colfoley, I doubt you need to worry about posting spoilers. Only two of you here are playing for the first time. Plus, this is the spoiler thread. You should be able to post freely. For armors, I imagine your ideal armor will eventually be the same as mine -- the Nora Thunder Warrior. It heavily boosts ranged weapons. That's not just bows, either; it's every ranged weapon, which is nearly everything. It also boosts Stamina and Valor, so my three big combat needs are addressed directly. I often drop a stealth related weave from the Burning Shores into it to duplicate the feel of Zero Dawn's stealth weaves. Transmog should be standard in these types of games. I love being able to both optimize and play dress up when I want. 😄

Continuing on with my hunt to meet bac up with Telanah and I just got there.
Got another Rebel Outpost on the way and another recon drone.
I think I've found my next Sharpshot bow. It has three arrow types, and plasma.
Main set piece of the night took on a level 42 fire thunderjaw or something like this. I swear the Boltblaster the 'empty magazine into enemy' does seem to only be a short range ability. I did stay at range and tried using it and it didn't seem to really do any damage. But staying at range did prove to be a good tactic and the bright thing about it being so large is I was able to hit its weak spots really easily and burst its bubbles. Though the machine designs in this game are nuts.

So I have had a bit of a bad habit in this game of not always going around and restocking when I have the option from my stash. So deep in the wilds, doing Need to Know, was really running around 'the Rot'....well when I got in there. And boy these Tenakth were a bit on the annoying side as they had a couple of them running around that was on Aloy like white on rice. But out of an over abundance of pique I went in and used my first heavy weapon for the first time today in concerted combat. Which helped. I had them down to like two people, but then they nocked me down to zero health berries, even had to use a health potion. But then it was not over despite everything the last of the Rebels summoned a friggin machine on me, one of those colasal tide thingies. Which was fun to do actually. Sometimes within high stress moments can be the most exhilierating because you have to focus on the game to push on through it. WHich I did. Didn't even need health as it turns out. From there, well. Need to Know (side quest)So Nessa ended up being revealed as becoming Tenakth, Rittaka. I only post this because it is quite an interesting look into Tenakth society how they can accept people from other society's. You just have to 'die' first to be reborn.
Other fun thing about this reveal is that she was having to hide her identity because the Carja didn't appreciate women and let them in their military...but now she is having to hide her idntity, at least after a fashion, all over again. From there I so totally cheesed a group of Clawstriders because I found a way to top of a boulder and was just raining arrows down on the three of them. Took awhile but the Sharpshot bow was doing its thing. Also in a fight shortly there after I got the final stuff I need for the Sharpshot bow I found on tha tone time...but that will be for tommorow I guess. As well as having trouble bouncing off and around one of those recon drones. I did get it, and in the process discovered that the glide thing does make a great way to avoid fall damage. SOmething to keep in mind...if I don't break my controler first.

colfoley, the Boltblaster is definitely a close-quarters weapon. It has a very, very short range, as do Warrior Bows. Have you been to the Arena, yet? A lot of the best gear is to be found there. It's also the earliest access you get to Legendary gear.

It's also the earliest access you get to Legendary gear. No I haven't, I'm pretty sure. *** So this game is started to get a little grindy for me. Or at least how I play it, or at least the RNG aspect of it. Trying to remember what else I had done but the main set piece...oh yeah wait. So first off I wrapped up some of the stuff I wanted to do last episode. Fun thing from video games in general, they're not over until they're over...and sometimes even then. But went to go pick up the Nora Valiant suit and well...pretty good stats. But the look. By far the best looking suit of armor in the entire game so far. Even got my first photo mode pic of it which I just may share one day running around. Big set piece though, at least at first, was going around to get the material to pick up the Very Rare Sharpshot bow...with the plasma and pretty sure the explossive tear arrows from the first game. So off to hunting down the Thunderjaw. Found one and another machine that is more...well machine then animal. But pretty good fight. Level 42 so I had to run around on the thing but I got it in the end;...then stood on its corpse. Didn't have what I needed. So I decided to wait around and didn't work. The next thing though put the game to bed for the night and then when I reloaded...it was back. Second attempt workked a lot better so I was able to actually get the thing. Plus been practicing more with long range ammo and different weapon types. Used a blast sling on a group of machines at range with the cluster bombs and it was hitting multiple of them at the same time. Picked up my new bow, went along to the base to get caught back up with my companions... Then did the quest 'breaking even'. Which is where I think I stopped for the night. The Earth breaker thing was quite intense of a boss fith and probably amongst the two most annoying bad guys I've faced so far but just towards the end got it down about 2/3rds health and it popped up, I was ready with the bolt blaster. Given the size of the thing its not the most mobile piece of hardware in the world either.

