I've encountered more errbears over the last few weeks and it takes awhile before a page loads.

Sometimes I get the errbears even when I haven't logged in under my username (for example just reading threads as a guest)

I use Microsoft Edge, based in the UK.

So the idea is, if you're currently experiencing the slowdown, try quoting and liking things in the experiment forum to see if the issue is there, as well. Ideally, when the forum "hangs" for you, jump into the other forum while it's happening and see if it loads normally or not. If one is hanging and the other isn't, it will confirm if the issue is specific to something we have here, if not help narrow down what it might be. I'm pretty sure the primary issue is what ProBoards identified, but I'm also somewhat convinced something here exacerbates it for some users.

I don't know anything about fiddling with plugins or anything, but I'm generally pretty good at following instructions, so if anyone wanted me to test one plugin at a time or something like that, it should be manageable. If someone with admin access here wanted to do something similar, that would probably make more sense (and I'll just delete mine if that happens, since it would be faster to stick with one.)

I'll add that I was affected by this latest hiccup as well.

I had a bunch of errors in a row, mostly when trying to load pages. I edited my data post which was the first big error, and when I checked, the edit had actually registered even though I was getting an error.

I've managed to identify one difference between myself and some people having the issue: Shoutbox.

I did mention it as a possibility in that other data dump, but it's buried in there so I'll suggest it for testing in a new post:

If you are having the issue regularly and you normally have the "Shoutbox" open, try minimizing it for the time being to see if that impacts your experience. It could easily just be some crazy idea I'm having, but if it turns out to be something, we might have a workaround for the issue, at least temporarily.

Huh.

So I've been getting slammed with the error ever since I stopped the experiment, just when posting or loading pages normally (no quotes or anything.) That does happen periodically when I'm on BSN, going back to the 2016, but the way that post above this one played out was weird.

I got the hang when I clicked "Post," so I just left it until the error popped up. Then I switched the tab to some other sites for a couple of minutes before trying to come back here. When I loaded in and clicked to the thread, the post had gone through, but it didn't say "five minutes ago," but rather "a few seconds ago," as though it had just posted when I logged in. No idea what that means, it just struck me as odd.

The shout box is worth considering, but people - myself included - are also getting Slowed on mobile, which obviously allows no Shouting.

Themes is an interesting idea. Might be worth playing around with that a bit. I remember way, way back, some Themes allowed certain choices and options, and some didn’t. Perhaps those little conflicts have grown into angsty teenaged glitches.

My Shoutbox has been closed since I got back. Forgot about it tbh. Don't think it's that.

Doubt it's themes but I do use a random DA one consistently. (I still haven't even finished DA:O, meheheh.)

There's also the weird extra page of smileys too. Maybe they're responsible?

That was an error message from my browser. As you can see, sometime later we are back again. Let's see how it goes from here.

Edit: Thinking about it some more: They probably rebooted the server after a change they've made. *knocks on wood*

I'm getting the "random" 502 Gateway Error thrown by cloudfare on Resetera now as well and not just here. The issue isn't client side (aka our browser) it's server side, but it could be anywhere between cloudfare and where ever those forums servers are hosted.

It could even be cloudfare even if they claims it's not them. Feels like a dying switch issue.

Since the last time I posted, I had at least seven 502 errors and several slowdowns.

It looks like the slowdowns increase in length and some 502 errors come twice in a row. I think that the severity has increased.

Some 502 errors replace the forum, others are weirdly portrait shaped popups generated using the site's look and feel.

What is worse, is that you cannot cancel the slowness by pushing the abort/refresh button, because in the background the server keeps on doing whatever it is doing that went wrong. This is even the case when you close the browser during slowness and then open the browser and BSN again. In that case you still have to wait on whatever caused the delay before anyway. Very annoying.

Helpful or not, my recent findings: When the browser hung and I got the 502, I pinged the server (Cloudflare, 104.19.222.132) and it worked just fine. However, I couldn't reach the HTTP 80. So I waited, and when the site became responsive again, I could both ping and reach the HTTP.

As Cloudflare is distributed to six servers in Canada and the US, I'm not sure what to make of this information.
