Yeah the one from Boomer is a "Boomstick", I can't remember how good that first one is, there are better ones you can get but give it a go. I found Spears to be one of the best weapons in the game. Also do you have a Blast Sling, a sling with Explosive Ammo they are pretty good as well but you need to be a bit closer. Frost is super effective to at least stop machines so you can then blow them up with a sling or damage them with anything. The Boomstick was the winner. I died one more time, then gave up on the Heavy Weapon that had detached from a machine and focused on The Boom. Worked pretty well, really. Aloy was barely even touched. Beta is...a little anxious, it's fair to say. I get it. Her life has likely been...awful, but the level of dread she expressed when she discovered Aloy didn't have HEPHAESTUS yet was extreme. I'm sure it'll make sense a bit later on, though. Fixed up a Tallneck that had been damaged by bringing it down with anchors fired from ballista, and cleared a few machine spots. Made it to the location for POSEIDON, which is something I think featured in either the marketing or in a video that popped into my feed before I got the game. I haven't interacted with the two guys there yet, but I'm sure I remember seeing this exact spot. The Spears are great. The Poseidon crew are great, they are tied to the Relic Ruin stuff though so if you want to fully complete their story you'll have to do all those puzzles and there was one I just could not do. You get a cool piece of gear from them as well which will un-gate some things.

Ugh. Bit of rants incoming. So first off turns out that I actually did clear out all the rebel outposts. Just that for some reason the one at the Deadfalls does not actually count...nor did it really trigger a trophy like much of the other things this game does. So yeah bit of a minor annoyance and then continued onto Gemini. And yeah, the save system. Have really held my tongue up to this point but its the one persistent flaw of this game that I just can't forgive. The lack of ability to manually save the game is the one thing that does tend to really put back the vast majority of the good things this game does. So situation, got through gemini, just did an optional objective, remember I am about to face off against a really long arse cutscene...and it didn't auto save. Maybe I could've just redone everything I suppose but even then. Forgot it was THIS long. Half hour of some...admittedly interesting exposition. Still ugh ain't nobody got time for this. Anyways...onto GeminiThis mission for the above was quite heavy, although in kind of a very straightforward way. Again did know some of this was coming spoiler spoiler... So pretty much all of this quest was hunting through Hephastus through the Cauldron we were in fighting machines all the way. More on my end of being an idiot admittedly but I continue to have a really bad habbit of not restocking at my stoarge things. So I was a little bit resource consious throughout most of this quest. Which I am really happy with how much my tactical appreciation has grown throughout this game if nothing else. I really like how I have learned that lightning arrows can knock down machines to set them up for critical strikes, even multiple times for the same battle apparently. Of course its not the only tactic at my disposal as my new Frost Arrows on Asera's Legendary Bow also really came in handy. But the coup I pulled off is I was like 'oh wait I forgot I have a frost bolt blaster'...on the final machine that I was facing in the area, a real mean level 45 one. It had about half health abd I was able to get in in one complete burst. From there though things took a turn for the dark. Though kind of a question on how things went from there. Kind of going into the Tilda conversation a little but...well we were supposed to be able to merge Hephastus and Gaia within 4.5 hours...we had a montage basically which implies a bit of a time leap happened...but then the Zeniths showed up, killed Varl, etc...but then Tilda suggested that the ruse did not work at all and they were keeping an eye on Hephastus. So why didn't they just show up at the beginning? Now also during the convo with Tilda later she did mention that they were still merging Hephastus and Gaia so maybe it wasn't all that much time, but at the end of the day it had to have been some time. \ And the Tilda conversation was quite interesting...telling she was a spy at some point as well. I get the feeling private sector and not for the government. But also interesting juxtoposition with Aloy here and also Lizbet. This does remind me so much of the whole Zero Dawn thing in the first place. But knowing Aloy, knowing Lizbet, she probably felt the same exact way making the same call on Zero Dawn. How much Dr. Sobek had to love life and yet it was already too late to do anything about it. She had no choice but to play the sacrifice game. Though I will admit it is a little troubling she was thinking about an AI super computer like Gaia even before Gaia became a neccessity...you know...monitoring the biome through the use of AI...because THAT sounds like a good idea and in a interesting way sounds like some of the stuff Tilda said the Zeniths were up to.

The lack of ability to manually save the game You can manually save at every camp site and supply depot. And, unlike the first game, there isn't a 10 save limit this time.

I need to get back into Horizon Forbidden West soon. But right now I'm really enjoying Ghost of Tsushima....I am interested in reading up on the real-life history of the actual event that inspired the game.

