I think the lighting have something to do with that shot. Harding should look like this in the gameplay they're going to show in a few minutes.

Well after the gameplay preview . . . I hate it.
The game and characters looks visually fantastic. Art style is fine.
But combat and story/dialogue is terrible.
COMBAT: Looks like a combination of Mass Effect Andromeda and Inquisition. Meh. Loss of control of companions is disappointing and they appeared to do almost no damage. Also had silly stuff like Harding spending most of the fights in melee range of enemies while using a bow. 🙄 Enemies just pop in and stand there, not a single structured battle environment or layout with positioning or obstacles/cover etc.
Being able to swap weapon sets and abilities is kind of like the Adromeda 'profiles' thing so that should let us have more abilities to use but I don't think that makes up for the loss of companion control. And everything is way too flashy/jumpy. Just moving away from the more tactical combat I prefer.
Story/Writing: Don't like that the game opens with Solas' ritual . . . it feels like a copy of the Inquisition opening . . . but with much worse writing.
Solas says he has a plan for minimizing the damage from removing the Veil . . . and of course we bungle into things and mess it up causing the old gods to be released. We basically screw things up and turn a controlled process into a mess.
There wasn't any dialogue that was memorable, and I didn't like forced auto-dialogue that made Rook into a do-gooder 'we have to help random citizen'?!? Seriously, can we just not stop to help everyone and instead focus on the main goal?

While I'm still not convinced I have to say this gameplay reveal was vastly superior to the trailer. Not that it took a lot but at least I don't hate it.
The characters don't look cartoonish thankfully. Far too many cutscenes and it doesn't look like we have a lot of free will.
It felt, story wise, copied from the beginning of DAI and ME3. They plunge us into the action, in media res, which I'm not a fan of.
I'm happy about the double-wielding and the changing weapon while in combat. That action wheel looked like the one on Greedfall, not a fan of that either. And they didn't show if and how we can control companions. Which makes me think it'll be pretty similar to DAI and I'll find myself killing my own party just to fight in peace.
Bianca got destroyed and I'll be forever thankful for that. Seeing that pretty much made my day.
After the reveal trailer I said I'd be working for Solas if this was the game but now it looks we'd actually have to work with him anyway just because we made a mess of his ritual and probably caused something worse. Meh.
Hated all the pretty colors in combat. Don't like the combat. Dislike the stupid convos like "going to topple that statue is suicide!" and then hack hack push push and it's done.
I'm still ambivalent. I'll probably play it because I hate leaving things unfinished. Prob not on release.

Now I understand why the title was changed from Dreadwolf to Veilguard because Solas is portrayed as a chump.
Combat and Dialogue is Andromeda tier, art style is still distracting but it looks more like Inquisition, and the demons look bad. I really love the searchlight and "Halt!" very WW2 except this is suppose to be a Dark Fantasy.
So overall, much better than the previous trailer.

The reveal didn't show anything I didn't already know. It was obvious they were playing it very safe, making sure they stayed away from the sarcastic middle dialogue option. Combat looked like Hogwarts legacy and inquisition had a baby that threw up every color of the rainbow on my screen. And it seems we will be playing another one note character, that no matter which option of dialogue we pick they will always strive to do the good thing. BG3 has spoiled me. The fact I didn't have to be the good guy was a nice change. Still I don't think this game is for me.

Just watched the gameplay reveal. Here are my stream-of-consciousness thoughts: - Varric with a beard will never NOT be weird. - Shadow Dragons? If that's supposed to be a gang, the name is cringe af. Dragons don't work in the shadows. The Antivan Crows worked as a name because crows are everywhere, scavenging as opportunities arise but otherwise unnoticed. - combat looks awful. Not tactics-based, which is fine, not a must-have for me, but it looks clunky with annoying auto-lock-on. Skyrim, Kingdoms of Amalur, God of War and Horizon Zero Dawn were all WAY better. - tactics or not, no party control = BioWare f--ked up. BADLY - Demon design is fine. A bit stylized, but clearly the same creatures from the rest of the franchise - Reminds me of the opening of DAI. Kinda lame that they just copied the previous game - right down to a pride demon as the tutorial boss - pride demon didn't use a whip once - music sounds generic. DAI had a great score, so maybe merely average is unsatisfactory - whoever played the game for this video sucks at the combat. or the combat sucks - surprised Solas has the same VA. He sounds different.
Verdict: Meh.

Maybe I'm too slow, but would someone care to explain which part of the trailer makes it "look like Fornite" and "not like Dragon Age"? I mean actually break it down. All I saw was a simple showcase of the characters, a bit of fighting to tell us what their abilities are and... that was it. Perhaps what is freaking people out is simply aesthetics? Did the cinematic look too bright and flashy? Or was it the character designs?/ Regardless, I would rather judge the game based on its content than the way it was presented. All but most importantly the tone is not there. Compare this trailer with Lead them or Fall. The aesthetics and particle effects are annoying but not completely distracting to the somber tone: Yeah, I can agree that the trailer was kinda cheesy and lacked the seriousness you're talking about. I also didn't love that sports commercial kinda music at the end. However... I maintain what I said before. This video doesn't feed us any information that could be enough to draw conclusions aboht the actual content. It was just a name roll for the companions that will be in our party. All we've learned is that the current team is terrible at making trailers. Oh, and that we got GRIFFONS. The griffons are f*cking back. It is funny that people are talking more about the trailer being too silly. Lore wise, this is absolutely huge.

