Finished Clone Wars.....Very Tempted to watch The Bad Batch as I have not seen that yet. But I have a soft spot for REBELS, so I think I will watch that again before I hit The Bad Batch. I like Bad Batch. It’s nowhere near on the level of Clone Wars, at least not yet, but I have a particular soft spot for the clones and the progression of the empire.

Cdrama, Cold Case, Crime
Story of a veteran border officer who decided to take a breather after losing a close friend, a narcotics officer, during a raid on a drug manufacturing camp. Her request to be assigned to the Archives Department was granted. There, she worked on a cold case with three junior officers.
In ep 9, for the second case, the sister-in-law of one of the junior officers was murdered. The junior officer becomes a suspect as her relationship with the sister-in-law isn't good.
I'm finding the discussion rather funny and illogical. The sister-in-law lived on the seventh floor of a residential building. The discussion revolves around the video evidence taken from the lift camera; the junior officer and a man who each visited the victim respectively. Nothing is said of stairs. They keep harping on the lift video.
So I would presume if a fire breaks out on the seventh floor and the lift is not working, everyone on that floor dies because there're no stairs. 🤣🤣🤣 Really, would anyone want to live in that building?

Finished Cold Case. Except for silly lapses which is clearly to drag the eps, the drama isn't bad.
Now watching Cdrama, Dr Qin, Crime, Forensics
This drama is akin to CSI except that the team is smaller. Just the head forensic examiner, the junior and the police officer. The first case is good. Second case is also good. The banter among the three is also good and funny with their individual personalities shining through.

Kdrama, Witch's Diner, fantasy. 10 eps.
Story of a witch, Hee Rah, running a special restaurant in which she grants patrons their vengeance, for a price. The price varies with each patron.
One day she closes down her diner and went to a new restaurant run by Jin. Jin and her mom had bought the restaurant from the former owner at a hefty price but it came with the famous chef the restaurant was known for. However, they were cheated by the former owner.
Hee Rah asked what vengeance Jin sought. In return, Jin would sign over the restaurant to her and work for her. Jin named her vengeance and ate the meal the Hee Rah prepared. The next day, the former restaurant owner died of a heart attack.
Jin was shocked as she wasn't thinking of killing the former restaurant owner, only that she should lose her ill gotten gains.
10 eps is short but the story is well paced and doesn't drag. All the characters are interesting. Jin develops further as she learned more about Hee Rah and at the end, she surprises Hee Rah with her second wish.

So far I'm really enjoying re-watching REBELS. I was really tempted to watch Hawkeye but I want to wait for a few more episodes to be posted.
Tonight and to6 I am going to watch Jungle Cruise and then Red Notice. My parents have seen both those movies and said they are well worth watching, so I have some catching up to do.

King's Affection, ep 14
I'm really annoyed with the writers for this period piece. I'm thinking that because it's based on a comic, the original creators had some say in the drama script and direction. I'll call it romantic fluffy fanfiction because it's exactly that!!!
It takes the 14th episode to show Yi Hwi has some planning, gumption and courage to work against Lord Sangheon. Omg, whatever was she doing when she was old enough to grasp the political situation of the royal court? Nothing, apparently. She makes no plan for her safe exit from her position, gain her freedom, live her own life which is what she wants more than anything in the world.
Too much of the earlier eps is taken up with silly fluffy romantic encounters. Given the situation Yi Hwi is in, no consideration is given to tact, to her situation, to her circumstance. Their romance encounters is always conducted in a risky and dangerous manner with no thought given to consequences if they were found out.
There is little respect and thought given to character realism. It's more focused on stupid fluffy stuff. The potential of this story and its characters is completely wasted.
Nevertheless, the period drama has some good parts. The cast is excellent, despite the dismal story direction.
The Red Sleeve, ep 6
This period piece is also in the romance genre as King's Affections. However, the writers approached it in a practical manner, the story being an original creation of theirs so they'll have more control in its direction and script.
It's more focused on how Yi San has to tolerate the temper of his grandfather, King Yeongjo, outmaneuver the plots of his political enemies, fight and plan to secure his position as the Crown Prince.
Court Lady Seong is the lowest court maid in his palace. Using her wit, intelligence and courage, she helps Yi San to solve his problems.
Their romance is conducted in a tactful considerate manner, with each party aware of the consequences. Yi San especially since if Yeongjo were to find fault with him, he faces the threat of dethronement.