I found the auto saves were pretty frequent too, I can only remember one incident where it hadn't saved for a large amount of time and even the Cauldrons were very generous, thank the gods.

Collected POSEIDON.
That was quite good, actually. The delvers/actors were amusing and the breather apparatus is an excellent boost. The stealth underwater is forgiving enough, considering how uncoordinated Aloy is while swimming. Have decided to pause the main story and clear a few side quests from the log. Got done with the Eclipse one (which has been sitting there for quite a while) and now looking for the 'Nora Huntress'.

Do you mean the side quest "Need to Know", I don't remember one about a Nora Huntress. That's a good quest if that's the one you meant and you'll catch up with someone from the first game. Worth doing the side quests for the XP and resources and most of them are fun to do. As soon as I finish DAI, hopefully today or tomorrow I am going to start a new PT on NG+.

Yeah, can't recall the name of it specifically at the moment, but it does mention someone from the Aloy's past, I think, in the quest description. Haven't actually reached the location for the start of the quest, yet.

One of those things where if I don't get to this now its going to be a really long post later and since I am going in on the end game I will probably have a lot to say and debating on how I will say it for the final 'review' of the game. ANyways though after my admittedly rough time...well...first of all. Aftermath to GeminiSo must say it was a little cliche here Zo being all like 'I'm with child and I never told Varl' but it was handled really well, the back country behind the base is rather pretty looking. Also Errend was quite concerned for good ole Aloy as well, kind of endearing really. I must say there is one other thing I have been sitting on for a little bit now as well, Alva has the Oghren problem. Introduced way late in the game so you don't really get to properly know her and she seems to have a lot of fascinating insights into a lot of things, but has a lot less dialogue then a lot of her peers throughout the rest of the game. The Quen as an organization is just so fascinating in how they view things with the Ancesestors and how things come out about the past. But there is just so little of it. It does help with the theme though and some nuance of what happened. Forbidden LegacySo it took me awhile to climb the tower...
But bit of an interesting interchange here and another one which surprised me. The premise was that, in Alva's mind, Eileen Sasaki was...what's the word I am trying to look for...one of those revered Ancesestors who did a lot of good by creating a system to control flooding.
At first though from the first log we find out that the system did not work, got a lot of people killed, and Eileen was part of a cover up. Eileen was suitably pissed especially out of the revelations of Ted Faro and how despicable he was and Erik the friendly neighborhood psycho. So she despaired that all the Ancesestors had to be like this, and given the evidence and this is a game its not that hard to draw that conclusion.
Except as we continue on we discover that eventually she had her father removed as the CEO and resolved to actually do 'Leviathan' right. Favorite exchange was something along the lines of 'it does not wash away the sin but at least we can make something good of it' Which ALva took from there to mean that she was no real saint but wasn't exactly a monster either. As are most people, an important reminder. On the Wings of the Ten/ gathering alliesBit of a short quest. I would have loved it if we could have had the ability to go and have this flight ability from the beginning of the game. Would've really been helpful. In the end though it was kind of brief, though spectacular. Aloy picked up a power cell from a Horus and did an air strike neutralizing Regalla's forces, short story short had a boss battle and defeated her in single combat. Then got the choice to spare her or not. We'll see where it goes especially if I get around to a second PT but sometimes its weird for me because I do believe in eventual redemption, believe in giving people multiple chances to be better, and don't really believe in extreme sanction if someone is neutralized. But the question is I must do what is best for the role playing of Aloy. Which is to say I must put myself in her shoes and what she would do, especially in a case with such limited role playing opprotunities. So its not so much a matter of what *I* would do or what *my Aloy* would do since such a concept is a contradiction in the Horizon series but what *Aloy* would do. And also given that Regalla was spitting mad at this point and swearing revenge and that people are cowards for killing her, can't wait for her to just change her mind, still one of the better choices in the game. Well, my heroics got everyone's favorite anti hero to the table. Sylens is there, with his weapon, as well as Tilda. I have to admit Sylens's plan did have a certain elegance to it. Working through intemediaries and keeping his hands as clean as he possibly could, didn't get involved. I do so hate that him and Aloy are so hostile to one another . But in the end he is here...oh that's right to the other thing was that he mentioned was him actually betraying Aloy to the Zeniths for...well less then idealistic reasons. Granted not sure what would've been worse since the other way might make him look like an idiot but despite his lack of knowledge of Beta he was trying to get Aloy out of the way so that he could put his plans into action without her interference because he knew she wouldn't aprove of all the sacrifices...no kidding. Tilda meanwhile does offer a similar bit of interesting dialogue on her end after she comes in. Sylens and her don't really like one another and she offers more backstory on the Zeniths. It actually took me a moment to recognize her voice and had to look it up but once I realized I couldn't not here Aria T'loak...so yeah she is voiced by Carrie Anne Moss. Her biggest reveal here though was talking about how the Zeniths became sterile by their AI learning and environments they could use. Bit of a trope...but I do wonder at the implication that maybe Ted Farro did everyone a favor. Because the original plan was to have Gaia/ Apollo teach all the new humans about their past and how to look after the planet and the terraforming system. AIs. Machines. She does mention repeatedly that they had Apollo's AI teachers teach Beta all sorts of technical data but she wanted to ensure that she learn art. What if that happened with Liz's 'children'. Would APollo have given them a well rounded society with well rounded education, or would it have specifically focussed on just what they had needed? Even assuming such a 'classical' education would've been provided at all. Then what would the consequences be for humanity, would they have been as stunted and machine like as the Zeniths? Cut off from their emotions generally? No real appreciation for sympathy? No way of growing? The mind wonders. Next up though finished up one last side mission hunting down Tenakth rebels on the top of my new machine steed. Really would've liked this from the beginning and wonder if it translates to NG +. I must say though that if I ever do get around to a second PT of this game I really have to experiment with Machine overides. Haven't really done it with two games but some of the options do look...noteworthy. Really wanna look at Stalkers, wonder if I can ride the suckers.

