So yesterday I made significant progress in Blood and Wine. First I want to say Toussaint looks like a fairy tale but with monsters. Killed a giant, a Bruxa, and some beast at a tourney. Met Cinderella I mean the Duchess (she's feisty I like her.) Together we went and tracked down who was responsible for the killings in Toussaint. It was some sort of master vampire. He and Geralt got into a fight and it was a hard fight but I figured out the pattern to beat him. Let's just say Quen is the best sign in the series. Another vampire intervened and the master vampire escaped. The vampire that intervened was an old friend of Geralt who I am guessing is from the books. A lot of references to characters and past events that took place in the books that fly over my head. Anyway the vampire's name is Regis and told Geralt to meet up at a cemetery nearby. That's where I left off for the day.

Regis is from the books, and also from one of the Witcher 1 DLC maybe? Fantastic character, you may also have read about some of his story in in-game books in Witcher 2. I also defeated Detlaff, v1.0, yesterday. As well as winning the tourney with FLAWLESS VICTORY and helping relieve a curse the best way we could agree to lift it. A compromise, but the client is happy so mission successful? 5/19 on the Skellige deck. I am actually good at Gwent now, which is a nightmare. DragonKingReborn, beware.

You know I only bought two books one on Nekkers and one on Endrega. Once I found out I did not need to buy books to get to know a creatures strengths and weaknesses; I haven't bought another one since.

I'm watching an old interview with the voice actor who plays Geralt, and in it he says CDPR instructed him to sound like Dirty Harry. I was a kid back then but my dad was a huge Eastwood fan, so he made me watch them. Now I hope Geralt gets to ask an enemy "If they feel lucky?" Also Geralt sounds a lot like Solid Snake from the Metal Gear Solid series.

Yeah, the games would've been lesser without some Regis action. Who is arguably Geralt's best bro after Dandelion. The Netflix show is a train wreck, but I'm still curious to see how they handle Geralt's hanza, I can't help it. LOL.

Yeah, books are mostly only good for the lore, although sometimes they are mandatory quest items which you usually get pushed into finding/buying. I have never read the actual physical books IRL, but I have read a lot of "lore" from these snippets we get in the various books in the game world. It is only there when you want to really smell the roses. This entire run has been my "definitive" run for Geralt, as I likely won't play the games again for a long time and I wanted to really explore it. I did read some lore about Regis in my recent TW2 playthrough and was pleased to learn a little more of his tale. Savor Blood and Wine, no need to rush it. You have a reward waiting for you when it's over because you were a good witcher, and until then some great character development, several genuine moments of choice and consequence, some hilarity... I envy you your virgin mind

I envy you your virgin mind I'm enjoying the Blood and Wine dlc. Already Regis got me questioning whether I should kill that vampire whose name I forgot. It feels like Olgierd Von Everac all over again with the should or should I not kill him. I said it early on and I'll say it for this game as well. The Mass Effect Trilogy had some tough decisions I had to make. But the Witcher games I find those decisions tougher cause like with Olgierd I did not sense he was a bad guy, but when I heard his wife's story I wanted to kill the bastard. But then I saw how he got to that point and I said nah, I'll spare him. He was a desperate man who was losing everything. So yeah Regis and this vampire have me intrigued. I'm not going to replay these games right away but I intend to do so in the near future. When I do I will buy the books in TW2 and learn more about Regis, and see how the story pans out if I side with Vernon Roche. I also like the fairy tale look of Tousaaint. Velen, Novigrad, and Skellige had a dark and ominous feel to it.

