Ghil Dirthalen's vid on the game informer article: so Solas does get trapped in the fade...interesting.

Both of them are actually very capable schemers, who almost got what they wanted. I know some people laugh at Corypheus being a week villain, but... he isn't? He is an expert of slinking through the shadows in deep secrecy and building up his power until it's basically too late for anyone to react - he made Venatori into a power to reckon with and almost had the South in his grasp basically without any fight (infiltrated Templars, remaining mages and even the Winter Palace). Things went sideways only because he's decided he wants a high-value sacrifice for his ascension, and then some rookie disrupted the ritual and began investigating what's this all about and where all of that is leading - which is only then when his elaborate plans began to unravel. Let's give the guy some credit where it's due. he basically had it in the bag, but for a happy accident. I won't deny there were problems with the delivery, but I have a soft spot for Coryphneous or whatever his fucking name was. One of the best back-stories for a villain I've ever seen. Yea, we can always debate about the delivery, but I generally consider characters like Solas or Corypheus capable and competent, and their problems stemming in large part from either: A. having stakes so high/plans so elaborate and reliant on so many variables that any deviation from a plan can quickly send them into a disarray, B. stumbling on other very capable actors (and I include Inquisitor and their into band to this), who sometimes may also have cosmic levels of luck (fate or, well, plot armor)

That detail about the single place setting in Solas's dining room is simultaneously hilarious and very sad. This is what you get for driving all of your Inquisition friends away, you stupid egg.

So you can't really fault the guy for the fact that he kept running afoul of the Inquisitor's "cosmic-level" good fortune, as you aptly put it. And that voice... Altogether a pretty cool, albeit highly imperfect, video game villain

If you exist! If you every truly existed! Aid me now! Corypheus I think had the most wasted potential of any of the DA baddies so he is quite down my list of favorites, but I still really enjoyed him and his performance overall. ANd which we got more of the stuff like we got in the Temple of Dumat during the Templar ally timeline. Like Solas I don't even find him entirely unsympathetic. Edit: Vid of my Inquisitor for refernce:

He's way too far gone, too Blighted and predominantly interested with elevating himself to godhood, but considering just how thight of a grip he's secretly had on the South and ALMOST got everything he wanted with hardly anyone being much aware that there's a blighted guy *building an army under their noses*.... whatever I think of him, that guy is not an idiot, at least when it comes to plotting to achieve what he wants.

Plus I do believe he got more desperate the more his plans failed. Which just speaks to his brilliance to because the man had a fairly full proof, end of the game, type plan, and he still had the forethought to have contingincies if he failed. Probably the one area where Cory actually one ups Solas both in terms of a threat and overall character.

Probably the one area where Cory actually one ups Solas both in terms of a threat and overall character. Solas, I think, is good at thinking quick on his feet when stuff falls apart - instead of losing his head, he swiftly assesses what would be the best solution to the sudden problem and commits to it. After all, he was the one who actively approached Inquisition and helped them, including saving Inky's life in first crucial days and giving them his old base of operations, so his plans to deal with Cory crisis worked out basically without a hitch (or with the hitch being that he... got attached to at least some of these people, lol). I don't think however we can say that he has no contingencies (he may have to detail what precautions he took to minimize the damage of the ritual tho) - but he also works with a far more complex problem than Cory, who focuses predominantly on becoming a new god.

I'm now convinced it was definitely the Evanuris whispering the ancient magisters in their dreams since Solas is going to do the same to Rook once he's trapped in the Fade.

so Solas does get trapped in the fade...interesting. Yes. I was watching on of the other You Tubers who got to play test that first section of the game, like the guy in the article, and they were genuinely surprised that Bioware had given them the green light to reveal this as part of the marketing. It was a pretty big deal in their eyes and quite a shock when it happened in game. So they are hoping it won't spoil the impact for people when they do play it. They have pointed out it does occur really early in the game, so there is plenty more to come. I'm hoping that if we can communicate with him there we finally can ask him questions that he actually has to answer (because he's not going anywhere) and he realises that perhaps keeping everyone of his old allies in the dark, apart from telling them you're all going to die, didn't work out too well for him. That's three times now his plan didn't work as anticipated when running solo; just how wise are you when you can't take a hint. The other thing that was perhaps less of a surprise but nevertheless the You Tuber was surprised they revealed it, was the identity of the two gods that were released and the fact that they are blighted. That doesn't necessarily mean they created the blight, just that they are now infected with it. As a result, like any blighted creature they spread the blight wherever they go. Not good news. However, considering the general theory it has something to do with killing a titan or titans and Elgar'nan along with Mythal seem to have been responsible for that, chances are the two senior Evauris were responsible indirectly, even if it wasn't their intention to cause it. Still, referring back to the captive Solas, perhaps he can now finally tell us what he knows about the origins of the blight. Or we can study his murals at our leisure. The article says that his hideout has them everywhere and originally the route there had them on the walls as well. In fact it is said that walking past them is like travelling back in time. Also, if being at the ritual site gave Rook a permanent connection with the Fade (whether they are a mage or not) I'm guessing that is what also happened to Harding. Neve of course was already a mage. As for Varric, his ultimate fate wasn't revealed. It would be amusing to think he got trapped in the Fade with Solas. Now Varric can talk for eternity and Chuckles will have to listen.

