So I finally sat down and had time to start The EXPANSE Season 6 this afternoon. Sat down on the couch in the Livingroom with a cup of Earl Grey ( a touch of honey) and some of my mom's homemade cookies like shortbread and ginger snaps.
Will finish the Pilot ep. tonight.

Didn't get to finish the Expanse.....But I did watch one of my favourite Christmas movies: (The original) "Miracle on 34th Street" with the incomparable Maureen O'Hara, John Payne, Edmond Gwenn and Ms Natalie Wood (who was adorable as a little girl....equally stunning as a young woman, taken too soon from us).
I'll always remember her as 8 year old little Susan Walker.
My second favourite Christmas movie is "It's a Wonderful Life" (Jimmy Stewart and Donna Reed). These are two I have to watch every Christmas holiday. And then there's Die Hard 1 and 2, my other family favourites.

Sword, Snow, Stride
I'm not disappointed. Ep 7.
Feng Nian faces a difficult decision. As the eldest son, he is heir to the throne. However, he has a bad reputation as a womanizer, useless lay-about, low intelligence. No one except those in the inner court / household know that the over 20 women he supposedly keeps are those he rescued and helped, that he is an upright young man and vastly intelligent. Hence, under this wrong impression, the majority of the troops support his younger brother, Long Xiang, who's strong in martial arts and is looked upon as the more viable heir.
Long Xiang loves Feng Nian and wouldn't think of going against him. However, the father knows the younger son is ingenuous and would be easily made use by ambitious men. He presents the problem to Feng Nian and offers two choices. He could kill the officer, Ning E Mei, who leads the troops and support Long Xiang or he could send his younger brother away to separate him from the troops.
Since E Mei is a loyal officer and he loves his younger brother, Feng Nian refuses to do anything to either of them. On the day of his capping ceremony (acknowledgement that a boy has reached adulthood), his father tells him he has sent Long Xiang to Wudang. There, the masters will cripple Long Xiang, removing his ability to fight and rendering him an ordinary person. Since Feng Nian will not make a choice, he has come up with that third option.
Feng Nian is horrified and will not stand for it. He prepares to set off to rescue his brother and asks Nangong Pu She to go with him. She refuses, pointing out that she is technically under his father's employ. Her goal is to study the martial art books in the Liang library. If she goes against his father, she will not be able to attain her wish. However, she lends him one of her swords and points out another martial arts expert who is not in his father's employ and can go with him.
Before he sets off however, Feng Nian discovers his father, Wang Juan, has predicted his moves and places obstacles to obstruct.
This story is definitely very interesting. Wang Juan isn't a despot or evil. He is known for killing the entire Chao court, the Chao king, his queen and the daughter. However, it turns out he wasn't the king during the time of the war. He was only a commander. He could not go against royal orders but he saved the Chao princess and brought her into his household and ensured she's brought up well. The Chao king, queen and court committed suicide, he didn't kill them.
Wang Juan is merely looking to ensure his sons' safety and ensure the throne is passed into proper hands. Hence, he constantly plans to put many problems and obstacles in Feng Nian's way as he grows up in order to train him. Whether he would really damage his younger son remains to be seen but I've the feeling he wouldn't. He could easily imprison, cripple and hide away his younger son if he wants an easy fast solution. He does not want to do that since he loves his sons. This is just another way to make / force Feng Nian resolve the issue of the inheritance of the throne.

Cdrama, Taiwanese, Tears on Fire Story about firefighters. I find the judgement for a case rather peculiar. The fire department responded to a call. They arrived and saw an apt brightly lit that it looked like it was on fire. There was also a burning smell. The apartment manager insisted the firefighters break down the apt door when the tenant could not be reached. The team leader then ordered the door broke down. When they went in, they found the apt was not on fire. The brightness was caused by christmas lights strung across the windows. The tenant complained and insisted on compensation or he takes the fire department to the court. It all ends up in the lap of the team leader who has to compensate the tenant 80 thousand for the door damage. Huh???? What logic is this?? There's also another case in which an anxious man badgered the paramedics to send his mom to hospital. The paramedics were examining the woman and performing tests while the man kept badgering. One of the paramedics lost his patience and exchanged words with the man. His mom turned out to be fine. However, the man 👎 brought along the city councilor to complain to the captain of the fire department about the paramedic. Edit. No logic to the script. 🤣 Idiotic anxious mom worries over her son who has a scrape on his knee. Calls the ambulance and insist her son must be send to hospital. On the way, she insists the paramedic drives faster. She badgers and persists and finally the paramedic drives rashly, ending in an accident in which no one is hurt but the ambulance is trashed. There's SOP paramedics follow but this drama isn't. 🤣🤣🤣 I know such cases happen often in the old days. Nowadays, at least for where I live, calling for an ambulance and paramedics is strictly regulated and overseen. If the people / patient isn't in life risk when they called for the ambulance, they're the ones in trouble.