Kdrama, Nobody Knows, Crime
Story of a police officer, Young-jin, whose classmate and close friend was murdered by the stigmata serial killer. On the day her friend was murdered, she failed to pick up her call as her phone was charging and she wasn't in the mood to receive any calls. When she realised later her friend was desperately trying to contact her for help, she blamed herself for the death.
The killer took her friend's phone and later made a call to Young-jin, telling her her friend was the last and eighth victim. Young-jin was originally his target but he realised she didn't fit his criteria. Frightened and angered, Young-jin told him she would hunt him down. Later, she lied to the detective in charge of the cases that the killer had told her he would keep killing in an effort to keep the case on-going.
19 years later, Young-jin is a high level police detective in charge of the task force in investigating murders. Though there are no more stigmata murders, she keeps all the information of the stigmata killer at her home, endlessly pursuing whatever lead there is now that forensics is more advance. Following a clue, she discovers that a pastor had given an angel doll with six wings to the younger sister of her murdered friend.
She pursues the pastor to his present location and finds a bound fresh body with similar stigmata wounds waiting for her. She realises the killer has been keeping track of her when she sees her detective card on the table. Following the blood trail, she finds the pastor waiting for her at the roof top. The murder weapon on the floor and his hands still bloody.
Is he the killer though? After 19 years, did she finally find him?

Kdrama, Nobody Knows, Crime Now on ep 13. I'm trying to tie all the clues together but since this is a 32 eps crime drama, I'm not getting the whole picture yet. Eun-ho is Young-jin's neighbour, one floor below. When she moves in to her new apt, he was still a child. That day she interrupted the domestic abuse Eun-ho's mother was undergoing and arrested the abusive boyfriend. Since then, Young-jin is the one he bonds with and she is as near to a mother to him than his own mother. When he inexplicably jumps from the tenth floor of a hotel, she blames herself for failing to perceive he was trying to tell her something when he suddenly visits her twice. As she unravels his movements on that fateful day and his doings, she finds disturbing clues that somehow, his apparent suicide attempt and the stigmata serial killer case are linked. This cop drama is pretty good. It's tightly paced. The focus is not just on the investigations but also on the relationships between the characters. Young-jin is a complex character. She is stubborn and she keeps a tight control on her emotions, not letting it affect her judgement in any way. She is unrelenting and sees to it that every task she starts, she finishes. She is a dedicated police inspector who presents a cool professional demeanor that some mistake for a cold exterior. She's direct and doesn't waste time during conversations and has no time to spare for emotional tantrums and anger other people throw at her but she empathizes when it is needed. She's my kind of cop. A hound dog. A hunting dog that pursues its prey. I prefer this kind of crime drama, no fluffy nonsensical stuff. Edit. Her superior is funny. He's frustrated with her tenacity because she's always pushing against the limits set by the higher ups and yet he knows she can get the job done. He's always venting his annoyance every time he hears what she wants to do but in the end he always tells the team to follow Young-jin's plan and orders.

Finished Kdrama, Nobody Knows, Crime A great ride from beginning to end. *applause* Great writing and character development. Young-jin achieved her goal after 19 years. She finally finds the one who killed her friend and his reason for choosing her originally as the victim and then changing his mind. The last ep has a nice epilogue. Young-jin finally closes the door of the long dark and takes a long vacation. I like that at the end, the colour of her clothing changed to signify her turning, the door to the second room that is always closed in her home is now open and repurpose. There is light, sunshine, warmth, friendships and freedom. Taking heart what her mentor told her, she returns to her position as the head of the special crime squad. I'm hoping there would be a season 2 with the same actress in the main role with all the rest of the cast reprising their roles. It would be interesting to see the three boys again and how much they would have developed in the years that followed. Young-jin and Eun-ho will always have that mother-son / friends bond, tested and strengthen by their experience. Well I can hope for a season 2.
Giving up on King's Affections Apparently in the preview for the next ep, the uncle suddenly shows up, kills commander Yoon, waylay Yi Hwi and exposes her true identity. This would have been acceptable if his supposed suicide was shown in a reasonable manner. However in ep 11, when the corpse was discovered, it's not burnt, the head and face are not marred. Yet there seemed to be no attempt to identify the corpse properly other than Prince Wonsan waving a piece of paper purporting to be the uncle's suicide note and telling everyone the uncle committed suicide. The whole process of identification by royal family members and funeral disappeared in favour of showing scholar protests against Yi Hwi and her dethronement. So now the uncle dances out of nowhere, tells Wonsan to work with him and prepares to expose Yi Hwi. This drama is for romance fanatics because almost 30% of each 40 minute ep is taken up to show lovey dovey stuff. What's left of the serious stuff, like plot and character development are not shown properly. Summarized I would say; A did this, B did that, A say this, B say that, have some humour, now let's go back to lovey dovey, isn't that what you're watching this drama for? 🤣🤣🤣 I'm not wasting my time watching this period drama any more. It has an excellent cast. Too bad the writing s****.

