I'm (planning to) romancing Gale with him, so far I've had the initial scene with the two of them...Astarion also came onto my boy earlier, but I turned him down. (Which is hard because I love Astarion, but I didn't want to do two runs where I romanced the same character ) Reminds me of my dilemma during my abandoned second playthrough. I planned on romancing Shadowheart but then I fell for Karlach all over again. Don't remind me of Karlach, I always feel so bad when I have to turn her down (Wyll too...he looks so crushed) speaking of which...I just had that scene where she first approaches you...I'm sorry Karlach, but this boy is interested in men...with beards
Gale for me was my second choice for romance, in hindsight he would've fit better with my first character age wise (she was a tiefling), whilst this character fits Astarion better (both are elves, and even if Astarion weren't a vampire they're both long lived races). But I kinda like making characters who initially don't seem to fit together. Like, my first character was a Nature Cleric...who should stand against everything Astarion is...Izz'daer is a Sorcerer, with who Wizards seem to have an eternal pissing match of who's better at magic
Though trust me...once I'm done with this boy, I'll likely keep returning to Astarion...I always seem to go back to the first romance I've picked in a game...well, not strictly true, in Dragon Age Origins my first romance was Alistair, and these days I tend to go for Zevran or none...figures xD

Don't remind me of Karlach, I always feel so bad when I have to turn her down (Wyll too...he looks so crushed) Oh I hated letting her down I almost reloaded. As for Wyll I too felt bad he looked devastated. I plan to romance everyone except Minthara don't know if I will ever bother recruiting her. As for second choice right now I would say Shadowheart but I still haven't seen everyone's. In Dragon Age my first romance was of course Morrigan I was a young hot blooded man back then and seeing her dressed like that finalized my decision. But every game afterwards it has been Leliana. Never tried Zevran but I know many like the romance.

I'm modding the heck out of the game right now, so far it's been by far easier than with any Bioware title (or maybe I'm just more experienced at this point). Making it easy for myself though by excluding any mod that requires to overwrite files, that can be such a can of worms and I won't do it no matter how pretty it could make me! Still undecided what to do for my Astarion romance, leaning towards either a tiefling sorcerer or warlock (although I did really enjoy playing Karlach, so barbarian is tempting). Saving Ranger I think for my Wyllmance. Also, I'm planning on banging anything that moves this time around (my OG was way too fathful to Gale to do anything fun), so Halsin is going to be my side piece.

Same...I want to try recruiting Minthara at least once, but I kinda want to reserve that for my Durge run who wants to give everyone second chances I might make a character who romances Karlach in the future, but I'll need to finish this playthrough first
I mainly bought Origins back in the day because of Alistair, I saw his character trailer and I found him cute, but nowadays I gravitate more towards Nathaniel...who sadly isn't romancable

So, I've modded and so far it's been going great, but one thing annoys me - how no hair is available for the smaller races. I managed to find a few facial mods and make them work, but there just isn't anything for the hair. Nada. Zilch. And I just can't fathom how it can be so hard to adapt to them as well since the regular hair seems to be able to (okay, I don't create mods so I shouldn't whine, but I can't help it). I really want to roll one of these races, but now that I have so many amazing hair mods I want to be able to use them damn it!

And those are only the ones, I have currently installed. There are more out there.
Here are some of my characters with hair mods:
Hair mixer (don't know, which two hairs - I think one from Honeys and Mintharas bun) with gnome:
Yves hair gallery with halfling:
More Hair Mod - Francesca hair on a halfling:
Honeys Kitchen (Swamp Bun, based off of Morrigans hair) on a gnome:
More Hair Ellie hair with dwarf:
Dreadlocks with dwarf:

Message from Larian to Xbox users: We’re aware that there is a save issue on Xbox that continues to linger throughout the holidays. It occurs when exiting the game after saving. The game thinks the save was successful but due to a firmware issue, the save file is not fully committed to disk yet. Microsoft is aware of the issue and is working on it but obviously during the holidays everyone is working at lower capacity so it may take a while before a proper fix becomes available. For the time being we can offer a work-around via the Larian cross-save system. 1. Create a Larian account at larian.com/account. 2. Go to the options menu from the main menu. Under gameplay, activate cross-saves, linking your Larian and Xbox accounts. 3. From now on, your last 5 saves will automatically be uploaded to the larian servers. It is important that you do not exit the game before the upload is finished. The upload is finished when the message “Syncing cloud save” is no longer visible. 4. If the firmware bug occurs, you will need to re-activate the cross-save functionality in the options screen. This will give you access to the save games that were successfully uploaded. We will make this process more fluid and extend the number of save games that get uploaded in the coming days. We completely understand that losing progress is frustrating, and unacceptable. We’re doing everything we can to ensure this problem - which we understand is unique - is resolved as quickly as possible, and we’ll keep you up to date with progress.

I've started a new character now, a tiefling sorcerer who is set to romance Astarion and Halsin and anything else that moves lol. She's going to be obsessed with magical artefacts and touch anything that looks interesting, and suffer the consequences of it. I'm playing on the second highest difficulty (I refuse to ever play honor mode lol, too much anxiety). I'll post a pic when I can, I think I'm happy with this one after having tried a ton of combinations. Now, for my third character I think (after you guys convinced me) I will roll a gnome durge ranger who will romance Wyll - she will try her best to fight against the evil she's inevitably drawn to, and I'll see where it goes from there. Thanks everyone who helped me find mods, I really feel hyped about starting over with them! Just praying that any sex-scenes with the gnome won't make me feel like I'm watching a child do kinky things...

I romanced Shadowheart with my halfling bard and now in honour mode Astarion with my gnome warlock/bard. The scenes look tasteful imo. I find it even more endearing, that the companions kneel down, to kiss you (and I'm romantic as a stone, I mostly do romances for story purposes).