Lately I've been hooked on a number of fan-made STAR WARS short films. A few of them are really horribly cheesy and...just bad in every sense. But I have found quite a few that are quite well done given a smaller than shoestring budget and regular joe kinda people with no acting training. Just passionate fans writing stories and making movies in a genre and about a subject they love. And a few of them have a better story and far more character development than the entire Disney trilogy combined (though I doubt that is a very high bar to reach).
Anyways....Take a look-see.

Bit of secondhand info for anyone that liked Resident Alien.
Season 2 will be in two parts. First part is airing on Jan 26, 2022. Now less than a month away!
I don't know when the second part airs but IIRC they said spring time-ish.
***
For anyone that hasn't watched it and is wondering. It stars Alan Tudyk in a comedy role as an alien hiding on earth, as a doctor. It's light entertainment and Alan sells it. D'Arcy, played by Alice Wetterlund, is my personal fav. She clearly has reached fuck-it.

Cdrama, Go Go Squid
An ok drama so far. What brightens it is that I was surprised by the presence of veteran Hong Kong actor, Paul Chun. I saw him as far back in the 70s. I was wondering what happened to most of the Hong Kong actors after the 90s and spotted a few of them appearing in mainland Chinese dramas. I guess the rest went elsewhere or retired.

Finished Titans S3 night before last.
Crane/Scarecrow was quite the disappointment, but other than that, I liked it well enough to check out a fourth season (if one is coming).
I do wonder if the series will encounter the logic problem with these types of shows (and movies, come to that), where you find yourself wondering where the hell the heavy hitters are when shit hits the fan in a very public way. It wasn’t a problem when Bane took over Gotham in Nolan’s The Dark Knight Rises, because there were no other heroes in that world. But when a psychotic chemist takes over a major city and its police department, you could be forgiven for thinking that might illicit a response from…oh, I don’t know…Superman, given his clone offspring has been sighted there. Or Wonder Woman…given one of her Amazonian sisters died there.
Suspension of disbelief is pretty crucial when watching this kind of show, but some internal consistency would be good. I don’t actually want to see Superman (or Wonder Woman) in Titans. I also didn’t want the washed up loser of a Batman they’ve offered up, but we know they exist in the world and flying in to save the day unasked is kind of their deal. It would just be nice to have a believable reason why the big guns don’t come out to play when things get as real as they did.

Dick move sidelining Connor with Kryptonite dust. Also terrible writing. (Dick move... ) I liked Barbara, curious where they are going with the whole Oracle thing. "Lazarus pit of DOOM" to "tee-hee let's make it rain on everyone" felt odd. Can't really put my finger on why. Wish we'd gotten a bit more info on Starfires new powers. She seemed oddly disinterested in them for someone with a potentially whole new set of abilities. Jason seemed decidedly meek for someone on a drug that suppresses fear.
Batman, wtf they're doing in that regard? He's written like they were surprised they got the license. Or at least I am. I liked Hank, he grounded things. His character was nuanced, layered, and acted well. He was a seeming idiot, and basically was, but he also added a weird maturity to the show. Chronic pain, drug addiction, and relationship problems that stemmed from their addictive natures and their hero/personae addiction. Mental health issues that crop up in different ways. Their relationship was pretty fucked up, I liked that. FYI He left because he got a lead role, some Tom Clancy adaptation or something.
Also, Dove was easy on the eyes. She has... Blackfire's also a fine looking lady but death by Snu Snu isn't my thing. ...Lady really needs to ask Conner how many candles to put on his birthday cake though.

Also, Dove was easy on the eyes. She has... Blackfire's also a fine looking lady but death by Snu Snu isn't my thing. ...Lady really needs to ask Conner how many candles to put on his birthday cake though. Agree with pretty much all the criticisms (while still liking it overall). “Dick move” Also a dumb one. If you’re a master strategist (or supposed to be), maybe don’t leave your thermonuclear warhead on the bench when you’re taking sparkle sticks to a gunfight. Hank He never really worked for me, unfortunately, although I did like the trauma and the way it was presented. A life of fighting crime and the emotional loss it brings was presented believably. And he had a sweet burn on Dick at the end of season 2; H - “Its about time you showed up. It’s getting really ugly out here.” D - “You’re not going to make fun of my suit?” H (shit eating grin) - “I just did.” Unfortunately, moments like that were few and far between, but I did like the send off they gave him. He deserved better than going out like a chump in an explosion. Barbara Hopefully we get more of her and the how/why of Oracle (Larry Ellison intensifies). Her distaste for it is reminiscent of Lucius Fox and the mobile phone computer in The Dark Knight. More of that stuff, please. Also, kind of cool that the actress actually only has one leg. Starfire/Blackfire/Connor Yeah, it was weird. She lost fire powers and gained…something…and sort of just shrugged. Shame to be losing Blackfire, but with her, Starfire, Connor, Raven and now Gar becoming more useful, the team was looking seriously in need of a nerf.
Connor’s dark side showing through was nice. He’s not a thoughtless machine, but he has complexity.