Kdrama, Diary of a Prosecutor It starts of with two guys sitting by the seaside, waiting for a bite on their fishing lines. While waiting they exchanged poetic verses. All of a sudden, an alarm wailed and up on the ridge are numerous police officers. His friend didn't want to be caught so he jumped into the sea and swam 2.8 km back to the mainland. Meanwhile, the other guy and a bunch of other anglers were brought to the police station for illegally fishing, of all things, at a military base. After giving his ID, the second guy thought he could leave but unfortunately for him a senior officer walking in recognised him and promptly gave him prestige service by sending him off in style to the prosecutor office, in a police car. With sirens wailing. To cap it all, his colleagues going out for lunch saw his "grand" arrival. His friend turned out to be the Chief of the prosecutor branch. The voice over is pretty droll and hilarious.

Kdrama, Mine.
Story of high society and of two strong ambitious women trying to find their "mine".
I'm finding Kim Seo-hyung a fascinating actress. She has been acting for 20 years but she's only finding the main spotlight in recent years, with her first main role in Nobody Knows.
She could be typecast into playing secondary bad / evil characters but her recent two roles saw her playing strong remote women. One a police inspector, the second, the wife of a rich man in Mine who has no love for her husband and spends her time managing art galleries and the dysfunctional family she married into. Additionally, she hides a secret she doesn't want anyone to find out.
It's funny the name of the wife is almost the same as the actress's own name.

Kdrama Mine, ep 10
Pace is stepping up. Three women are now joined in battle against the thorn in the family. Not born of the father yet Ji-yong stands to inherit everything.
But Hi-soo, his wife, is determine to make him lose everything and she does it by gaining custody of the son. Even though she isn't his mother, she raised him since he was 18 months old and considers him her son. After learning of all the lies and deceit Ji-yong played on her, she doesn't want to have anything to do with him.
Seo-hyun as the linchpin of the family doesn't want to see it fall apart because of Ji-yong. A meeting with her old love woke her to buried emotions and she realised she has to help her stepson instead of just following the dictates of her father-in-law who wants a business marriage for the grandson. At the same time, she doesn't want Ji-yong to gain control of the family business.
Hwe-jin wants her son back. Like Hi-soo, Ji-yong has told her a bunch of lies to keep the son. She vows to bring him down. Reaching an understanding with Hi-soo and Seo-hyun, she works with them to outmanuever Ji-yong.
The clashes between Seo-hyun and ji-yong is essentially the highlight of the drama once Seo-hyun realises the problem Ji-yong poses. It's a fight to bring the other down and she stands on equal footing with him. Neither are scions of the Han family. They're outsiders. Seo-hyun is the eldest and she wields a lot of influence and respect with the company's essential cogs. She's highly respected even with the servants at the Han residence as she doesn't treat them like slaves. Cool headed, intelligent and astute, she succeeds in one of her plans against Ji-yong.

Watched Jungle Cruise on Thursday and thoroughly enjoyed it. Really quite a good movie. Fun, funny, good acting, interesting story...Just a good movie. And if they haven't already, I can totally see Disney making a themepark ride out of the river cruise scenes especially the one at the beginning with the tourists. All those one-liners were funny as hell

Finished Mine, Kdrama. I was left guessing as to who did the deed. My guess didn't even land right. But everything ends well. Seo-yun becomes the Chairwoman of the company. Hi-soo picked up her acting again and she has sole custody of her son. The family is set to rights. Seo-hyun's husband is the most surprising one of all. I didn't expect his response / reaction when Seo-hyun confessed her secret to him. My respect for him rose when he accepted it and is willing to support her. I can see she revises her opinion of him from this and their relationship becomes more amiable and understanding.