Apparently the Shadow Dragons are supposed to be some anti-slavery group operating in opposition to the Venatori.
It’s a pretty stupid name. It sounds like an organization of evil ninjas in a bad 80s action movie.

This is going to sound wild, it's going to sound extreme, out there, utterly on the edge, but I'm gonna say it anyway....
I'm going to wait until I learn more about the game in it's entirety, rather than making a snap "GraaaawRRR IT'S THE SUXXX I HATE IT WITH THE POWER OF A THOUSAND SUNS EVERYTHING IS GARBAGE BIOWARE FAILED WORST GAME EVER!!!!!! RAWWWRRR!" judgement from a short gameplay reveal demonstrating a truncated version the game's intro.
We're there some signs that I might not like some of the new mechanics? Sure there were. Not being able to control party members is a bit of a slap in the face, combat seems a bit overly-flashy, but overall I enjoyed the demo, I enjoyed the visuals, and characters and dialogue felt fine to me.
So there.

...What sucks the most is that I'm the kind of person who needs to know how a story ends, even if it's utter garbage. So I feel obligated to play DAV at some point even if reception is bad. That or watch a no commentary PT, but if I'm going to spend so much time watching the game I might as well buy a cheap key a year later and play it myself. Yes, it's dumb. But once I'm invested in something I can't judge let it go. Ugh.
I am the same, so I'll wait to see the gameplay trailer later this morning, then the actual launch and its independent reviews and then, if i still have an urge to play, I'll go sail on the high seas and see what I can find...
I admit I never bought Andromeda because I didn't want to give BioWare money for THAT so I acquired it a different way... Only time I ever did that. And I was glad in the end I didn't spend any money on it. Anthem bored me in the demo already so that's the only BioWare game I never played. As a standalone MP game I did not feel compelled to experience what little story there was. With a series it's different.

I do have a more mixed response to the gameplay and want to see more of the game before making a full judgement, but I think it's quite possible and completely fair to decide to not buy the game with this gameplay.
For example, I prefer a different kind of gameplay but I'm open with the direction they're going forward (which some pretty big cons, however, in regards of the number of abilities we can use), but if some people didn't want or enjoy this kind of combat, it can very well be a dealbreaker.
It's fine to be a big fan of the franchise (or some of its games) and love what they saw. It's also fine to be a big fan of the franchise (or some of its games) and be completely turn off by it.

I actually posted a load of hardcore skepticism in the old Dreadwolf skepticism thread back in the days when I still thought that the game was going to be a multiplayer-only looter shooter with no single player campaign and a load of loot boxes and microtransactions. That fact alone - the fact that it clearly isn't, is enough for me to curb at least some of my skepticism, however I'm sure I'll have plenty more as the weeks go by leading to release. For one thing we don't know how most of the underlying game mechanics work yet. Will there be attribute points? Skills as well as talents? What are the talents like? As dull as Inquisition, or better? Can we outfit our companions? Will the PC version have more than eight named spells available? How does healing work?

I’m pretty indifferent to the gameplay reveal myself. It showed nothing new 🤷♀️ and it looks exactly like inquisition so to me it’s just a continuation more so than a new game. Combat is about all that was shown and it was some pretty bland combat that I expected since biowares never tried to elevate themselves on better combat. I’m sure I can enjoy the game overall but the combat gameplay isn’t something that hyped me up. Especially since I’m expecting it to be another open world game like inquisition and I very much doubt biowares learned how to have an engaging open world yet. Most games fail at that unfortunately.
I need to see more into the story, the world interactions and extra features before I’m interested. Till then I imagine I’ll just get this at a discount at some point down the road but it’s not wowing me as a day one buy or even BioWare being “back” and making an actual decent game. It’s cool for those who are somehow excited by this but my standards are just higher.

First we weren’t supposed to judge the game alone, now we’re not supposed to judge based on 20 minutes of gameplay. What’s next? “You can’t judge the game until you’ve played it to completion, because it gets good 40 hours in”? Sorry but that is not unreasonable. How many games can be properly judged in a 20 minutes video of non-interactive gameplay? You can judge the video for sure, but the entire game which is likely to be at least 80 hours of gameplay at a bare minimum? That's a stretch.

I didn't buy DA2 because I didn't like the changes to DAO and I didn't buy DAI because the combat sucked, the companions were unappealing and decisions from DAO were not honoured. At the moment I'm also leaning towards not buying DAV

It’s cool for those who are somehow excited by this but my standards are just higher. This right here. After having played 800+ hours of BG3, this trailer hasn't done anything for me. The simple fact that there is auto-dialogue that have your player wanting to save a random NPC is a big enough red flag for me to realize I won't be able to play a character the way I want. Given that BW is backed by EA, this game is considered a AAA game. So I am expecting a game on par to one of the greatest RPGs that have came out recently. If you can't even give me the option to play a character the way I want, there is already a problem.

I think the comparison with BG3, among other things, isn't fair. One protagonist being voiced and the other being silent place the two games on a different side of the spectrum in this regard. ...that said, the autodialogue in the opening was too much. Maybe it was due to the cut in the video and we'd get far more dialogue options, but it was eerily reminiscent of ME3 in the use of that 'feature'.
