HBO's Rome from 2005 - 2007
I can narrate the entire script at this point because the series was simply that good IMHO. If I remember; 50% of the funding was provided jointly by HBO and the BBC, the other 50 % by the Italian RAI on the condition it would filmed in Italy and Italian labourers and extras would be hired. The show really improved my vocabulary and eloquence ( these shows tend to do that I guess )
If only the series had today's funding, we might have gotten a ( semi-redundant ? ) third season. With the recent unexpected passing of actor Ray Stevenson it wouldn't be same.
Finished Succession last week and somehow I was humorously hoping for Greg but out of the four children, Shiv seemed the most " sane ".
Also anyone else here stopped watching " Billions " ? Somehow after the pause I just couldn't get into it anymore.

Yesterday I stumbled into the new Dungeons & Dragons movie "Honor Among Thieves" on my streaming service. I am by no means a D&D enthusiast and really only wanted to watch the first couple of minutes to see how many references to RPGs like Baldur's Gate and Neverwinter Nights I would recognize. But the movie totally drew me in and I ended up watching all the way and having a great time. It's very funny and silly (actually drifts almost toward the Monty Python-esque at times) but the fact that it doesn't take it self seriously works perfectly with the over-the-top fantasy tropes. Costumes and effect are very variable and range from surprisingly good to really bad (as in clearly plastic weapons and AA video game level CGI). Some magic effects are really neat though and this brings us to the action. I don't think I ever saw a movie that uses magic so creatively in action scenes. There were several instances where I either cheered or laughed out loud because of some imaginative use of magic in combat. All in all, it was a surprise hit. I give it 8/10 GlaDOS approved magic wands. If you'd ask me to summarize this movie in just one sentence it would be "A slightly more cheaply produced Guardians of the Galaxy in a fantasy setting." and that's quite the compliment in my book.

Still computer-less (but it's in transit back this way) and my ballgame was rained out so I watched the new Avatar movie I recorded last weekend.
Thought it was all right... still dont get how the whole avatar thing actually works, certainly not to the point of having kids, but whatever. Liked the big sea creatures the best. A little too much teen angst for me. And of course, the ending screamed sequel.

Chesapeake Shores, US, Hallmark, Drama
I like Hallmark because they always make family oriented shows; morally right, encouraging, insightful. They are a breath of fresh green air and living presence. I hope they continue to make such shows in the years ahead.
The story is about the O'Brien family. How the departure of the mother of five in their early years affected them in the present.

I finished last of us and was a bit disapointed by the second half of the season. Not up to the first part imo, even with some gems like the 2 teenager girls episode, though i m not that much into the main girl acting and it was a bit too thin for a full episode IIRC . Especially the episode in KC felt bad despite good chars and actors. I wonder what good ideas (imo) and bad ones come from the game All in all still a good watch (imo)!

Just finished watching AVATAR: the way of water...what a fantastic movie! Amazing, equally as good as thr first and in some ways better.
I thoroughly enjoyed every minute of it.
Admittedly when i first heard that they were bringing back Quarich I thought, they cant he is dead. Then when I read he was being brought back as an Avatar I thought "oh thats just lazy writing. They bring back an already dead Antagonist in the form of an Avatar because they cant think kf anything better...this isnt going to work"
But I have to admit, it totally did. It wasnt the JJ level of lazy hack "somehow the Emperor returned....somehow.he came back" writing. The way Quarich was brought back as an Avatar actually made sense and was explained well. Then when you see it...it's not jarring as expected. And as the movie progressed I just accepted it, and I was toally fine with it.
But that goes to show the effort and quality of the writing.
Just an amazing movie! I watvhed it forst on Disney...and I already ordered the bluray from Amazon.

