Dragon Age The Veilguard Criticism Thread (formerly Skepticism Thread) [Spoilers]

Part of the problem with Solas in Trespasser is that if you ask him "Why does this world have to die?", his answer is essentially the writers saying "Spoilers". What he actually says is that if he says any more it may help the PC too much. Then why tell us anything at all? He claims this is so we can have a few years of peace before he destroys everything. What moron would think that? If he thought his world was about to be destroyed, wouldn't he do everything he could to stop it? Which is, in fact, one of the reasons he gives for taking the action he did in the past: he thought the Evanuris were going to destroy the world. His response brought about the downfall of the elven empire and radically changed the nature of the elves but the world as a whole did survive, as did the elves. So instead of risking bringing back the beings that created the problem in the first place, by wholesale destruction of the modern world and races, why not make a better future for his People with what is available to him now?

Solas for the duration of the main game came across as a thoughtful character who valued life and the right of other people to live their own in whatever way they choose, so long as it doesn't hurt others. When Cassandra asks he what he believes in he actually says this: "Cause and effect. Wisdom as its own reward, and the inherent right of all free willed people to exist." Which is his attitude in Trespasser seems so at variance with what he claimed. The only reason I could come up with for this attitude is that he thinks the world is doomed because of the Blight and he is hoping his action will cleanse the world and he is just trying to salvage what he can. The problem for me has always been, if that is the case, why not tell the Inquisitor? Then instead of simply finding a way to stop him, we also need to find a solution to the Blight that will render his action unnecessary. This could still be the plot, with the option at the end being to persuade him to stop and spare his life or simply kill him, knowing that your solution is going to work.
