Bloomberg: Dragon Age 4 Will Now Be A SP (Non-LS) Game

The point is, the SP budget is not diminished by the addition of MP or enhanced by deletion of MP … if SP only, you only get the SP budget … if you add MP, you get money for MP. But if you decide not to do MP, then you don't get to keep that money to add to SP.

Also, generally, the MP team is different from the SP team. They communicate and coordinate, but different teams.

I didn't play DAMP … early on, when I might have, game instability deterred me from trying it out. Later, once the game stability issues were resolved, what I'd read of MP, I wasn't interested.

This is about 180 out from ME3MP … I started it because of war assets and readiness states. My disappointment with the ending was mitigated in large part, because I fell in love with the MP. I bought all the SP DLC as a thank you to BioWare, because the MP was so good. Then, after some mods had come down the pipe, I went back and did all my runs imported from ME -> ME2 -> ME3 … 19 in total. But MP kept me into the game and gave me enough time to go back and do those runs. MEAMP never got the full development of ME3MP, which was unfortunate.

If they do a MP side game to DA4, depending on the combat, I might give it a whirl. But as others have said, I play DA for the story, not the MP. And largely, that's true of the ME franchise.

In any case, DA4 SP and not GAAS is great news. Now BioWare, spin a great tale to tell us.

While lucrative and popular, it may have the unwanted effect of tampering with data. Obviously the people who played ME for the MP alone, may not be interested in any of the SP aspects of the game and as such, corrective adjustments to the SP could be made, to entice the MP players, in hopes of expanding the fanbase further, get more people who play MP games to check out the SP, while driving out the people that played the SP for what it was, making an overal worse end product.

It would be best to decouple the two and provide the MP as a F2P live service, like Apex Legends. It wouldn't even have to be developed by Bioware and could simply reuse assets from the mainline games, significantly reducing budget development costs for either title.

Wonder if this means we'll have a proper power wheel again, instead of being forced to forget a power when we want to use a new one?

People were comparing the Mass Effect development cost to the complete Witcher budget which factored in marketing.

I wouldn't mind a Bioware live service game. The CONCEPT I'm fine with. I just don't think it falls into Bioware's strengths and I don't think they'd do it well  

WTF, good news? Not good, great news, actually. Are we still in the 2020s? 

I'm kind of concerned about what this means for the development of the game. If it was structured for a GaaS experience, it may not work well as a standard SP game, and reestructuring would mean further delay. 

Good news if true that live service nonsense has been ditched.

Absolutely brilliant news! I am excited about the game again. Let’s hope this good-decision-train keeps rolling and BioWare can be given the freedom to get back to its roots.
