If I have to take a guess, they simply decided to make Liara more ‘aged’ then Samara, and not necessarily have the first older then the latter. We did see Matriarchs that looked older then Samara...even Benezia looked older then the latter. Samara might simply be the exception to the norm. Both Aethyta and Benezia should be around a thousand years old, but I'd argue neither look as old as Liara does in the trailer. And it's not a limitation of the engine, as they made it look just fine on Chakwas. Benezia only has some bags under her eyes. So maybe they decided to take a harder stance on Asari age, going forward or something is off. And the Reaper carcasses would not be standing, after say 1200 years. I mean, sure, they could be made of more durable material, but no erosion, other than damage sustained during the Reaper war? Even so, the space debris we see, should have been cleared off after 1200 years. It doesn't change much, really. Technically, the Andromeda Initiative is still established, it will be given time to expand, even if Ryder and Co. are dead, we can still see them in transmissions, that take a while to reach back to the Milky Way. But it increasingly looks like Liara is, at that age, at a wrong place in the timeline. Benezia having a really aged face a la Chakwas would have been weird with the giant cleavage they gave her. Can you imagine the roars of people being angry about their confused b*ners at seeing a grandma with that rack? And Aethyta didn't even have the same face from ME2 to ME3.

Something i wanted to point out when i first saw the trailer is the music. It's me1's theme so i instantly knew it's gonna take place on mw.
Also, Michael gamble said that blade runner 2049 was a big inspiration for him, and composer benjamin wallfisch has made the music for the movie as welll for the nme trailer.

The easiest reason is people are seeing more age than is supposed to be there. I have more crows feet on my ryder and hes like 24. Its art in a trailer, the artist very easily may not have been trying to represent age at all from those lines. That is peoples interpretations form a 2 second bit. I don't know. You can see the wrinkling in her cheeks, even before she smiles. Something to point out, not to start a discussion on the popularity of the series but on why it happened, but the NME teaser is being watched far more then the DA4 one in their respective channels, the former almost triplicating the views of the latter. I've said several times that the interest in DA is at an all time low and even less than ME. There is basically no DA conversation, outside of targeted fandoms. Even here the DA discussion died the moment the ME trailer popped up. Which is why I keep saying that Bioware hoping to turn things around with DA isn't going to happen and that DA being the "best selling" Bioware game is very skewed. You might see Anthem overtake it in the next year, before even the relaunch. Which will be for the exact same reasons why DA:I is the best selling Bioware game. Because you can buy it for as low as $0.99

Unsurprising. ME has always been far more popular than Dragon Age. And even though DA:O is my favorite Bioware game, I would say the ME series is the better one overall. I distinctly remember how some years back a DA dev (Mark Darrah?) got rather standoffish about how DA was the mature, prestige franchise while ME was the pulpy popular sibling, a characterization I found rather mystifying.

Fantasy, in general, is less popular than sci-fi. It's a stigma the genre as a whole has borne for decades and continues to this day. How many high budget fantasy blockbusters are there compared to sci-fi? What about TV shows? Game of Thrones became super popular in its first season by marketing itself as "fantasy for people who don't like fantasy". I've not heard a science fiction product marketing itself like that. Science fiction is the realm of innovation, great human quandaries about our place in the universe, shooting aliens in the face and kissing green (or blue) babes. Fantasy is for nerds who larp in the park. It's a sad truth but there it is. Bioware's marketing just seems to go with the consensus of popular perception.

Don't think any genre's more maligned than fantasy in our collective consciousness, other than romance. Both have the reputation of being frilly nonsense for (man)children and women, respectively. It doesn't help that DA is still relatively "old school," D&Dish fantasy despite everything, rather than the grimdark that's in vogue nowadays and that gets marketed as "fantasy for people who don't like fantasy."

I'm wondering if they will set the game during a 'reconstruction era' after the reaper war? It would be a good opportunity to shake up the state of the galaxy with shifts in the balance of power and challenges to citadel authority...

0:08 - We know now that in the early years of the 20th century, this world was being watched. (No idea about this) Could this imply the Salarians were watching?
Thought I read something about this in some book or heard it in one of the games -they were watching us early on.
0:54 - (Some whispers I cannot decipher) Let me help that: 0:52-0:53:
"The Anomaly is spreading across space." This could be a reference to the scourge. 0:08 That's Orson Welles' voice narrating War of the Worlds from 1938 The "anomaly" could also be the RGB space magic sweeping across the galaxy

Remember when BioWare said they would start teasing games only a few months to a year before release? That was funny. Now they’re teasing games half a decade away I suspect it's to calm fears following Casey Hudson and Mark Darrah's departure. They did the same thing with DAI following the Doctors leaving.

I expect a new protagonist, always have. I think Shepard will be in the story, the N7 thing is hard core trolling you fans if he's not. But I suspect his role will be limited, maybe as a background character, more general sending people off than soldier. Shepard's not going to be alive 600 years in the future. Unless Liara keeps a small group of Shepard clones and thaws them out in regular intervals. It does seem that Liara is smiling to someone important, though. Important to her, but probably also someone we'd recognise. Or at least Mike seems to imply so. And at first I thought what if that someone was Shepard and Liara's daughter? Well, she'd be only 100 years younger than Liara, so still pretty old. Which rules that one out. As I said, I don't know everything and this is probably not making it out of the writers group in Edmonton. Time to put on my barista hat and catch some rumours in the coffee shop. Not that I'd want Shepard back after that radioactive dumpster fire of an ending, but seriously, after Shepard got spaced, suffocated, smacked with a planet, and left exposed to subzero temperatures and toxic chemicals and they were still able to bring him back, death is only a mild inconvenience. They can just whip up some even more magical space magic to bring Shep back. Put an AI in his/her head to turn our commander into an ever superer super-soldier too!

It wouldn't be hard to say after the reapers death with the tech they pull lifespans now are in the thousands of years. Synthesis is the natural evolution blah blah. And this is still assuming its 600 years in the future, which we really don't know. Virtually any time frame post reaper can be pulled from what they released. If enough people yell, woo Shepard again, odds are they will put Shepard in at least in some capacity.

Shinobi602 @shinobi602Right, and concept art from the new game shows as much. This seems to be human designation. MR7 = Mass Relay 7? #MassEffect Michael Gamble @gamblemikeDerek would cry if saw this. Is that a camera flash? The humanity! Here. have the real thing (from Bioware 25 book). Shinobi's also wrong in his speculation though

Shinobi's also wrong in his speculation though About it being a human designation or about what it stands for? Well, it does look like a relay, so I'm guessing is he's wrong about it being human built. There's a lot of infrastructure below the construction, so it could be built by another race. Built by the Jardaans maybe for the humans/MW races? A trans-galactic relay to bridge Andromeda with the Milky Way?

Tom Phillips @tomphillipsegI guess a more interesting question is *why* is a new relay being built? We saw the ones damaged in the Reaper war repaired. So... where does this new design lead Michael Gamble @gamblemikeA most excellent question. - Yeah, I'm guessing a trans-galactic relay linking Andromeda to the Milky Way. Built by the Jardaans maybe for the AI?

My guess is … MR7 is a human designation, but it doesn't stand for Mass Relay 7, it stands for Mass Relay for Habitat 7. Ryder twins hardest hit. I should go.