colfoley in NG+ you retain all the tools you gather from the game such as the Vine Cutter and the Breather Mask and yes flying too. Which is great as all those things that you need them for you can do from the get-go. I am not sure other than the flying that I overrode or rode a machine other than the Sunwing. It does make the NG+ easier and the first NG+ I did was much shorter as I pretty much main lined the main story and only did the side stuff I wanted to.

Was excited today to start playing HZD FW only to discover I'd downloaded HZD. Downloaded HZD FW and started an NG+ and decided this time to do the tutorial in NG+ to make sure I remembered the controls, got about halfway through without too much drama but looking forward to getting my gear back. Glad I did the tutorial (at this time) just for the Varl interactions. Hoping the tutorial has lots of auto-saves.

Wel technically yo ucan pic kup Oghren whenever you want. I tjus tmeans you have to d oOrzammar earlier if you do. Unlike Forbidden Wes tthough I think the levels generally adjus tto whateve rleve lyou aer in DAO. I suppos eyo ucould pick up Alva earlier but you d oris kbeing underlevelled and fin dthe mission harder. Which is why here I thin kit's best probably to do this mission last given Horizon does coun tthe numbers wheras DAO doesn't. I have done Orzammar earlier though but I do think given it's general difficulty Orzammar was designed t obe a late game quest even if you can do it earlier

Wow - I am really regretting not using my Boom Stick earlier and more often. Lowest tier, but it just does insane damage. Took out one of the giant turtles (can't remember the cutesy name) that was 2 or 3 levels above Aloy without much trouble at all. It has been a game changer. The friend Aloy went looking for was someone I totally remember from the first game - - but I do remember the Lodge, so I guess that counts. Got that quest to the point where I have to meet her again near the Base. Went and found the Oseram runaway and handled the signal spike quest. The climb to the top of the Tenakth tower was cool. Aloy heeded her own comment and took the glider down (lol at the game pauing midway to 'compile shaders' wtf?) Have maxed out the Infiltrator tree, and will probably build out Warrior next. Or maybe Warrior and Hunter.

Really wanna look at Stalkers, wonder if I can ride the suckers. There are 3 mount machines besides the Sunwing: Charger, Bristleback, and Clawstrider aka Sparky.

Or maybe Warrior and Hunter. I started playing the game again yesterday and after the Tutorial was grateful to see Aloy equipped with her Legendary Boomstick. They are definitely the most powerful weapon in the game I think but the explosive ones mean you don't get parts you need to scavenge for especially Legendary gear IIRC. As I said started playing yesterday and like you I keep getting a Shader Loading thing, I do not ever remember that being a problem before only at the start of the game or if I changed settings. Starting the game first time this PT I had to "End Task" the game as it just hung on that?????? Just got down the Elevator at the start, had forgotten doing the tutorial how beautiful the game is especially after playing an older game like DAI. How I have missed this: Had fun taking down the Snake with some Frost and a few arrows. Aloy definitely wasn't happy to see this guy Oooh a statue, missed that last PT as I skipped the tutorial. Gave Avad some hope in the romance stakes by choosing the heart option.

I am having issues with the shaders wanting reload all the time but also my fans going crazy even just in the menus. I think I managed it by changing the fan curve using MSI Afterburner but I don't want to download that again as it caused issues with some games. saandrig any suggestions I am basically playing on High Settings?