Daughter from Another Mother, Spanish, Comedy, three seasons
Story began with a nurse who foolishly took off the name tags of two newborn baby girls while she was bathing them and resulted in the wrong babies given to the mothers. The hospital discovered the mistake two weeks after and arranged to have the babies returned to the right mothers.
However, problems arose in how the moms fed and took care of their newborns. Ana, a well established business woman, followed a regime of careful touching and feeding of baby formula. Mariana was more down to earth and breastfeed and more on hands with the baby. Both women had formed attachments to their babies and hence were reluctant with the exchange but exchanged they did.
They went home and each discovered problems with the babies now used to a certain way of handling and feeding such that Ana proposed that Mariana move to her home and take care of the baby used to breastfeeding while she took care of the other.
As each season progressed, both Ana and Mariana formed a close relationship and became fast friends. However, their families became embroiled in problems that grew more complicated until at the end of season two, both Ana and Mariana had to resort to declaring they had fallen in love with each other in order to keep custody of their daughters.
It's rather hilarious with the season two ending. Season three of course began with the two camps (fathers of the babies vs mothers of the babies) planning strategies to undermine each other. I wonder who would win? 😂

I knew about this show years ago, but never really gave it much thought. Then it appeared on 'For You' - or whatever Netflix's recommended list is called - and I decided to check it out.
Have been watching on and off for a couple of months and am now into season 2, just finished the 10th episode. Love it. Wish I'd been watching since the start.

Watched the first episode of The Witcher season 3 last night. The story has continued well I think and the plot has been set towards what to expect this season.
I kind of watched it with mixed feelings since I know Henry Cavill will be replaced by another one and kind of thinking what this will mean for the franchise.

Finished "The Company You Keep" Quite enjoyed it, a bit salty that the Network canceled it. Presently watching "The Catch" which is also quite enjoyable.
Want to watch DUNE, if only to compare it to the 1984 film that I grew up on.
Am excited about AHSOKA....

Till The End of the Moon, Chinese fantasy wuxia drama I don't care for the razzle dazzle effects at the start when the story begins with an evil lord attacking the good factions. He's so powerful that not a single one could stand against him. I managed to miss some parts but I gathered a spiritual force informed the daughter, Susu, of the leader of the good faction that the world and heavenly realm will be destroyed. There is but one chance to change it and that is to change the path of the evil lord when he was mortal, Tantai Jin. Everyone was killed before Susu's eyes before she was sent back into the mortal world 500 years ago. She woke up in the body of the daughter of a general and discovered she was married to Tantai Jin, a hostage prince from the Jing Kingdom. Throughout his life, he was treated badly, so badly he would welcome death. However, if he were to die, the gem of evil within him will sprout and he will turn into the devil lord. Susu understands that she has to keep him alive at all costs while she tries to find out what is this gen of evil, where is it in his body. She has an uphill task as she found out for the girl whose body she inhabits was willful, pampered and treated / tortured Tantai Jin, her husband horrible. She has to work to gain his trust. Everyone around her, the family and servants, did not treat Tantai Jin well so he is isolated and suffered everyday. Story and characters are promising which is a hopeful sign. However the battle at the beginning sprouts too much fantasy / special FX Chinese productions are so fond of using for this genre. Nobody cares about true sword dances any more. I guess it's easier to tie actors to ropes and tell them to pretend they are flinging out powers / spells and look scary etc than have them learn some basic martial arts and how to handle a sword.

Been watching a lot lately. Star Trek: Strange New Worlds, probably my favourite. Probably my favourite trek since DS9 more accurately. Also rewatching Enterprise but that's slow going. Dr. Phlox really carries it early on. Burned thru Part 3 of Witcher. Liked it well enough, not much attachment to it anymore. Finished Silo S1. Never read the books, never watched a trailer, had 0 knowledge going in. It was alright, had a couple good hooks that kept me interested. The premise was a lil shaky/simplistic but they powered through with a bit of "tell don't show." It felt like a book adaptation going in, particularly with the info-dump early on. I will say they addressed a question I'd assumed was a plot-hole in episode 4 or 5, that I'd had since ep1. Most of the acting was good, Deputy Billings, Holston, Marnes, and Mayor Jahns were standouts. Ferguson was alright but she oversells it sometimes. Just started up Hijack starring Idris Elba. Pretty dry first episode, but the very last line has me curious about the next ep. (Which I am about to watch.)
Keeping up with Secret Invasion as well but it's kinda... meh.