I found all of the Grandmaster schematics for the Wolf armor, I had the Viper armor and weapons created before I started the Blood and Wine dlc. Got a letter from Yen telling Geralt about the location of a scientist doing research on Witcher mutations. Geralt went to his grave which then led him to the scientists laboratory. In it Geralt found out that the researcher's son was taken away and turned into a Witcher. Years later he tried to reverse the mutations but instead it made them stronger, giving the Witcher enhanced speed and strength. Geralt used the mutation the scientist created on himself and now has access to enhanced abilities. Found the contract giver who requested an escort. It was two men fleeing from a cave. They said there were monsters inside and their brother was still in there. Geralt agreed to go in for a price. He found the brother, he told Geralt that his brothers tried to kill them and a story about their father's last wishes. Geralt reclaimed the item the wounded brother needed. Outside the two brothers had brought some thugs. Geralt killed them all except the two brothers. The wounded third brother thanked Geralt and took his to humbled siblings with him. Well that's it for now. I am mainly gonna do the side quests and treasure hunts for now.

Well that's it for now. I am mainly gonna do the side quests and treasure hunts for now. This is also how I'm approaching the DLC. Vineyard Wars - complete, best result possible. Need to go back and get my reward. Corvo Bianco - fully renovated and decorated. Nice spare room in case a certain Lady Witcher decides to drop in on me when she gets tired of 2077. I am further mutated. Have freed several large Hanse's of their inhabitants lives. Lots of blood, bandits need killing. I am unhappy with level scaling in this portion of the game. Standard bandits, level 46... These assholes are tougher than city guards, could easily ransack Novigrad by themselves, yet somehow are just lowly bandits in Toussaint. Immersion breaking crap that they should have avoided - this is not an MMORPG. TW3 is better than DAI in every possible way, but it shares many of the same warts and inconvenience. Roach is an idiot a good half+ of the time. Eight inch wall between you and the road? Run a mile ti get around it, or just jump off your idiot horse and leap the wall in a single bound because Witcher power. God dammit. Anyways, minor gripes. They did a good job of adding enemy variety in this DLC but failed to include trash mobs as trash mobs. 1st world problem, just makes too much micromanagement. Manticore, Griffin and Cat diagrams complete, time to get my Wolf and Ursine diagrams and then I can have the grandmaster armorer build me some gear. Then I can go to the lake and pick up a special sword I guess I lost somewhere along the way, go to Velen to the Runesmith and have him amp up Iris, GM Wolf gear and Lady Sword, and absolutely destroy the story portion of the DLC as a demigod. Cheers!

Corvo Bianco - fully renovated and decorated. Nice spare room in case a certain Lady Witcher decides to drop in on me when she gets tired of 2077. How expensive is it to renovate and decorate Corvo Bianco? Because I tried getting some Grandmaster Wolf armor crafted, and some of the components I need are pricey. I did a small quest earlier in the dlc involving a character Geralt helped years prior, and the character had saved Geralt's monetary reward. He said since it's been years that the amount has gone up. When he said this I thought I got a small fortune. I said "I'm Rich!" So I go to the bank and everyone who worked there kept telling Geralt that he had to get a certain form, or that he had to see somebody else who worked at the bank. Eventually the owner a dwarf who was another old friend of Geralt says he apologizes but since Geralt was assumed dead the bank spent his money. So angry, Geralt demanded his money. Frightened the dwarf said to comeback in a week that he would have Geralt's money. I come back thinking of how sweet Geralt is gonna look in sweet Grandmaster Wolf armor wielding sweet looking Grandmaster Wolf swords. So I confront the dwarf and you know how much was the coin total? Not 15000, or 10000, 5000, or even 1000. It was a measly 500 Crowns. Man I wanted to slaughter everyone in the bank for jerking me around for just 500 Crowns.

In Velen, Novigrad, and Skellige Geralt is a beast. But getting killed by lowly bandits in Toussaint is annoying, and I agree Roach is an idiot. She always wanders off road when making turns. She cant climb to good neither.

