See, this is how I know you never actually read the article. FROM the article: "All of Keywords Studios’ unionized QA workers were laid off from the studio in late September after Dragon Age: Dreadwolf developer BioWare declined to continue its contract in August." It is literally the first paragraph in the article Did I notice any news articles regarding Bioware employee's last day. hmmm ... The article was entirely unnecessary, redundant, and unnewsworthy, given that the layoffs were announced in August. The employees' last day was superfluous. Polygon knowingly posted a clickbait headline of old news. Incorrect. If a business no longer wishes to hire a specific voice acting company for their game does that mean those voice actors no longer have a job at that voice acting company? Of course not. And there's many examples of this happening. Just because the contract between Keyword QAs and Bioware wasn't renewed doesn't mean the contract those QAs had with Keyword was always going to be terminated. It is a further development of the news we received in August. The news in August was about the relationship of those two companies, and the news in september about specific people's relationship with their agency. They could have very easily been sent out from Keyword to another company to do work there. There are a number of possibilities, one of which is those particular QAs were contracted specifically for the work at Bioware (Keyword is made up of full employees and also people they grab just to make up contracts), another possibility is after the contract between Keyword and Bioware ended nobody would enter into a contract with those QAs. In any case if you think this news was redundant then you obviously read too much into the news we received in August.

Another round of layoffs in canadian gaming studios. Along with Ubisoft and others it hits also EA Motive. Steven Cheung: "Well, pretty much my last day at Motive Studio. Had to say goodbye to the Team on site today, and it was bittersweet as it's an incredible team. Working together on Dead Space Remake was a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for me as a professional and a gamer and I'm very grateful for that. And shoutout to the BioWare team on Dragon Age 4 with whom I've worked for the past year! It feels like I was adopted by both teams aha See you in 2 weeks for the new step in my career as a VFX Artist!" www.linkedin.com/posts/steven-cheung-550956b9_well-pretty-much-my-last-day-at-motive-studio-activity-7120889914103066624-gzu9?trk=public_profile_like_viewJeez. Dreadwolf needs more not even less devs. But it kinda news for me and somewhat interesting that Motive (to be fair those devs are like former Bioware Montreal one) is or has been supporting Dreadwolf development aka besides Dead Space Remake and Iron Man they have room for it.

It's really sad that this is how we get to learn that EA Motive is supporting development of DA Dreadwolf.
I hope Cheung gets a new job quickly.

Next time they should cut is salary instead of dev. Nitendo is a good exemple. Nintendo is a japanese company with japanese execs but EA is american and their mantra is if you are not absolutely greedy as manager you are labeled as failure.

Lay off people who do the work so there's more money for the suits who talk about work.

This right here is the main reason, I'm hesitant about the game. Buying it means helping those douchebags. Theoretically we should all just not buy the game until they change work ethics. I'm so done with those shitty AAA companies.

But i will not buy DA5, if they don't have enough good writer.

Jackdaw was referencing it in his video and mentioned CEO salaries, so when I saw this I thought it was about how much EA had earned and not how much they were paying their executives.
Can't really say I am that bothered. Of course the financial movers and shakers are going to give themselves more money and they are the whole reason these companies exist in the first place so also pretty important to their continued existance.

I'd say both things are true...you need good executives and strong leadership at the top who always seemingly make too much money in the eyes of us little people...simultaneously you need to retain your subject matter experts or you hurt your product (the best companies and execs understand this). It's the difference between short term profits and long term health. I don't know enough about the specifics in this matter but the ones that bother me are the Mary Kirby(s) who have been loyal employees for decades...that's the type of thing that leaves a bad taste in my mouth.

Sure, both sides are needed. But if one side fires the other and then makes profits that would have easily sustained them all, I 'm a bit miffled tbh. And we should talk about it and make it known. I was happy, that Swen Vincke from Larian addressed this problem, that is pretty widely spread in the gaming industry during the award speech.
I'm also glad, that there is a topic for this on the forum of the company, that is affected by it. Spreading awareness is a good thing.

Petition to hire some elite crew of hackers to take $30 million from the bank accounts of EA executives and redistribute it to the employees they laid off.
The problem with boycotting The Veilguard is that if people don't buy it the executives responsible will shrug, close BioWare down and fire all the rest of the employees, give themselves another $30 million dollars and learn nothing. (Which is not to say anyone shouldn't make that decision for reasons of personal ethics! But I'm not convinced that it would achieve much even if it worked.)

This is the kind of shit that really irks me. The rich get richer and the ones who put in time and effort can barely afford to put gas in their vehicles. How can people make so much money while most of us can't afford shit? These poor writers and creative minds being taken advantage of like usual. This is where I don't want to support the greed but I want to appreciate the work. Uggghhhhh.....

I keep hoping that EA will decide it wants to solely focus on sports but that it's other games companies, the ones that are successful, can be spun off into independence or sold.
So we need Veilguard to be successful for that to be the best outcome. Personally I am not against a free-market but I think the problem in the west is, and especially, most especially the United States, is that a whole class of the population has been convinced that you cannot tax or regulate big corporations or they will stop job creation. This is a base canard and has never been true anywhere. Quite frankly I think the reason populist movements are springing up is because people realize they are being gouged by the top corporate execs.
I do not want the free market to go away. It drives creativity and encourages innovation. However it is desperately in need of regulation/refereeing and government oversight on behalf of workers and consumers is still the best way of achieving this balance. There is a lot of corruption against us however and corporations are able to hire whole reams of lawyers and buy judges and elected officials to stop us. That's got to change.

I'm so done with those shitty AAA companies. Buy it on Steam or on retail and give the EA suits a smaller cut ... (30% less?).
