Hmmmmm, if they're factions I wonder how many we're getting? At least three, I assume, and the Crows seem like a nailed-on certainty. Lord of Fortune for the third? Although I wonder if they'd want something more mage-y since even if they're not class-locked the Wardens feel more warrior and the Crows are obviously more rogue. maybe they'll do a magic one and Lord of Fortune as a more class-agnostic choice? All of which assumes that the class system still works the same way, which it might not for all we know. Oh yeah the Lords of Fortune i really hope they aren´t playable. As a Lord of Fortune companion would bit of a waste. I find them after especially Absolution uninspired & lame . I think Crow Mages or Warriors are theoretical possible but i see the Crows more as Rogue faction and therefore Origin. Same goes for Grey Wardens. I played many times as rogue Warden but if its only limited to Warriors which lets face it the overwhelming majority will play as human warden that´s ok.
Mage who knows but i want to point something out. It´s safe to assume that Grey Warden Origin would take place around Weisshaupt and the Crow Origin in Antiva. Two places outside of the presumably main setting aka Tevinter. I still think something Tevinter mages related does make the most sense but maybe this Origin could also take in place somewhere else like Nevarra?

If the Warden aspect is tied to an origin and Davrin is there (assuming he's a companion) it would be fun to see companions in other origins too. If you don't choose that origin you'd meet up with them another way but it would be neat to have a closer association to companions with camaraderie in a faction. They could pull off a Wynne instead of Jowan was cut as companion in DAO. But this would make sense. You get Davrin at bit early in the party than if you chose the Grey Warden Origin and other Non Grey Warden are getting at some event later. Same goes for Lady Crow and the Mage companion in the Mage Origin. That sounds like meeting the Scions in FFXIV. Depending on which city state you start in, you meet certain Scions first. When the 3 starting plot threads converge into the singular main plot, you meet the rest of them but you'd already know the one(s) assigned to your starting city. I suppose it's also like how in DAO, if you were a mage, Wynne remarks about knowing you in Ostagar.

If Rook is the new "Herald/Inquisitor/Pathfinder" term, I think it stand for the chess piece and not the bird or rookie. That means the Dreadwolf red document symbol was Solas and the PC instead of the major arcana Tower symbol which means major sudden upheaval.
Now the question is why your character is called that. The Inquisition/Grey Warden do not use chess metaphors for their members. It's not exactly a name to blend in either. And the only time I have seen chess titles for characters in other settings/series for people has been when there was Solas-like plotters using people like pawns.
I guess I'm winning points on my "we work for Solas" theory. But now I also have another crazier theory to go with it (see below). Unfortunately, the "it's a damn double Blight" theory is also winning points based on some new things I've been reading on Reddit (another playtester has been making comments, but no way to confirms they really playtested it and they are being very vague). Apparently, the darkspawns are the generic enemy like in DAO (in DAI that was demons). Also wrote that the game use Mass Effect combat wheel with a party of 4, but in his playtest only 2 companions you selected, the last party member was mission locked. Describe the combat as "Andromeda with melee weapons". That person also said that "grey warden" wasn't a class.
And now my crazier theory: The player character is a spirit who took shape and was named Rook by Solas...and Solas does what Solas does best very early: betray you. Ok that might be what he does 2nd best actually. What he does best is screw Thedas over with stupid plans...

I suppose it's also like how in DAO, if you were a mage, Wynne remarks about knowing you in Ostagar. Not really to be fair. Wynne has some unique dialogues but this isn´t the same as she would have company us in the Mage Origin. It would compare it more with the Mabari companion if you play the human noble Origin you get Dog pretty early on but the Non Human Noble have to wait a bit longer. But this is also interesting question if we are getting one companion each Origin does this mean we also get temp companions?

"Andromeda with melee weapons". I suppose it indeed isn't "Anthem with dragons", then. Still at that. Before anyone jumps down my throat, I know this is in no way confirmed outside of possibly NDA breaking leaks, at best, and wild fever dreams of fame seeking redditors, at worst. Still, my opinion of what I don't want and hope won't actually come to pass are all I have.

On the other hand, the rook bird do be belonging to the crow family and we know someone who uses fantasy crows. It could be a surname that the writers used because it can be connected to rookie, chess rook and spy bird.