So I come to it at last... Actually fun I did decide to do one last detour on the way. The wife is a bit of a fan of San Francisco so I tried to go find a couple of landmarks to see how they did them in the game, plus to wrap up the one quest with finding the gyro compass...which turned into an 'after the news' sort of quest. Did find the Golden Gate Bridge and the Horus that crashed into it, impressive...did not find Alcatraz though and I do wonder if it is actually in the game because I couldn't even find screenshots of it...maybe some of the ruins? Anyways...onto Singularity. So for the second time in two games this game ended really strongly. Kind of a main theme of me wondering about something and then the game answering the question in very short order. First big set piece on this issue to was Aloy's big plan. Army of Spectres in between us and the base, so Aloy had Beta hack into the network so Hephastus could infiltrate the base and use its tech to print a whole lot of machines in order to strike. Now this cutscene/ set piece is A. gorgeous and cinematic and B. Very well written overall, nice set up and pay off, however there was a lot of issues I was thinking about. Namely that Hephastus is free again to wreck havoc on the world and would be free to cause further issues. Oh and it being Hephastus the machines weren't actually under our control. The latter didn't really become much of an issue per se but it was quickly pointed out that I was right. Sylens also did wonder aloud very quickly and pointed out that Hephastus would be free to escape. So the writers were thinking ahead. But another, perhaps slight issue here instead...why would it want to leave? With its control of the 3D printers of the Base then it would have access to an infinite number of machines to finish wiping out humanity, etc. So why would it WANT to retreat to the network? The answer is probably obvious with resources but it never actually mentioned it...and well more on all that in a minute. Second big thing the big reveal and well the ending that made me give this series ANOTHER try . We get the reveal on Nemesis and what Nemesis is. I did forget some of the implications of it that it was a collective mind of the Zeniths and that it really became pissed, probably forgetting something else to. But I do rather love the thematic significance of this ending and how much it fits in with the overall tone of the series. Way back Elizabet, who loved life, had to make a sacrifice to have any chance of saving the potential life. But this time ALoy has to make a stand because well, this is it for Earth's biosphere. Of course there is a bit of insanity to the Zentihs, and well at this point, Tilda's plan. Which its kind of funny that this she is probably basically the only one left at this point So, yeah its not a viable plan for the survival of the human race...but then I do almost forget the Zeniths did get their imortality, so Tilda and ALoy would shack up for eternity...how fun for them. Ugh! Actually back tracking for a second to because during the initial battle was also wondering about the Zeniths other tech, that Sylens weapon should have shut them down as well, but that didn't happen...but it also didn't matter because they were eaten. Also fun little side bar of the above as well the Zeniths plan didn't make much sense because I would think they knew that Nemesis was following them, yet Nemesis sent the signal and they were hoping to hijack Gaia so they could start life on a NEW planet. The real coup in all this though was Sylens. At the end he was a lone wanderer, planning on taking Apollo, the Odyssey, and going, but instead when he saw everyone together he decided to turn around and stand with them. Final bit of this game further answered and clarified things. Hephastus did escape back into the network...but it wasn't said if they actually got Apollo back. I am kind of assuming they did because there seemed to be two missing segments in the data display, so that would suggest that is Hephastus and Hades...and also suggests that they mangaged to get the rest of them back because of the Zeniths. So onto Horizon 3 for those two threats. Get Hephastus to help fight Nemesis. Good place to be in. Video games are fun! Probably mentioned it before but, well, video games have gameplay. Gameplay can be amazing to drag gamers into their worlds...but they can also be big distractions. Because Horizon is beautiful, it is at times a thematic, cinematic masterpiece filled with good characters and even as someone who occasionally takes pot shots at Aloy she is much better this time around. But in the end the gameplay, isn't always for me. Granted I think it too is better this time around so despite my little tantrum the other day ( ) I still have to say this game is better. But it can also be quite a grind for me to get through. So still, probably tier 3, better then the last one but here we are. Still somehow looking for the next one. Lets hope they fix the campfires next time.

Got next to nothing done yesterday as RL got in the way. Looked to start off I might get 4 hours in but got just over an hour done.
Cleared the map North of the area you get dropped off by the lift, collected the Signal Lenses, harvested Greenshine from a cavern, went to several machine sites and stopped at the mine where you have to rescue the miners.

Got a few hours in yesterday but didn't make it past Chain Scrape and going the quests there, not much time to post more detail have not been 100% and other RL stuff getting in the way. So highlight of the Day was not dying by falling off any of the Signal Towers and not dying in general Catching up with Old Friends This look. Had forgotten I could glide and how much fun it is.