Kdrama, The Red Sleeve, ep 8
The contrast of this drama with King's Affections is great. The growing affection between the two main characters of Red Sleeve is written with much thought given to each individual's circumstances and their personal goals. They're aware of their environment and of the people around them. They behave with decorum and restraint even when they're alone.
Yi San's primary goal is to retain his status as Crown Prince and he never loses sight of it. He is cautious not to rouse his grandfather's, King Yeongjo, attention and ire but will intervene with care for those who work for him when it is needed. He cares for Lady Seong and is considerate of her status and reputation.
Lady Seong has no interest to be the prince's concubine despite being pressed by the head court lady. Her goal is to serve the crown prince, the future king, loyally and remain a simple court lady as she is aware of the dangers of court intrigue. She keeps this in mind even as her relationship with Yi San deepens and always put the safety of his person foremost.
Both main characters are always aware and protective of each other. Hence, their behaviour and comportment is always careful.
Contrast this with the two main characters for King's Affections. Although they're aware and protective of each other, they never consider the environment and the people around them. Their meetings in public is always risky, dangerous and blatantly affectionate.
Yi Hwi risks having her identity reveal ever since she took her dead brother's place. I've never been able to define her intentions other than she doesn't want to continue the impersonation but right up till ep 16 (drama is 20 eps total), she apparently has no plans to get herself out of her horrible situation. She did nothing the moment she reached maturity and should have been making plans for a safe exit. She didn't restraint herself when her affection for Ji-un grew and apparently didn't seem to care anyone could see her being affectionate with him. After living for 10 years with her life at risk if she's discovered, she apparently throw it all to the winds just to spend time with Ji-un.
Ji-un is the worst romance partner I've ever seen. He doesn't behave with care and forethought with Yi Hwi. He's an airhead with passion riding saddle. Is he a good partner? No. He puts Yi Hwi in danger every time he moons around and after her. He spared no thought to what would happen if they were seen. He reacts inadequately when she's in danger and cannot ensure her safety because he never plans ahead. He has no plans, period.
Badly written romance story with unbelievable characters.

Cdrama, Psychologist
Presently on ep 7 but this is a pretty good drama about psychology. It goes into detail on how psychologists do their jobs, why they need a specific kind of environment.
The female lead is good. Her first case deals with a teenager who is emotionally troubled and often creates problems. After encountering the parents, she deduced they're the root cause of why the girl persists in harming herself and telling lies.
For the second case, it deals with a teenager who gets emotionally involved with people she has never met. These people tend to be movie stars, radio DJs, etc. She writes emails to them and when they fail to respond, she becomes depressed. It gets to the point where she acts on her anger and threatens other people.
The other focus is on the FL's relationship with her girlfriend and flat-mate. They're friends period. They're there for each other whenever trouble lands on the other.
Secondary plot is the new neighbour who moves in next door and is very interested in the FL and her teacher.

Kdrama, Rain and Shine Story of how two survivors of a collapsed shopping mall deal with their grief, the memories, in the years after. Kang-doo's dream of becoming a professional soccer player came to naught when a metal rod went through his leg during the mall collapse. His father who was one of the construction workers for the new mall died in the accident. However, the company hedged on compensation and didn't pay any to the family, leaving Kang-doo to struggle in the years that follow, putting everything he earned toward his sister's education to be a doctor. He has PTSD and health problems. Mun-soo was the eldest of two sisters. Her younger sister was already working as a model at eight. That fateful day, she accompanied her sister to the mall. Trapped with Kang-doo in the collapsed mall, she suffered a head injury when she was brought out and lose her memories of that period when she was trapped. She became an architect. Her parents failed to come to terms with the younger sister's death and each blamed the other for failing their youngest daughter. However, the mother persistently fails to let go, putting a lot of burden on Mun-soo, as she drinks daily and quarrels with people around her to vent her grief. Because her incessant rages, the husband moves out a few years later and opens his own restaurant, desiring a divorce in order to move on. I keep thinking Won Jin-ah, the actress who played Mun-soo is Park Joo-min, her younger version. The resemblance is there. Their voices also has that low timbre. I think they're related.

Saw the last episode of Apple's Invasion today. Well, I want my time spent on it back. Some people say that its slow and boring but I don't mind slow movies. Others didn't like characters but I thought that acting was quite good actually. Many complain that there isn't much action in it but I get that this TV show is showing us how ordinary people would see such invasion. What killed it for me is a completely incoherent story: the show consists of several story arks depicting lives of several different groups of people across the globe and these story arks have no connection to one another AT ALL; several subplots aren't resolved or resolved in an underwhelming way; tonal dissonance between arks - one shows deserted cities and breakdown of society, the other barely acknowledges that invasion is even happening. Last episode has a hook for season two but I say no thanks.