Oh noooo! Varl! I may not entirely have remembered you when I first started the game but still sad. At least his death made for a couple of nice mournful scenes. Poor Zo.
Loved the conversation with Tilda. Great VO by Carry-Ann Moss and great mocap there as well.
Finished Regalla's rebellion but let her live. Still hoping for a Loghain kinda situation there. We'll see Flew around a little and did the last quests and collectables, that required the bird. I don't know, the flying could have been done better, I feel. I think it isn't even that the bird is too slow, I think it's the animations. They feel too static. Would have been better if the flapping or gliding were dependent on whether you are trying to gain altitude or you're loosing it. And speaking of which, it would be cooler if we gained more speed while in a dive and if the bird would tuck in it's wings in a little, to really give you the feeling of using the aerodynamics to your advantage. It's those little things, that make flying feel good or boring to me. Also, I do now get some LOD popins when flying low. All in all, the fact that you can fly is cool but it does feel a little tagged on without a lot of polish. Also, Sylens, my man:

Also, Sylens, my man: *clicks on it expecting to see a picture.* SHit I forgot about that. lol. As for my adventures though bit of an extended play session today. And well ugh...hate extended sessions when trying to relay it all. But right now one of my absolute favorite things about this game is how the thematic story beats from the Old One and their war against the Machines which then it matches up with what is happening within the present day. Mind you there is also the definite insinuation and the key difference does bring a lot of nuance to this whole thing. Because the past is scrweed, so there is a very definite tragedy to almost everything you read and hear. Aloy says it at one point 'another sad ending'. And yeah...all the endings in the past were sad ones. And then in the present there is a lot of these quests that end in obvious tragedy or has tragic backdrops to them...BUT...there is still hope at making a better world. Of learning from the mistakes of the past, that Elizabet even made and forge a new future. Heh. There goes the whole thing with Ted Farro screwing us again. But then this is especially pognant given what I DO remember about the ending. Next up though really liking the rumor system. Seems you can just keep on going back to the rumors over and over and over again to reup and get more information and it seems the information gets more specific over time, as now I have upgraded to side quests. Don't know where this goes from here and how often this will come up but the next thing to is now my companions back at the base are also giving me rumors and reminders of quests and stuff. The ominious note about this is the game is REALLy pushing me to get back to Vegas to check in on Morlund. I am starting to think either mandated tragedy will happen or that the quest is on a time limit and if I do not check in...well the dream of Vegas will fail. Oh well after I deal with the Tenakth...
And also kind of appreciate that the side quests is giving me new weapons and concepts to work on, granted they mostly suck but right now I have a shield trip caster...which I need to play with. Hmm. Still. Think I finally got around to practicing with the new Sharpshot bow. Though a lot of this hunting did lead to my real big down for the game...my goodness if this isn't a grind trying to get everything. That and the save system is pissing me right off. But the tear arrows are indeed the same ones from the first game, though they seem upgraded in terms of graphics and sound effects. Still super effective...and still a mega resource sieve to. Speaking of which its kind of weirdly funny how the crafting for this stuff works. I was in the base getting ready to craft a whole bunch of FT packs and discovered in doing all of this that it seems to have come from your total pack. My several thousand ridgewood and several hundred wild meat went to giving me the 50 FT packs that I will be needing for the next phase of the game. Hopefully the last time that I have to do it. But then when I got out into the wild I discoverd that despite looking like it was coming from my inventory in total...it actually took from my in world pack. So when I headed back out into the wilds I discovered that I didn't have