So to my complete surprise....Yesterday my mom says to me "I feel like watching STAR WARS, not the CGI trilogy (that's what she refers to Ep 1-3 as) and not the new Disney ones with Daisy Ridley either....But the Original Trilogy. The BEST Trilogy. I'll sit and watch them with you." So I went upstairs and got my boxset of Blu-rays off my shelf and popped in A New Hope and later that evening we watched Empire Strikes Back...and tonight we watched Return of the Jedi. When the credits rolled on ROTJ she turned to me and said "Now those are just good movies. Each of one of them is so good and to me THEY are "STAR WARS" I haven't watched those movies in..... I don't know how many years. Sure, I see bits here and there because you watch them all the time...but me,personally, I can't remember when the last time was when I actually sat down and watched each of the three movies from start to finish. And I enjoyed every one of them." I happily agreed with my mom. Uh-huh. Yes, I did.

Kdrama, Sci Fi, The Silent Sea The story is set with the Earth facing severe drought and acute shortage of water. Water is rationed except for those in the medical and science divisions. Dr Song, an astrobiologist, was asked to go on a mission to the moon where a luna station was abandoned with all hands lost five years ago for a radiation leak. There, the team was to retrieve an item. When the government representatives and SAA were asked for more clarifications, none was given. Dr Song decided to go to find the truth behind her sister's death. Sh was a member of the moon station staff. Before she died, she had sent her an encrypted message that Song should retrieve Luna. I when the space shuttle got into trouble during insertion orbit around the moon. The pilots were yanking on the stick and yelling in panic as the shuttle careened onto the moon surface. Erm, are you guys sure you're veterans? Professional space pilots? Dr Song gave sensible and practical suggestion to the captain of the expedition after discovering a corpse. He ignored them and said they're there for one purpose only and nothing else. Next, everyone split into teams to try to retrieve said item. Nobody brought along their helmets or their oxygen packs. Apparently, they think it's safe after restoring power to the station.

Discovery of Witches, both seasons. Expected a slightly more intelligent Twilight and that's what it was. My better half enjoyed it and I count that as a win since I found this one specifically for her. I owed her a bit after she had to see some of the Witcher S02, Wheel of Time and Foundation (she liked The Foundation though). So now she can't refuse me binging Lost in Space, season 3. Afterwards it's the second season of The Great, but we both like that one.

Afterwards it's the second season of The Great, but we both like that one. how is Lost In Space? I remember starting it a few years back when it first aired....But I couldn't really get into it, and then I got on to other things and never bothered to go back to it. I am vaguely familiar with the original but never watched it.

Japanese commercials, now normally you couldn't pay me to watch western tv ads but these are rather engaging and entertaining.

Finished Korean SF Silent Sea
The researchers on the moon station discovered there's water on the moon that could potentially resolve the water crisis on Earth and other problems that rise from the water shortage. However, the lunar water isn't like the water on Earth.
The knowledge about the water was leaked and mercenaries want to get it. The expedition team was already compromised before they set off. This ensued in some deaths after their arrival on the moon station.
Dr Song discovered the truth behind the moon station, the lunar water and the research carried out.
This story isn't bad. The cast is good. There isn't any flashy stuff just good pacing, acting and story telling. Looking forward to a season 2.

Watching HAWKEYE with my mom on Mouse Minus. Not exactly what either of us were expecting, I was expecting something more serious and dramatic...But I enjoyed the lighter, light-hearted comedic tone (and who couldn't love a Golden Retriever?!) But I really got into it once I noticed that one of Hawkeye's enemies(who we find out is known as Echo) was Deaf and used ASL (and legit ASL, because the actress is actually Culturally Deaf). Plus she is also an amputee, which I also felt was amazing to see because it raises awareness and brings representation to the screen..legitimately. Sure it could be done with effects, it has before many times. But this was 200% REAL, so I appreciated the on-screen performance that much more.
We watched 4 episodes in one sitting. Only two more to go.
Is that it? Is this a Limited series and then it's done, or are they going to make a Season 2 and have an on-going season thing?

I watched The Cleaners which is a documentary about content moderators for social media platforms and all the crap they encounter. These people frequently get PTSD from the job and describe some truly screwed up stuff.
