The trailer lead the impression that the game is a hero shooter or multiplayer based game. It’s not going to be that even if it turns out pretty bad. Since they missed on that, they could’ve very well went wrong with the tone of the trailer. Dragon Age has always had a mixture of seriousness and dark elements with light and comedic ones, which is why the tonal shift towards the latter seems weird. Maybe people are indeed lying or hyping up the game in regards of the dark tones the game still showcased when they tried (some said Tevinter Nights seems to be an inspiration). I don’t think however that the people that are simply wanting to wait and see are lying to themselves. There’s no issue in waiting to se more to judge a game, especially when there’s discrepancy between the trailer and the screenshots. Tevinter Nights had Horror at Hormak, one of the best Lovecraftian horror stories in a Dark Fantasy Setting I’ve ever read. It’s perfectly creepy and it slowly escalates like Shadow over Innsmouth and Dunwich Horror while revealing unsettling clues about how the world really is but also not giving you full answers. That was what I thought the tone was going to be, an unsettling atmosphere of rising apprehension and suspicion especially with the rebel Elves and the looming Qunari. Then I saw this trailer and that killed it for me. I think, based on the trailer, that it is a fair concern. Even if the game will turn out differently, they made a wrong choice in releasing that trailer before showing how the game looks and feels.

My skeptics:
* hopefully the art style in the trailer won’t carry over into the game but I then ask why use what’s in the trailer if it won’t apply into the game? Cause if so that’s just shit marketing and I’ll say it. It’s to much of a cartoony look to it that it would turn me off from even wanting to play it if it’s going to look cartoony like mobile games. It’s way too painstakingly obvious they’ve tried coping that style off others and just why? * tone of everything just seems to lack seriousness and for dragon age that’s a no for me

Agreed, they should have held off on releasing the character trailer and instead released a gameplay trailer like how we got Crestwood for Inquisition. Instead they gave the wrong impression right off the bat and become a laughing stock across the internet. Have you seen the ratings and comments on YouTube?

It's unfortunate if the game will truly be different then the trailer, because the marketing team would've at least partially ruined the reveal.

Is it still turn-based tactics tho, or is it more like God of War, like in that leaked pre-alpha footage from years ago? That's my question.

It seems the gameplay will be more action oriented, but you are still able to pause and use the PC and companions' abilities through a combat wheel, or so they said in a IGN interview.

I agree with you; I really hope this "Shinobi" person is right, but I have no clue who he is. I have no evidence about any thoughts or feelings regarding previous installments of the series and it's cast/tone/etc.
I only can trust what I see and is presented by BioWare, and make guesses from that until I see *actual* lengthy game play in front of me.

Shinobi is a long time BioWare fan and leaker who has been pretty reliable for years. But he could be doing damage control too, so we’ll have to wait. ……… BioWare can you stop messing with the design of the Darkspawn?! They were at their best in Origins and Awakening!

To be fair, they shown the basically same concept a few years ago.
Some people in the Community Council mentioned some of the changes in art direction that happened across time weren't shown yesterday, so something might be different, possibly the darkspawn.
I wouldn't bet on it, though.

The Darkspawn were perfectly fine as Orc stand-ins, being compared to Orcs from LOTR is a compliment. But they turned Darkspawn from being a force of nature into Scooby Doo villains.

Yeah I just don't care about orcs in general. So Dragon Age Origins wasn't appealing to me initially. Only gave it a chance because I loved Mass Effect. At least the LOTR orcs and the DAO ones looked properly disgusting and scary.

I am not falling for "Shinobi" or other people who played the game prior to release. I fell for that line with "Starfield" from someone who played the game prior to release and trusted those insights.
The trailer clearly deviated from putting the culprit right in center, to its all about the "wonderfull diverse team" of crimefighters. The old Bioware has always represented a "diverse" cast in a well put together way, but this reeks of "modern audiences messaging" crammed down your throat. It has nothing to do with diversity and tollerance, that is the sad part.
I am sick and tired by upholding that attitude with my hard earned cash! No gameplay or other insights from people will convince me otherwise. When the game is out for a while I will youtube it and go from there. I have been burnt too many times and did it to myself with the hopefull maybe's and whatnot for excuses. Ultimately, that is what they are hoping for to manipulate you anyway's and pré-order!

I think waiting is completely fine. I don't see anyone debating that it's wrong to wait for the game to be released to see how it'll be. I do think it's also fair to point out that the trailer made a lot of people think this was going to be a hero shooter game, with the way the companions were introduced. Even in the case this game is going to be worst game even released by Bioware (which would be a tall order given Anthem, personally), it's not going to play out like that. Even in regards of tone, I don't see them going completely out of their way to not have any kind of dark, serious and/or horror-like elements that the franchise has always had, no matter how good or bad it'll end up being. Granted, they put themselves (or at least, the marketing team and the decison-makers did) in this situation by releasing a trailer that might present discrepancies with the actual game. In regards of the focus on culprit/antagonist vs team/protagonist, while the tone is heavily different from the trailer I'm mentioning, but The Fires Above reveal trailer for Inquisition also focused on the protagonist and some of the main characters of the game. I don't think the shift in focus on the party is necessarily a bad thing; given how concerned I was about the original version of the game, the fact that they seem to be confident enough on the work they put on the companions to change the name is something I'm happy about (providing they didn't fail in the portrayal of Solas and other main antagonists). It's the presentation and direction of the trailer that was very weird.

I fell for that line with "Starfield" from someone who played the game prior to release and trusted those insights. Off topic but what did they say about Starfield? With me it was my own fault hyping myself up like crazy. I honestly thought I had a good idea what to expect from Bethesda and didn't think the game could disappoint me the way it did. I didn't dream of a full blown space sim like other people. I didn't care for space battles at all. I just wanted my janky Bethesda RPG with cool exploration and awesome base building. I bought the game 2 months after release (played BG3 first) and all the negative feedback should have told me everything I needed to know but I didn't believe it was as bad as people said. It was, unfortunately. With DAV I will definitely wait for player feedback and unfiltered gameplay videos because I have the same suspicions as you, could be another Andromeda situation in terms of writing. No doubt the game will LOOK good. But I won't let that fool me. I won't let all the awesome sounding features fool me. Everything I read about Starfield sounded amazing before release. Marketing is just marketing. What you actually get could be anything. I have no reason to trust BioWare anymore. So I don't. I also lost all faith in Bethesda. What sucks the most is that I'm the kind of person who needs to know how a story ends, even if it's utter garbage. So I feel obligated to play DAV at some point even if reception is bad. That or watch a no commentary PT, but if I'm going to spend so much time watching the game I might as well buy a cheap key a year later and play it myself. Yes, it's dumb. But once I'm invested in something I can't judge let it go. Ugh.

"Off topic but what did they say about Starfield?"
Not that is was stellar, but that the critique spoken about prior release was overblown and over the top. Story and gameplay where fun. Played that debacle for 20 hours and stopped out of utter boredom. My expectations weren't high, I just wanted Skyrim in space.

Keep financially feeding the downfall of our society, in this case "creativity thru art" is what is bothering me. Western society is falling apart, literally. Won't be long it will not be parts falling of Boeing, but the whole damn plane!

...What sucks the most is that I'm the kind of person who needs to know how a story ends, even if it's utter garbage. Ugh.
I am the same, so I'll wait to see the gameplay trailer later this morning, then the actual launch and its independent reviews and then, if i still have an urge to play, I'll go sail on the high seas and see what I can find...