I... am a well-known cheat and scoundrel. I liberally use >addmoney(100000) whenever I need to turn all of my level one runes/glyphs into level 3, buy whatever... This is my 4th run overall of the game, so F the economy is my answer to credit scarcity. This requires enabling the console, fairly simple edit. May not be your cup of tea, but money issues are gone forever. Also allows you to fix broken quests occasionally, like my bugged Curse of Carnarvon quest. I got the items in the wrong order which glitches the journal advancement necessary to complete the quest. This can be fixed via console, but the first time I have needed to use it in this way. Did not work in trying to spawn Letho, since my transferred save had the Letho glitch and I didn't talk to the dude and answer the questions As for special items for crafting GM gear... I can't recall what they are, but it may be a reason I've been hoarding flawless gemstones all game?

Man I wanted to slaughter everyone in the bank for jerking me around for just 500 Crowns. That was pretty much my reaction to the bank quest. Haven't done it since that first time.
You need 14K gold to fully upgrade the vineyard (yes, I made notes at one point). Other than Witcher gear, you should have a small fortune available in swords and armor that you can sell to the smith in Toussaint. He never seems to run out of coin. If he does, pop back over to the baron's old place to see whatsherface there. I ended up with a chest full of swords and armor that I didn't want to sell and still had coin enough for just about everything.
It might be too little, too late now, but I found that having the smiths craft the necessary ingredients (ex: making plate from bars, etc) was way cheaper than buying them outright. It may take more time but it was worth it to me.

That was pretty much my reaction to the bank quest. Haven't done it since that first time. Great minds think alike. See that's the thing I got conned by the runewright. First he wanted 5000 Crowns then 10000. Both times I gave him the coin. I raised the money by selling all of the extra armor and weapons I didn't use. The only armors I kept were the starter armor, Griffin, Ursine, Wolf, and Viper. I also kept both sets of the wolf and viper swords. You see since then I've been struggling with coin. I did make most of it back by converting some Orens and Florens into Crowns. But I spent most of it trying to craft my own components or just buying them.

Since I play the Elder Scrolls games I am used to using the console to fix quests. I'm not going to use it for this playthrough since it's my first. But I will use it for the second, third, fourth, etc. For the Grandmaster Wolf armor I need two pricey components 1) Slyzard Leather. 2) Dimetrium Plate. Both are very expensive.

Sounds like you are big on the Wolven Armor, but I'll point out that the Manticore has slightly lower crafting requirements anyway. The Manticore Armor is Geralt's armor from the TW1 for reference. Yeah, enemies get more damage spongy the higher up in levels you go. The Euphoria mutation is pretty OP tho, especially if you have Acquired Tolerance and Heightened Tolerance. Basically you need skills that boost max toxicity, and then after chugging a bunch of potions and decoctions Euphoria gives a damage bonus modifier based on Geralt's toxicity level. I always get it immediately after starting Blood and Wine, the next time I do a NG+ I'm going to try and force myself to try out other mutations. Haha. The only real downside for me when using Euphoria is Geralt walking around with his toxicity face all the time.

About that bank... That quest was heavily inspired by the Asterix & Obelix movie " The Twelve Tasks of Asterix". I remember seeing that movie (yes, I am that old) and thought it was funny. But I have to admit, I played it once and never again after that. About money... I like to keep special weapons and armor, but I am not an over the top collector. I sell most of the stuff in loot, but I keep anything related to crafting and alchemy. Except at the start of the main game, that makes me rarely run out of money. Yeah, I do the same as you with crafting.

Didn't do much yesterday started collecting the Manticore schematics as recommended by Blast Processor. I looked it up and it's one of the best armor and weapons in the game. I still want to collect all of the schematics for the various armor and weapon sets out there. Well that's all I did just started looking for Manticore schematics.

So, I am completing the Skellige deck as I type, about to do the tournament now that I have the 19 cards. On this journey, I had to visit a brothel The Madame wanted to play. I decided to gamble high, and won 100 crowns for my skill and effort. Being a person who believes fully in buying locally and investing in people, I spent that money well in her establishment, enriching the staff with crowns and invirile seed. Such is the life of a Witcher. Didn't like that my ho did a snifter of fisstech before we got down Anyways, only crafted the GM Wolven set, as this was my desire for the play. Will eventually craft all the GM sets, but damn it is a lot of enriched dimeritium plate! Regis must wonder what the hell is taking so long to check out that wight... Sorry Han Brolo, I've got serious business to attend to in Toussaint before I go chasing your friend.