any Ridgewood. Plus from here the grind set really began. Though I did stumble onto some rollerbacks which I needed but then had to run around and find geese in an area that says there were geese in the area...but there didn't seem to be. Took me...well awhile before I got one and then it didn't have the crafting mats I needed. The second one did the trick and I rushed in to skin it right in front of a Spikesnout and then rushed out away from them all. Side note to another thing...well it may be inconsistent now that I am thinking about it and its been helpeful a couple of times to but really there should be no reason that machines should respawn that quickly. I sat through like three different waves of them looking for my damn geese. Midn you I guess on the other hand if they didn't do it it would make having to hunt for these mats and deal with the RNG a bit more annoying to. But so frustrating when a group of machines just keeps popping up draining your resources. Went to the Memorial Grove and discovered another merchant out there that will take your 'black boxes' you find in the world and trade it in for super advanced crafting mats. Nice. Now something else to do. Signal Spike (Side Quest): So the first mission on the note...Signal Spike. Finding an ancient transmission left from the Old World.
The twist here though was that, well, woman left message in a supply cache for husband. Likely insinuation is husband never got it and wife died in the delivery, more then likely. Which just matches the story though because the Oseram we got the quest from also lost her brother. The wife/ husband had problems but the wife promised that, as the end came, she'd only remember the good things. Perfect lesson for the Oseram to learn and begin her healing process. Drowned Hope (Side quest)
sad quest number two of the day. Soldiers working on a weapon and trying to do their damndest to protect it falling one by one to the Faro Plague.
With a Faro rep in the last one saying something really bitchy and then getting instant commupance. Felt good but then, lack of nuance I suppose.
The Broken Sky Think this quest name is the most on the nose for the entire game.
So off to the Tenakth I go and to Hekarro. Who has me essentially running off to do errands for him in order to gain access to the...second to last of the AIs I need. Aloy actually does the whole Paladin 'I am not a hired killer' thing.
The first big part of this though is that I go off with the man with one arm that I know is future companion bait. His voice sounds really familiar and he is really cool as I get to follow him around everywhere.
Second big part of it Aloy does her usual very direct approafch to things but in this case I really have to admire it.
So its revealed earlier that the Rebels have been gathering machines. Machines with canons.
The Tenakth are hiding behind a wall waiting for the situation to resolve itself before coming out. Their chief will not move unless the wall sounds.
So what does Aloy do? Blows up the wall and knocks it down. THis is pique Aloy chutzpah but man if its not glorious in this case. We even get her to call the guy a shit. I still worry about the long term repruccussions of leaving them effectively defenseless, but I guess according to one armed, if I heard right, they would be forced to move on. And ultimatley it sounds like a good thing since everyone agrees with me and the guy does seem like a big jerk.
Still quest line is off to a good start.

Still quest line is off to a good start. Sorry man, I hoped putting a spoiler tag on it in the spoiler thread would be enough. But yeah, could have been an image, I guess. By the way, you probably already know this but you can buy mats for crafting at vendors. I think it's the alchemists/potion vendors, who usually have all animal mats, you need for pouch upgrades. I also started hunting but at some point, I thought it was too much and I just bought the rest of the stuff. In terms of game progress: At the end of the day before yesterday, I parked Aloy in fron of "the Base" with the intention to do (what I assume is) the final mission last night. But then I spent over 1 1/2 hours just chatting with everyone in the Base and running around (also finally found "the vault", nice little gimmick). By the time I was finally ready to start the mission, it was 11pm already and I figured I'd better go to bed and leave it alone. Will hopefully get to it tonight then.