On the other hand, the rook bird do be belonging to the crow family and we know someone who uses fantasy crows. That must be it. We'll be Baron Plucky reincarnated, going by a clever pseudonym. No one will see us coming.

Bravo Maestro i believe that no one else has make this connection so far.

People seem to be really upset about the combat. I am willing to bet that the strongest DA fans are those who really don't care about the combat so much as the world, the story, the narrative and dialogue and the romance options and stories.
If the lore remains strong and the story is good and I get to romance an elf then I am pretty much going to be happy regardless of the strategic aspects of combat or whether I have 57 varieties of attacks to choose from or one.

I must ask does it really matter if someone prefers story over combat then Dreadwolf is very likely mostly about combat and exploration? For example lets say the player had finished DAI with exact 100 hours. 60-70 hours are combat & exploration plus crafting and the rest is 30-40 hours story content. I see me more as a storyguy but i can´t say that i don´t care what i have to do most of the time.
Edit: But i bet the strongest DA fans are interested in all of DA elements even combat. Why have fans to chose something over the another part?
The second thing what the reason could be well its a PC vs Console or Old Bioware Fans vs New Bioware Fans. I am serious. I would argue that PC player seem to care more about those classic RPG stuff because they still see Bioware as PC dev studio because of their roots in the past. DAO is a PC game first and console ports as an afterthought. But with DA 2 the series is a more console series like Mass Effect. I think that many console players don´t like some parts of DAO well because it doesn´t work as on PC so it doesn´t surprise if they prefer elements from later games.

Nevarran Mortalitasi featured quite heavily in Tevinter Nights alongside the Crows and the Grey Wardens so my bet is that might be a mage origin. Obviously there is Tevinter Magisters but I think it would be fun to be a PC that actually while we're in Tevinter is experiencing it for the first time just like me

Ok this makes sense at first but does a Mortalitasi Origin also works for an elven or qunari protagoinst? I left dwarves out because they shouldn´t be an option in a mage origin.

It does seem like Rook must be the new name/title for the protagonist. I feel like that's something interesting BioWare could have told us to keep us excited without needing to do any marketing...but I digress. It might be a way of referring to us without giving up our identity, like something Varric calls us. I guess they must have had that name picked out a long time ago based on the red book (which was from Joplin times). Makes me wonder what else from the original Joplin vision ended up in the game.

I mean to be a Necromancer in DAI you were actually taught by a spirit possessing a jewelled skull you made, it apparently whispers you secrets which I thought was hella cool. Was actually disappointed it didn't sit on my desk in SKyhold but oh well. So that seems pretty inclusive. I don't see why they'd be like no go away if you're a different race but still call Nevarra home.

Qunari (Tal-Vashoth or Vashoth) would probably be rarer but they may still exist, as well.

It sounds a bit strange but to be fair Nevarra has to be one of the remaining countries which isn´t that fleshed out. I mean we don´t know what the Nevarrans think about Qunari and if they allow Tal Vashoth in their society. Also am not sure that they think about their elven citizens.

Hey don't take my word for it just look at what really gets commented on the most around here and certainly did for DAI. It's about companions, story, quests, etc. I remember the biggest kerfluffle's over DAI were not even remotely over combat but over quest quality or lack thereof. I did not even bring up pc vs console etc and wouldn't want to go there. I'm a pc player myself but I don't care what people play on at all. There have been ports of tactical rpg's to consoles however so I think even arguing over whether a console limits an rpg is moot these days. I do not think BioWare would commit to a combat style that favors a God of War approach to appease console players. Maybe 15 years ago but not today.

Hey don't take my word for it just look at what really gets commented on the most around here and certainly did for DAI. It's about companions, story, quests, etc. I remember the biggest kerfluffle's over DAI were not even remotely over combat but over quest quality or lack thereof. Why not a Dragon Age 3rd Person Shooter or something like Fortnite? Who cares as long as the companions are good... Then call it old vs new Bioware fans which is basically the same. You can called mainstream if you don´t like to use term console players. But more mainstream is also stupid. Why not a better & more improved version of DAI aka first DA4 version aka Joplin? DAI had been a sucess why the risk? Question: Have you played Dead Space? Ok the remake seems thank god to be a success-story but know what killed the series for some long time? Right Dead Space 3 which doesn´t want to be a Dead Space game any longer.
