I wouldn't be surprised if the trailer was just them fishing for ideas. Put some vague crap in, hint at a few things, see how people respond in order to craft your plans. This is the most reasonable post I’ve seen in this thread so far.

Remember when BioWare said they would start teasing games only a few months to a year before release? That was funny. Now they’re teasing games half a decade away Yeah, that part is weird. For Mass Effect, maybe the logic was "Hey, we are making a sequel to the original trilogy, so let's release a trailer for the Next Mass Effect before we release the Legendary Edition so we can hype people up to explore the trilogy era before this new game". Hence generate more sales. While I loved this trailer, it would have made more sense to release it at the next Game Awards in 2021, or at E3 2022. That way, there would be (hopefully) positive energy from a very successful remaster with the Legendary Edition, then a trailer confirming a post-ME3 setting would have sent that excitement to new levels.

The earliest release is 2023, and that’s a generous one. I think that's still too generous. It's possible DA4 will release in (Q1) 2023. I'm going to go with no sooner than 2025-6. I also think DA4 could slip to 2023. I do think that in this scenario though, NME could be released in 2024-2025. I think they might go back to back with those games...if they manage to do so. I won’t certainly bet on it. My 2023 take for NME is if DA4 would be released in 2022, but it is indeed quite generous. 3 years from now of both preproduction and full development seem too little.

Now that I think about, we can use DA4 as a way to determine, more or less, NME’s possible release. Both games were around preproduction when they were revealed at TGA 2018 and 2020. We can argue which one was more deep into it, by judging the kind of initial tease we got and the fact that DA might’ve re-used previous ideas and plots of Joplin, but I think the two teams weren’t more then a few months different in their respective timelines.
We do know that DA4 was supposed to be released early 2022. That’s about 3 years from the initial teaser. Now, between the pandemic and problems with development that could/can happen, I wouldn’t bet on a release before late 2022 or the start of 2023. From the initial teaser, that’d be around 4 years, a few months more, a few months less, depending on the when the release will happen.
I’d say that considering the pandemic (although I’m not sure if it’d hit pre-production as hard as it’d a full development year), the LE going on and other Problems BioWare could have, I think a late 2024/early 2025 release is possible, if NME would follow the same path that DA4 would’ve had, prior to the pandemic. DA4’s release could give us a clearer view for NME, whenever that will be.

The issue is they're down one studio now (BW Montreal being absorbed into Motive), but they've added a new AAA franchise into the mix with Anthem. So... more work, but fewer people, and everyone working from home which is slowing down production. DA4 and Anthem 2.0 are next in line (+ SW in Austin), so I don't see ME ramping up until sometime after DA4 launches. And DA4 is supposed to be a Live Service game, so they'll need staff to keep that going too.

From the original conference call, we had heard DA4 was originally supposed to launch sometime after April 2022. But BW likes to launch their games in either the first or the last quarter of the (calendar) year. Since we knew it wasn't going to launch in the first quarter, that meant Fall 2022. But... that was pre-Covid. They will adjust scope, of course, but I think getting pushed into Q1 of 2023 is a pretty real possibility. But probably not further than that as their FY ends at the end of March.

You’re right about the problems mentioned in your other post, but it seems EA is willing to loan devs to Bioware. And I’m not sure of EA’s plans for those releases. In any case, we’ll see.

I expect a new protagonist, always have. I think Shepard will be in the story, the N7 thing is hard core trolling you fans if he's not. But I suspect his role will be limited, maybe as a background character, more general sending people off than soldier. Shepard's not going to be alive 600 years in the future. Unless Liara keeps a small group of Shepard clones and thaws them out in regular intervals. It does seem that Liara is smiling to someone important, though. Important to her, but probably also someone we'd recognise. Or at least Mike seems to imply so. And at first I thought what if that someone was Shepard and Liara's daughter? Well, she'd be only 100 years younger than Liara, so still pretty old. Which rules that one out. As I said, I don't know everything and this is probably not making it out of the writers group in Edmonton. Time to put on my barista hat and catch some rumours in the coffee shop. I definitely miss the days of getting a new ME or DA every year or two. That was non-viable.

Well - I can only say one thing....
If they dare to resurrect Shepard for the n-th time AGAIN I am out of here. I bloody do NOT want to play that stupid Shepard AGAIN. I think its soooo cheap to capitalize on that same old story again. After 3 games I have enough of that cheap superhero stuff and frankly am tired of it. If we do not get any connection with Andromeda and go for an rehearsal of the same grey old Milky way-boring stuff again, I am not going to play it, and not going to give a single cent for it.
So - Unless the come with something surprising in stead of a re-rehearsal of the same old stuff again, the series is dead for me. Harsh, but I want something fresh and new in stead of a old cellar filled with cobwebs.
Maybe Dragon Age will save Bioware for me, but seeing the Anthem mark all written over it does not fill me with confidence.

I'm of the same mind with jclosed and I think they are going to tie them together as that was one of AI's missions. So Shepards story is done and most of MET people dont come back, we need new stories people and places.

If they're alive have them be mentioned in broadcasts etc. I don't want to play as Shepard again.

Bioware's talk of incorporating the milky way universe with Andromeda's is concerning. It's like trying to combine a fine spaghetti Bolognese dish with cow dung.
A prequel would have been the best option.

Now Now - Comparing the Milky Way to cow dug is maybe a bit too far. Come on - I had a nice time in that neighborhood, before I got bored to death with it.
But a prequel? Hmm.. going back to the 50's is not my cup of tea. I rather look forward to something new and inspiring, like a sequel of Andomeda.

I don't mind Shepard's story being over. 3 games of Shepard is okay to let him/her rest. However, They absolutely need to address the god awful plot destroying endings of ME3. So long as they do that, and open up the ME franchise to continue in the Milky Way Galaxy... In whatever format. I am a happy colonist.

A prequel would have been the best option. Except a prequel, like Andromeda, is still side-stepping the issue at hand. Fix the endings first, make destroy canon or prove Indoctrination theory. Then open up the franchise to all sorts of possibilities. The only problem with a prequel, ala first contact war, is you already know how it ends.

Bioware's talk of incorporating the milky way universe with Andromeda's is concerning. It's like trying to combine a fine spaghetti Bolognese dish with cow dung. A prequel would have been the best option. I don’t think it’d have generated that high of an interest. Besides, I think their/EA plan is to find a way to go forward, so that the IP can continue. So either by continuing Andromeda, or going back to the MW...or a mixture of those, whatever the result will be. A prequel would’ve only postponed the inevitable decision of what path they’ll have to take. I think the most important thing, however, is to release a polished, complete game. Regardless of the problems that one can/might found with Andromeda in regards of his plot and characters, the main reason for its fall was the mess that it was at release. Anthem went a step forward, as the game wasn’t even complete. While it’s positive that many devs from the trilogy appears to be back, my concern on the development problems that BioWare had in recent years will remain until they’ll release a game in a normal state (hopefully with no leaks or inside sources of crunch).

Digging up that old stuff again is in my honest opinion a cheap cash grab, an frankly - boring.
They already do a re-master of those old games so everybody can do it all again to their heart's content. I think it's finally time for something new. Doing another game in the same setting (and heaven forbid, with the same crew), does simply not inspire me at all...

A theory of some is that the LE would serve as a bridge for many new players to a NME game set as a sequel to the trilogy. I wouldn’t say there are high chances for the exact same crew to be back...if anything, with Liara being clearly older, only a few have chances to be back, with Grunt being the most likely one in any Liara-timeline scenario.