Finished the main game. Beware story spoilers: The last mission was quite the spectacle. I was wondering if they'd manage to keep the world essentially the same after the ending but hey, being forced to free Hephaestus again made good sense. The final boss fight felt very much like "we have to include a final boss fight" tagged on but whatever. Overall, I'd say the story was good but of course it doesn't quite have the same impact as Zero Dawn had with it's big earth shattering discoveries. But it was a decent continuation that made sense for the most part, so no big complaints. Though the fact that it wasn't a natural disaster but the Zeniths themselves who destroyed their own colony was not really a twist, that was clear as day from the start. Now looking forward to Horizon: Nemesis. By the way, was thinking, how long do you think Aloy & company have till Nemesis shows up? Tilda has a line where she says its original plan was to deny the Zeniths safe harbor on Earth, so it sent the extinction signal. According to her, it only started the real pursuit when it realized that this plan to sterilize Earth had failed. So, when was this? Was it when HADES failed to take over GAIA entirely 20 years ago? It kind of must have been because if it were only at the time HADES was defeated at Meridian, then Nemesis would only learn about it in about 7 years. Ok, so let's say Nemesis learned about HADES' failure 8.6 years after GAIA's suicide. Let's also assume it started sending the extinction signal 8.6 years before this date. That would also have been the date when the Zeniths left. I think Aloy is supposed to be around 20 years old at the events of Zero Dawn (so say 1 year older during Forbidden West). Allowing for an extra 9 months of gestation for Aloy in Cradle E9, that means, it took the Zeniths 8.6 + 0.75 + 21 years = 30.35 years to get to Earth (let's round that down to 30). Assuming that Nemesis has their technology at its disposal and can build space ships almost immediately with machine printing, it would have left around the time of Aloy's 8th birthday. If it can travel with just the same speed as the Zeniths, it should still be 17 years away. However, of course, we don't know at what speed it can travel. Could be that speed for the Zeniths was limited because they had to preserve their human bodies and therefore had g-force constraints. Could be that Nemesis refined propulsion technology. Basically, as far as I can tell, it could show up at any point in time int he next 17 years (17.2 to be exact, just the 8.6 ly distance times two again, that it took for Nemesis' signal to travel to Earth and the information of HADES' failure to travel back again). Anyway, I am off to the Burning Shores now. just did the intro yesterday. The tropical/volcanic landscape looks cool on first glance. Will nee more time to explore though.

Well done on finishing the main game, I liked it to, but it never had the same emotional grab on me that Aloy's original game did in regard to her and to the discovering of the world state and its origins. EDIT: sorry no idea re the timeline of Nemesis except it is not bound by any rules at all that I can think of in regard to human frailty and perhaps not even having to build a spaceship. Burning Shores for me had its highs and lows, enjoy.

If it had the ability to send itself via datastream, it would have been on earth 8.6 years after leaving Sirius, so it would already have shown up some time around Aloy's 17th birthday, 3 years before the events of Zero Dawn.

Maybe not a Data Stream but it could just be like a data module inside a sphere travelling at a really high speed. I don't remember any discussion of its physical form if it has one.

Right, that is absolutely possible. I would still consider that a space ship though. But yeah, as I said above, I think it could show up at any time the writers want it to.

Whic hi sgood as it's been a tleast 2 years sinc eI'v eplayed Origin san d2 I think what I enjoyed most about Forbidden West were the character moments. The friendships with Varl, Erend, Zo and the others were developed really well in the end (in the beginning Aloy was a little too aloof for my taste). Some really good dialogue there. And oh my god, some of those conversations towards the end were done so well, absolute master class. Highlight was IMO the breakfast with Tilda. The mocap with lot's of little gestures and subtle body language combined with the excellent VO of both Ashlay Burch and Carrie-Ann Moss was amazing. Plus, the ending was probably one of the most impactful dialogue lines that I have heard in a game in a long time. It's when Aloy shuts Tilda's initial plan down and then calls Beta her sister. That moment has been built up so well throughout the game with the complicated relationship that Aloy and Beta had, all the frustration, the eventual understanding and Aloy finally sharing with Beta what Rost meant to her. That moment, when she calls Beta her sister is very cathartic. So yeah, the actual story may not quite hold a candle to ZD but it's super well done on the character moments.

