I expect a new protagonist, always have. I think Shepard will be in the story, the N7 thing is hard core trolling you fans if he's not. But I suspect his role will be limited, maybe as a background character, more general sending people off than soldier. Shepard's not going to be alive 600 years in the future. Unless Liara keeps a small group of Shepard clones and thaws them out in regular intervals. It does seem that Liara is smiling to someone important, though. Important to her, but probably also someone we'd recognise. Or at least Mike seems to imply so. And at first I thought what if that someone was Shepard and Liara's daughter? Well, she'd be only 100 years younger than Liara, so still pretty old. Which rules that one out. As I said, I don't know everything and this is probably not making it out of the writers group in Edmonton. Time to put on my barista hat and catch some rumours in the coffee shop. I definitely miss the days of getting a new ME or DA every year or two. That was non-viable.
You insisting its 600 years in the future in no way means I have any reason to believe you as some prophet. I trust your implied inside scoops like every other person who claims the same.

We really know absolutely nothing. Maybe it's in an entirely new galaxy altogether. Neither Milky Way nor Andromeda. Dead Reapers. Right there in the trailer. Unless Reapers are now present in multiple galaxies? Actually, forget I typed that. Shouldn't give them ideas. Dead Reapers in the Large Magellanic Cloud confirmed!

Again, I am going to go with perception. What is good, what is bad, what would get more people on board, etc. One thing that companies usually do, after establishing a franchise with a cast that is well liked and then decide to retire it, they try it with a new cast and it either goes well or it doesn't. If the new title falls short of expectations, or worse bombs, then the studio brings back the established crew to promote the new one, or backpedal to the old one. Studios do that for a lot of reasons, but fan favourites are always a plus. It doesn't mean that Bioware needs to go down that route, they are free to go about it however they want. However, Bioware has not been doing that well for a while now. Criticisms have started, largely, since DA2. Then ToR wasn't that well received and only became profitable in, what was it, 2018? 7 years after launch? Embarrassing. Especially for a Star Wars title. ME3 was largely divisive, DA:I was met with mixed reception from the audiences while Andromeda and Anthem got slammed, regardless of personal opinions. Interest in Bioware and its IPs from the public have been waning and while you could follow up Andromeda with Andromeda 2, it would go about as well as one would expect Terminator: Dark Fate 2 to go. Its studio has categorically denied it will make a sequel to that movie. So what should Bioware do? Go back to Shepard and attract some good will? Double down on a very difficult endeavor to Andromeda 2? Apparently, Bioware decided to do neither. They're going back to the Milky Way, hundreds of years in the future, with a new protagonist and crew and, of course, Liara, who I thoroughly expect to see in every ME now, to the heat death of the universe. It's an unusual tactic. It might work. But I can't bring myself to care for it and, unless ME is Liara to you, I don't know if you'll care, either. I don't expect ME5 to be a great game. It will border on meh with some good ideas, terrible execution and the best gameplay of the series. It's a bargain bin title. Plot twist: Imagine if she IS the protagonist I would be down for this.

Plot twist: Imagine if she IS the protagonist I don't think a 700 year old granny asari is going to be a protagonist of a 3 man squad TPS. She's too old. Even Samara was ~300-400 years old and she was most likely at the far end of her active career. Neither Benezia, nor Aethyta were active any longer. And they probably were younger than what Liara will be in ME5. Unless you want to claim the game almost cost 1 billions to make, it can't have broken even only after 8 years as EA announced TOR made more than 1 billions in revenue back in 2019...and it didn't make most of that money in 2018-2019. It's one of the top Western MMORPG when it comes to revenues since release. There was an article that said ToR made back its budget. It was from ... 2018? 2017? I don't remember. I am sure someone here has the link to it. ToR going free to play made it vastly more profitable and that was a good move no doubt, but it wasn't received well on release. I am not forgetting the "ToRtanic". I played TOR at release (for 6 months) and it was well received by people playing it. The ToRtanic shit was from the people who wanted it to "beat WoW" without China and Korea, which was retarded.

SirSourpuss: Isn’t Samara in the Matriach stage, and stated to be nearly a thousand year old? I never saw a reference or mention that she’s 300-400 years old. Wrex is also around that age. Granted, I don’t think Liara will be the PC regardless if she’s 300 or 700 years old, and regardless the age Samara was active.

For those who want a transcript of what was said in the trailer (minus some distorted voices that will take audio file manipulation to extract). Here is what I got so far: 0:08 - We know now that in the early years of the 20th century, this world was being watched. ( No idea about this) 0:16 - Roger Copy. Eagle Houston, you are go for landing. (Apollo landings) 0:21 - Arcturus Station, unknown vessels approaching. Initiate first contact protocols (First Contact War) 0:27 - Humanity now stands as partners of the galaxy (Humanity meets Citadel Races) 0:32 - Ark 6 is away. Godspeed (Quarian Ark from the Andromeda Initiative) 0:39 - We've got to take down the Dreadnaught 0:42 - Engines are going crazy. Abandon ship (image of a Mass relay in the background) 0:47 - Is anyone receiving this? We've lost contact. 0:52 - You're not leaving us all behind (sounds like Liara's goodbye from the beam run in ME3) 0:54 - (Some whispers I cannot decipher) 0:08 - We know now that in the early years of the 20th century, this world was being watched. (No idea about this) Could this imply the Salarians were watching?
Thought I read something about this in some book or heard it in one of the games -they were watching us early on.

