Whom is a Mary Sue

TO Andromeda fans here, If you want to me to make a thread of my Andromeda idea, it is encouraged to vote the last option on this poll. For I do have a few ideas that people might like.

I love Liara to bits but she is a Mary Sue, there is no denying it. At the human equivalent of 20 years old or so, she is an exceptional scientists/archeologist, excellent fighter, a biotic powerhouse, daughter of two matriarchs, one of which was one of the most influential personalities in Asari politics and by ME2 she also is a tremendous information broker who manages to uncover and then take over the identity of the galaxy's most infamous figure ever. Also, she is dam secy.

So well, what can I say, if one of my favorite characters in this series is a Mary Sue, that's how it is.

As someone who legitimatley despises Liara...especially in 1...I can't help but disagree here.

I don't think she is that good of an archeologist. She is a good information broker, so she says, but she never really exhibits much skill with archeology per se. Yes, she ends up being onto the whole Reaper thing and ends up challenging galactic orthodoxy when it came to the Prothean and was onto the truth when it came to the galactic extinction cycle... but I don't really think that is much proof that she is a good archeologist, given the evidence, just that she was a good contrarian. Tell me is Daniel Jackson a mary sue for accurately predicting the pyramids were landing pads for Goa'uld motherships in Stargate just because everyone else laughed him out of the building?

And this might be confirmation bias since I never really took her anywhere but I never found her to be that good of a combatant. Fine she is a bit weird to I suppose be good at both...but that is hardly unique within the confines of Mass Effect.

No if anything she is really just a conduit to further exemplify and dig into Shepard's 'suedom' (as an aside I really hate using the word in its bastardized context...though given Shep's RPG roots I suppose they can technically qualify for either definition so here we are). But in the end she is just a cheerleading video game waifu whose only real purpose seems to be pump up Shepard's/ the player's ego.

Liara's a Mary Sue. Having powerful parents can be, but often isn't, an indicator. The issue that she's just as good with guns as trained soldiers is a part of it. The fact that she is somehow the most powerful information broker this side of the Shadow Broker in two years makes her a Mary Sue.