The spoiled part was formulaic and felt, "businessy".
The reveal was nice and laid out well but I'm waiting on a, hook, of some kind. End of ep 3 perhaps.

Fingers crossed. Almost all of the MCU content - post Endgame - has been falling a little flat for me. Most of it has been 'fine', and very little of it has been 'bad', but that isn't the standard I'm used to from them. On the D+ side, WandaVision and Ms Marvel are the only ones I've really liked a lot (plus one episode of She-Hulk). And the films have had the 2 Spider-Man movies, plus Shang Chi. The rest has been pretty average.

The rest has been pretty average. I haven't tried Ms Marvel. She-Hulk was rough, I liked seeing DD again tho. But... it was rough. I watched it all. And it was. Rough. That poor, poor, dead horse. It's beat. We dun get it. No amount of fourth wall breaks will save you.
I loved Moon Knight and Loki. Wandavision was great and I loved that it felt like they took some serious artistic license. Falcon+WS was meh. Spiderman: NWH was the closure I didn't know I needed. By far my favourite of the Marvel Movies after Endgame. Raimi did so much with so little time. Andrew Garfield is hilarious in a rewatch.
I liked Dr Strange 2 even if it had... issues. I can't not like Pikkerd in the chair, and Jack Ryan as F4 works really well. Also, just saiyan, but we never see a body... ShangChi felt formulaic, but fluffy fun. Specifically, it felt like something trying to target a culturally-wide gap.
I probably liked Eternals more than most, but I can't help but laugh at how much onscreen chemistry Angelina Jolie and Richard Madden had compared to Madden's intended love interest Gemma Chan. (I liked her in Humans.) I consider myself pretty dense when it comes to this stuff but even I could see it. Hell I thought I was imagining it, then I look at the reddit and lo'n'behold one of the first posts is mirroring my exact thoughts. All the confirmation bias I need for that tyvm.
I got a kick out of Thor Love and Thunder but it was such a patchwork abomination it couldn't save itself. I loved Stormbreaker's jealousy. That shit cracked me up first time.
Did I mention She-Hulk was rough?
Oh...
Black Panther 2.
"Meh" is insufficient while "bad" is a bit too much.
Can't really blame em though. Shitty dish to serve, no which way you prep it.

Watched the first episode of Titans S4 - solid start. Good Lex. Too bad he didn't make it out of the episode. Some random scientist he screwed over might be the Big Bad?
Also watched the first two episodes of Witcher S3. Ouch. The fight scenes were excellent. Everything I'd hope for a live action Geralt to be. And what I had hoped - in vain - for Lan to be on the Wheel of Time - a 'hurricane of steel'. But for the rest it seems very uneven. Hoping the next few can sort it out. Also - why can this series not make elves look good? Francesca aside, they all look like they're cosplaying elves, not actors in a multi million dollar Netflix series.

WoT S2 feels like it should be appearing sometime relatively soon, that must be fall. I check but google is so far away.

Also - why can this series not make elves look good? Francesca aside, they all look like they're cosplaying elves, not actors in a multi million dollar Netflix series. I couldn't make it through the first new episode of the new Titans. (Not a new season, part 2 of, whatever season...) Anyways, I think I've given up on it. We'll see... but. Yeah.
WoT S2 feels like it should be appearing sometime relatively soon, that must be fall. I check but google is so far away.
Fair. It has always been a bit uneven in terms of quality. I did see that S4 was split in to two (and that it is the final season). I just thought Lex was cool and liked the depiction of Star Labs in the first episode.