Now Varric can talk for eternity and Chuckles will have to listen. Good points all. I did mention in Schmooples that the majority of things that have been confirmed are things that have been highly speculated about for the last ten years so the majorty of them aren't exactly huge spoilers. And them front loading all of them in what sounds like the game's first five hours is another very interesting story choice like 'ok lets get the obvious stuff out of the way'. Still you are right about them revealing it and wonder how much 'allowed' really enters into it. I almost would've rather not known, obviously, but at the end of the day spoilers have never bothered me either and really all of this is really strategic on BioWare's part because with all of this marketing its like "Ok where are they going to go from here?" since I assumed that Solas was going to be a big antagonistic force that we'd have to hunt down in the world two weeks ago to now confirmation that he is getting trapped in the fade...its brilliant marketing because it just makes me wonder even more how will they play it. Will he escape mid game and then we'll have to hunt him down anyways? Will he be a constant voice in our ears monitoring our progress and offering his opinion on events like Odin from Vahalla? Will he stay stuck in the Fade the entire game and part of the plot is going to be working our way to his prison in the fade to confront him? (one theory video I watched suggested that is where he was in the scene where he was drawing the mural in the second VGA trailer) Is he still going to be an antagonistic force? A ally? Or both depending on our actions? What of all the thoughts about redeeming him vs his inner fight against the Wolf that you speculated about? The Idol? The mind really boggles and feels like this game is now open to a lot more possibilities which again could be intentional because its like "OK here is all your fan theories confirmed, congrats, but now here are some more surprises to show you don't actually know jack."

Apparently the whole, "people he doesn't know" is made totally irrelevant almost immediately as well. I'm still waiting for one good reason I can't play as my Inquisitor. Well it does matter, it's just mission accomplished within the prologue.

All right, there's that pessimism, exacting standards, and self-importance Bioware fandom is famous for. So many here were pretty positive the last few days, I was beginning to worry. Especially for Hanako. I knew I wasn't the only one who felt that. I know BSN folks are divided with one faction being nitpicky about every single little things but still chooses to buy the game. How are we so divided though? Some want to crack the egg, some want to redeem him. Some want a fresh new protagonist, some (especially Hanako) want the Inquisitor to be the one. Some want to move on, some want the old stuff back. I always felt being at Bioware would be so nerve-wrecking if they are on hardcore communities like BSNs and Reddit. You can never satisfy everyone. I, for one, mourned the departure of open-world environments but that's just me. It's not a deal breaker for me. I'm rather unimpressed with the possible notion that Solas gets to be treated in this manner too but wouldn't be a bit too early to judge on it when we have only seen a gameplay video and info tidbits. One thing I have known about this fandom is that they are too quick to jump onto conclusions.

Agreed. The spoilers struck the right balance between satisfying my thirst for answers/piquing my curiosity, so if anything I'm only more excited to find out more. And my personal pet theory is still looking OK so far! If they keep stow-dripping intriguing details to us like this for the next 4 months waiting for DAV to actually drop is going to be fucking torture

I am very surprised that Elgar'nan is the male Evanuris. He's supposedly their leader and the most powerful, so logically he would be fought last. Maybe their hierarchy is different than what elven legend says, or maybe one of the others was pulling a "man-behind-the-man" gambit and is actually even more powerful.

One of my big rules of thumb is just do what is right for the story, sometimes bringing back new things is, sometimes bringing back old things is, but ultimatley there really is no one set rule for this stuff and saying otherwise is just a story version of a logical fallacy.

Unless of course he is one of the only two that are left... Mind you on this idea I find it REALLY curious that you have the FIRST of the Gods and then the last one to be elevated to godhood in the Elven pantheon being represented here. Wonder if there is thematic signicance to that.

I'd say Solas' situation is more similar to ehh Dream Guardian from BG3 rather than Johnny. Does it mean that we will see Solas half naked ? I have doubts Solas would try to seduce Rook to use them It's not his style - even in Inquisition where we can romance him, he's reluctant and keeps warning that this is just a bad idea all around. I also don't think we'd have a relationship similar to the one with the Guardian, considering that everything's out in the open, basically - Rook knows what Solas' deal is, even though I'm quite sure there will be moments when Solas may try to convince Rook to his cause, or at least try to make him understand his motives. Oh no, you got it wrong, Rook will be one doing the seducing!

Think Rooks connection to the Fade is why we have no blood magic. Or because Solas would instant-kill Rook if they try to do it.