Watching Mine, Kdrama again because it's well written and has an excellent cast. I particularly enjoyed Seo-hyun's mother-in-law's hysterical tantrums and angry bouts. Although such occasions are extremely trying for Seo-hyun and Hi-soo, she's funny. Her own daughter takes after her; she has little control over her temper. I can't imagine how the husband / father tolerate these two. Her son, Jin-ho who's Seo-hyun's husband is pretty much very lacking. He wants to inherit the company but he knows he doesn't have the acumen. Still, he knows that as the eldest, he has the responsibility to manage it. Seo-hyun tolerates his womanizing because she knows he's lonely and needs an outlet. Both wife and husband know they don't love each other. She cleans up his affairs after. She doesn't like his drinking however and tells him so. He's intimidated by Seo-hyun because she's dignified, intelligent, stylish and elegant. He's the complete opposite of her. He calls her the control tower of the family. which is true anyway. She oversees the staff serving the family, the daily requirements and also manages her own art galleries. She knows what goes on among the servants and the family. One day he gathers up the courage and asks her if they couldn't be friends since he's lonely. She isn't interested. She tolerates his idiosyncrasies; he spends most of his time scratching cards to hit the jackpot. He does try to improve his act / himself since he wants her approval / gain her respect. I like that he surprises her with his response when she finally tells him her secret. He accepts what she tells him, says they have to stay married and that he isn't divorcing her. I should think he earns her regard / respect with that answer. He's basically saying he doesn't mind, that he understands and offers his protection and support. I saw the clip when they were filming that scene at the restaurant. Kim Seo-hyung burst into laughter when Park Hyuk-kwon reacted by saying softly; what? to the revelation. She said in an interview later that she was expecting a shock horrified response, not a startled mild "what?" and a bewildered look from Hyuk-kwon. I think how he acted at that moment is right. The character he played, Jin-ho, is pretty laid-back and is often oblivious to the situations sprouting within the family unless it has something to do with him.

Chinese period drama, Sword, Snow Stride, Adapted from the novel Snowy Path of the Heroic Blade. Presently on third ep. The beginning reminds me of the old Hong Kong Wuxia movies / dramas. Mysterious highly skilled swordsman / swordswoman, Nan Gong Pu She, meets protag, Feng Nian, while he's returning home. She offers protection when she learns the protag is the prince of Northern Liang. In return, she wants to peruse the martial books in the palace library. When he asks her why, she says she wishes to advance her skills. However, the way she takes out his pursuers indicates she's highly skilled. He doesn't know in what way she can improve further from the books in the library but agrees to the deal. At the moment, Nan Gong Pu She's intentions are unknown. She speaks only when necessary and disincline to socialise. Feng Nian as it turns out is highly intelligent. However he doesn't know any martial arts. He figures out that the one who sent the assassins after him is within the court of the Liang Kingdom. Hence, he strikes another bargain with Nan Gong Pu She; she can spend as much time in the library if she protects him for two days. She accepts. From what I've seen so far, the cast is good. The script is good. Costumes are practical, traditional. No nonsensical modern stuff. Music and introduction is more traditional, poetic and to the point. Camera work is also good. All the signs of a good production akin to the golden age of the wuxia movies / dramas. Could be too early to hope it continues to hold up but I'm crossing my fingers. The actress who acts as Nan Gong Pu She reminds me of an actress who's well known for cross-dressing roles in the 80s to 90s. In this drama, it's more of her bearing that strikes the resemblance.
Oh this is interesting. Plans within plans. The second assassination attempt. Success is not the goal. Disrupt faith and loyalty among the officers and troops perhaps?

So I have the boxed set of the "Ultimate Star Wars Soundtrack Collection" A beautifully packaged boxset of all the music from the six films that tell the Skywalker Saga. 11 CDs + 1 DVD totally nearly 12 hours of the best music for any movie that has ever been recorded.
The DVD includes a visual/musical narration of sorts by Ian McDairmid (sp) that shows clips of the six movies told through the music. It reminded me of another amazing experience, "STAR WARS: In Concert" as hosted by Anthony Daniels.
At somepoint today I am going to re-watch that DVD.