So, for gods sake DragonKingReborn - heed my words. Do not, under any circumstance, undertake the evil that I have just done... for all of us. Consider it a curse lifted, by a certain Gleralt of NSevia. i have just save-scummed my way through another aggravating Gwent tournament, this time the final one, in Toussaint.
Google it if you need to understand the aggravations, I do not want to burden this thread with the stupidity of the quest design here it is well covered by Reddiots and others of similar bitterness.
So, this could be its own thread, but I decided that no one would care much beyond the participants of this thread, so I decided ultimately to share here for posterity.
I was drinking
I decided to continue my playthrough. I entered the Gwent tourney, and needed to pee because I was drunk and still drinking. Combated several opponents on the way to the tourney, was drunk on Viziman because it was similar to my ale. Got to my IRL toilet, kinda in panic mode as I had waited past the point of no return. Decided that kinking the fire hose was the wise idea, did so, raised the lid - and unleashed was the Kraken
Doom. I was a firehose of foulness. Good god.
So, my game paused so I could toilet, I proceeded to give my wife's toilet (that I had just desecrated) a thorough cleaning. One that apparently was long overdue. I will not give further detail - it was overdue. Holy Lebioada.
So, got that cleaned up. Realized that in my excitement and liberal use of sanitization, I may have fouled my cat's water dish. Took that to the kitchen sink, cleaned thoroughly. Filled to 90%, and my drunk ass - slipped the grip.
Yes, 2 liters of water are now everywhere on the kitchen floor. I am no less drunk, but I am amused now at a two time absolute mess I have made while my game was paused to take a leak. An hour of cleanup. Her toilet is spotless, the kitchen floor hasn't been so clean in months.
What did I do? I drank more beer, and won that godforsaken Gwent tournament and am done with this stupid game forever and ever and ever and ever and...
Fuck it, what do you say to a game of Gwent?
Calvin! You know I like you – unlike the rest of this lot, you've got a good head on your shoulders – but this thing about a panther... Seriously, lad? You've adopted a diddling panther? A few of our men came back to camp with their bums so bitten they'll have to doodoo standing up for weeks, and the very thought of going back on patrol has them shaking so hard their seams burst. This can't go on. Heard you've even gone so daffy as to give it a name. Hobbes the panther? You're completely off your nut, aren't you? Now concentrate, because I don't feel like repeating this. The lad who brought you this letter is carrying a hefty coin pouch. That's the lion's share (no bleeding pun intended) of the loot from our last job. The pouch is yours, but you take that overgrown kitty somewhere out in the wilderness and slit its throat. Simple enough? For the sum you're getting from me, you'll buy yourself two pure-blooded greyhounds and we can forget the whole thing. That's me being generous. Don't make me change tacks. Love me some Calvin and Hobbes. This Calvin however I gladly cut in half, sorry not sorry bro bro.

I got all of the Manticore schematics and had the armor crafted, but not the weapons because I'm missing some components. Blast Processor you were right it was cheaper to craft than the other armors. You were also right that it is the armor Geralt wore in the first game. I did two small separate quests involving 2 different Wine sellers, who want Geralt to clear a cave full of monsters so they can use it as wine cellars. I also did a quest involving a cow falling from the sky. Geralt found out that it was a small Slyzard with it's momma. Geralt killed both and got his reward.

Ah, the need for a proper save point in B&W DLC...
I cannot stand Princesses. Princes either for that matter. Anyways, it is a quick thing to have a good save point before talking to Flint Girl. This way you can get the "good ending" that I dislike, then go back and get to spend time pounding rocks for your sins - totally worth it and another cheevo to boot. Stood by principle, this is the ending I wanted to finish with.
Detlaff is my bro.