I need to rant for a bit, because I love this game and company but this particular thing they could have done better: The recruitment of Minthara on a "good" run is broken. My first time playing I just killed her, not knowing she was a companion, but I wanted her this time. They said in the patch notes that youi just had to knock her out so I did - but now I discover that it's apparently super bugged and there's a big risk she won't show up at Moonrise at all. There's not even a way of consistently telling if you knocked her out correctly! Larian, ffs, don't tell people you fixed this when it's super buggy!
I'm currently debating if I should replay hours of progress to see if I can knock her out more correctly (not even sure how I do that) or just say fuck it and not experience her this round after all.

Players tends to break it by going back to that area after they did it properly because reloading the zone after sleeping wake unconscious NPCs (you need to knock out her out again if you do that).

Yeah, I couldn't because she just vanished... a friend of mine did the exact same, but when he came back she was up and he knocked her out again. Not sure why we had different outcomes doing the same thing, and that is what annoys me - that the interaction isn't clear.
So is she worth going back for? I just finished the Grove, so it's not an impossible backtrack, more an annoying one.

If she vanished, she ended up receiving lethal damage and she was dead and not unconscious. Even with the toggle on, you can "over damage" NPCs by trying to make them unconscious and they have like 1 HP, so anything that hit them, fall damage, etc can kill them afterward too.
As for if it's worth going back, you can have other issues later if you also recruit Halsin from what I read. She hits hard as a Paladin thought and I read she had some interesting moments, but I haven't tried recruiting her personally.

From Larian
"Microsoft have identified the cause of the save bug on Xbox, and will be issuing a firmware update to fix it!You'll be able to update your console manually on the 16th of January, or wait a week longer for the update to roll out globally"
"Although we haven’t been able to independently verify this fix, we’re optimistic that Microsoft have gotten to the bottom of it!"

Does anyone know where I can look to find builds that will survive Honor Mode but stay lore-accurate to the characters? All the ones I found so far have changed them drastically.

I've been playing a lot of BG3 lately. Started early January and I am approaching the 100 hour mark at this point (and I am in the middle of act 2). I gotta tell you, I had a very hard time getting into this game. As someone, who is not that familiar with the D&D universe, I thought the entry was not super well done. It's a similar problem I had, when making my first character in Cyberpunk 2077, who was a corpo. That is: The character you are making is thrown into the middle of a world, that he is supposed to be familiar with but I, the player, don't know anything about the world yet. So I am bombarded with a lot of weird stuff (alien mind flayers, dragon riders, a brief visit to a plane of hell, etc.) and a lot of lore specific terms and names and I was completely overwhelmed with all of it. It took me a particularly long time find my footing. I really had to force myself to play for the first 20 hours or so. I think as a result of the weirdness of it all, I also couldn't relate to the companions very well at first either. I think Larian would have done better (with D&D newbies anyway) to make the start of the game a little bit more grounded. Look at Dragon Age: Origins as an example. They also have a grand opening with the battle of Osthagar, where the shit really hits the fan but before that, they have origin stories and the little quest you do for Duncan as kind of a very grounded prologue that eases you into the world and slowly makes you , the player, familiar with some of the lore and the idiosyncrasies your character should know. This way - at least for me - I could identify much more with my Dragon Age character than I did with my BG3 one. Ok that was my rant about the beginning (and it's a pretty big issue IMO, I am surprised this wasn't mentioned more in the reviews when the game came out). After 20 hours though, I had found my footing and now, the game really shines. One big thing that kept me going (apart from my determination to play such a highly praised story RPG) was the gameplay. This is really surprising to me because I don't like isometric party RPGs usually. Never really got into Pillars of Eternity or the Divinity: Original Sin games for that reason and I didn't even finish BG1 back in the day. Hell, even the Dragon Age games, I usually play on easy difficulty, so I don't have to worry about the combat too much. But here, after some initial learning pains, I really started to appreciate all the possibilities. How you can interact with your surroundings is phenomenal and when you manage to choose your action really carefully in a turn to avoid damage or you drive the enemy into a choke point, you really feel clever. It's amazing that the gameplay was the part that actually kept me playing in those first couple of hours. And now that my party is approaching level 8 and I get more and more options and powerful abilities with each character, it only gets better. The characters and the setting, while I got used to it now, they are still not 100% my cup of tea though. But that's a issue I have with D&D, so it's not really a BG3 thing. I just do prefer fantasy settings that are a little more down to earth. Also, here and there, I find myself wishing for a dialogue option, which I think would make sense for my character now but isn't there (this is something where BioWare really did a great job usually, especially in DA:O as well). But I will say that the game mor than compensates by offering this huge variety of outcomes to any given situation. This is only my first playthrough, but even now, I can see how the reactivity of the plot to my choices must be huge. And also, the presentation is amazing. The amount of mocap, they have in there, even for little scenes is crazy. I still gape, when Gale counts something on his fingers or when Astarion uses a very particular handwave to go with his sarcasm. You can tell that those are all custom recorded animations and that's incredible. So yeah, can definitely see why this is the GOTY 2023 everywhere. I have my criticisms, but all in all, this is a lot of fun for sure and I'll certainly finish this playthrough and probably replay in the future as well. P.S.: Forgot to mention, I am playing this with the WASD mod, which allows you to play this on PC like a Dragon Age or Kinghts of the Old Republic game. In combat (or with a hotkey even outside of combat) it smoothly switches into the isometric game controls. Absolutely fantastic mod, if you want to feel a little more immersed while you are exploring. Can totally recommend it, wouldn't want to play without it anymore.