The KulrutKind of effective as set pieces go that. Aloy defended a the Kulrut from a bunch of machines...and then I got the idea that this was a distraction since there were no humans in the thing. I ended up being half right as they just burrowed under ground and then infiltrated that way. It was at least half clever and Aloy had to fight off another one of those snake things.
Just then it got weird because Regalla is facing off against Aloy, Ketallo, and Hekarro, Aloy has a bow...she is in the middle of nowhere...talking about how she is going to escape and take her revenge with even more machines...and no one shoots her? Hekarro even hangs the most annoying of lanterns on it by mentioning 'should have dealt with her' that's twice buddy.
Next part to Aloy gets Minerva which restores all the holos. We get a nice speech of the Ten and...I assume the President of the UNited States?
Not always up on my Horizon lore but given everything that happened in this speech and the enviornmental stuff, almost get the feeling the US fought a Civil War? WOuldn't surprise me and its not that unique...but it is interesting. Because while this speech sounded properly inspiring and related to what was going on in the modern age with Aloy...implications were kind of unpleasent because she called the people 'Marshals' and then put them in charge of the South West? Military dictatorship?
Anyways though from there goes back to the base and Aloy checks in with Beta. She name drops Tilda and we get more set up for that little potential plot line. And then she starts to freak out because ALoy starts being a little tough on her...which is interesting because Aloy is starting to come off as being a little unlikeable in a lot of the things she is doing here. Though it is kind of awkward because its like 'maybe Tilda can help...nevermind she is like them all', just a weird way to introduce that plot point. And from there went back to Vegas to check in on Morlund and he went me going after something he needed for a hot air baloon. ANother environmental puzzle which involved me bouncing off of the walls and the floor that I had hit before so it took me awhile. It was going fine...then we got into a storm so we're in trouble now.

So today was a real comedy...errors isn't exactly the right word. For the most part I had fun. I will admit the puzzles are starting to wear me down though. Tempted to bull rush the rest of the game from here. Anyways though up first faced down my first Storm Wing of this playthrough and those things are still brats to fight. But then when I did shoot it down for some reason the objective to talk to Morlund was stuck right in the middle of the thing's wing. So me and he were talking at one another with the metal in the way and it even started...'twitching'. Bugs can be funny. Next thing though went back to Vegas and looked into Sternlunds errand and fell down the damn shaft again. Think I missed the elevator or something. But anyways it was funny because I did want to test out if I could glide down there, and I discoverd I could, but the sequence took awhile because I started falling...pressed the glide button...hit a beam before it could deploy...all the way down...it was like weee...oof! But then the quest did more of that puzzle thing and looked up a vid to solve it and instead got the access code for the door. Which worked. The Ornmanents are a neat little collectible which allows you to change the lights of Vegas. Though I didn't rcognize the other holiday other then Christmas. Now off to getting hunting ingredients for one of the cooks up far north. I tell you the biggest impediment to eating the food is its not worth it exacltly to go out of your way to get the stuff and the passives it gives you aren't exactly that powerful to begin with. Biggest thing is an extra thing of health for a boss if needed, I still like the mechanic and HOrizon probably has done the best I have yet seen, but could still use some work.

Yeah that' sthe main issue with Forbidden West. Don' tget m e wrng it's a grea tgam ebut a ttimesi tdoes feel unneccesarily long to the poin tyo ujus twantt oget to the end. That's the main reason why I mad ethe call t o not go fo ra secon drun straightaway an dcom eback later and pla yagain. I do lik ethe game it just drags a little a ttimes.

Bleck.
So hunted down the ingredients for the food I needed. And I had to hunt down five seperate bird nests of bird eggs. Like couldn't hunt down five eggs from a single nest which I am pretty sure that is how that would work. And the food was automatically given to me and I have no idea what it does. Though the next meal was for free so that did help take the sting out...and bought one more.
Off to the Standing Snetinels wanted to do a tallneck...ran into THREE Stalkers on the way.
Then I bounced off trees trying to get to the top of a tallneck...and just gave up. *shrug* I swear the controls of this game starting to think deliberatley wonky.