Hyped but worried. It’s a new ME but they better fucking not drop Andromeda all together. Hopefully they find a way to blend it. We really know absolutely nothing. Maybe it's in an entirely new galaxy altogether. Neither Milky Way nor Andromeda. Well... The video does pan from the area of Triangulum to and through the Milky Way and then looks at Andromeda. Is that a symbolistic way of showing forget Andromeda and the Milky Way and going to some where new... Or is it showing that something is watching from a far and getting ready to make itself known to our survivors of the scourge and reapers?

I also think DA4 could slip to 2023. I do think that in this scenario though, NME could be released in 2024-2025. I think they might go back to back with those games...if they manage to do so. I won’t certainly bet on it. My 2023 take for NME is if DA4 would be released in 2022, but it is indeed quite generous. 3 years from now of both preproduction and full development seem too little. The issue is they're down one studio now (BW Montreal being absorbed into Motive), but they've added a new AAA franchise into the mix with Anthem. So... more work, but fewer people, and everyone working from home which is slowing down production. DA4 and Anthem 2.0 are next in line (+ SW in Austin), so I don't see ME ramping up until sometime after DA4 launches. And DA4 is supposed to be a Live Service game, so they'll need staff to keep that going too. What? mmm haven't found a single AAA game that has justified it's microtransactions with continual content updates and have actually released an adequate amount of content updates. Will Bioware be the first!!!? after anthem!!!? ahahahaha gosh! thank you for the laugh!!!, I pass! Scrap DA4. Next!

Back in The Milky Way then Still, I just noticed on my second viewing that Liara does look a bit aged. That's a great sign at least.

0:54 - (Some whispers I cannot decipher) Let me help that: 0:52-0:53:
"The Anomaly is spreading across space." For 0:08, user bshep clarified that the quote comes from the sci-fi book "The War of the Worlds". So it's likely that the quote is just meant to symbolize that there are other species out there, which makes sense since this quote is at the beginning of the video, even before 0:16 when they describe the Apollo landings. As for 0:52, that sounds like one possible phrase. Since these whispers come after the Reaper horn, I really get the feeling that there is some interesting info there about the state of the galaxy, but that BioWare made the voices intentionally difficult to hear, likely to make us work for any new info we want to get.

We did see Matriarchs that looked older then Samara...even Benezia looked older then the latter. Samara might simply be the exception to the norm. Both Aethyta and Benezia should be around a thousand years old, but I'd argue neither look as old as Liara does in the trailer. And it's not a limitation of the engine, as they made it look just fine on Chakwas. Benezia only has some bags under her eyes. So maybe they decided to take a harder stance on Asari age, going forward or something is off. And the Reaper carcasses would not be standing, after say 1200 years. I mean, sure, they could be made of more durable material, but no erosion, other than damage sustained during the Reaper war? Even so, the space debris we see, should have been cleared off after 1200 years. It doesn't change much, really. Technically, the Andromeda Initiative is still established, it will be given time to expand, even if Ryder and Co. are dead, we can still see them in transmissions, that take a while to reach back to the Milky Way. But it increasingly looks like Liara is, at that age, at a wrong place in the timeline.

If I have to take a guess, they simply decided to make Liara more ‘aged’ then Samara, and not necessarily have the first older then the latter. We did see Matriarchs that looked older then Samara...even Benezia looked older then the latter. Samara might simply be the exception to the norm. The easiest reason is people are seeing more age than is supposed to be there. I have more crows feet on my ryder and hes like 24. Its art in a trailer, the artist very easily may not have been trying to represent age at all from those lines. That is peoples interpretations form a 2 second bit.

0:54 - (Some whispers I cannot decipher) Let me help that: 0:52-0:53:
"The Anomaly is spreading across space." This could be a reference to the scourge.

I’m not going to guess the age, but it seems clear that they intentionally made her look older. While you’re right that each person is different and age differently, Liara didn’t have lines or wrinkles last time we saw. To place those in the teaser, you have to decide to make her look older then she was. Could it be nothing in the end? Maybe. But I’m sure that even in this case, it was made with the intent to have people speculate about her appearance. Something to point out, not to start a discussion on the popularity of the series but on why it happened, but the NME teaser is being watched far more then the DA4 one in their respective channels, the former almost triplicating the views of the latter.

When it goes through the mw, it shows the heleus cluster too.

Maybe, but we just don't see her in these kind of movies often its usually in game or cut scenes where details are more smoothed out. She wasn't wrinkled, when she had a facial expression she developed lines. That can just be artistic style to represent her smile. Maybe it is a time jump of that significance, and bridging the 2 galaxies is a decent idea. But people are hanging on a brief instance of lines appearing as rock solid proof. When young people develop lines when they smile. And a artists 2 second representation of a 100 year old blue alien who is like a 19 year old its kind of hard to judge from.

If the game is set a few centuries after the OT then I wonder whether we'll see Wrex finally die of old age.
I always thought that was what they were gearing up to with Drack anyway.
