I kinda have to agree, compared to the races we created years ago this is just, bland... Its like a mix between a quarian and a prothean. With a rocky shell. Inspiration, where are you?

So if we got a butt with a head sticking out of its bumhole and it had good writing you would be fine with it? You want to switch severely unimaginative designs with completely dumb ones? I sure as hell don't want to play that game man.

The artist guy seems a bit like an amateur. Nothing wrong with it, but I kinda get the impression from the interview that they haven't properly sat down and talked about why the Kett is supposed to look the way they do based on some lore-specific ideas. He says they have stories they want to tell about the Kett and I believe him but I worry if it's been sort of a lenient decision-making process when they had to figure out how to make new races now. He even says the Kett design is the one he's the most proud of of the new aliens. Also, it looks like a Warframe character just like the new armors and helmets.

Seems ok to me - still two legs, two arms and a head though I think it's difficult to imagine a functioning alien life form. The only thing that bothers me slightly is they appear to have very human, and very well-kept, teeth. I've seen several documentaries about this very specific topic - physicists and scientists making up alien lifeforms vastly different than us but making them have their unique features because of the environment they live in. They created all sorts of cool lifeforms, like blind spider aliens with super strong feet because of the extreme gravitation and complete darkness of their home planet, organic tissue mixed with crystal, entire planets covered with one giant life form. In the end they speculated that even completely inorganic intelligent life may be possible. (Not talking about robots here, but stuff like mercury etc.) All intelligent lifeforms really need is some way to manipulate their environment to build stuff and a way to ''See''. There are many ways to accomplish this that without having a body similar to humans.

Yeah, I wish they'd stop giving most of their aliens human-like mouths. I get that they need to be humanoid to fit rigs/reduce animation costs, but they could do with fewer human-featured aliens. Butt how will you smooch them otherwise? I'm sure humans would find some way to fasten their lips over their food-intake orifice regardless.

Don't like them, it annoys me greatly how completely humanoid all the sentient races in the ME universe are. They finally got a chance to introduce us to completely new alien species, far away from the milky way and all they could come up with is....this? Severe lack of fantasy, they could have gone batshit insane with biomechanical stuff, blur the lines between organic and artificial life in crazy ways. Just look at some of the Giger art. Blows this half-arsed attempt for a new race out of the water. Well we can see a mix of new ideas with the more "classic" feel of a humanoid-race. I think in that regard the Kett are being positioned as being antagonistic, but also relatable in terms of the Andromeda galaxy makeup. I am curious to see what aliens they do create in the vein of the Hanar or Elcor...the really odd races that structurally are difficult to get around...maybe something really weird like floating bio-organic crystals with tentacles and proboscis to eat prey like a mosquito... Just my thought...

Montreal is not an unproven Bioware studio. They developed the Omega DLC for ME3 and handled everything related to ME3's multiplayer (which was more fun than the singleplayer). I have more faith in them than either of the other studios. That said, I do agree that the Kett seem pretty uninspired so far, but I'll reserve judgment on if they succeeded or failed until I get to play the game myself.

It was on the old Bioware forums, which you cant see anymore, but I have some copies of it that i took and preserved. I may post them here at some point.

I find it funny how they said they wanted them to look more alien, yet they look like humans made out of rocks. The Khet design is a bit on the weak side, especially with some of the concept art they showed. Why the hell did they pick the most generic and human looking version of them?.....

Looks like a bunch of teenaged bros got together and drew their idea of what a super bad ass alien looks like. ,.-~*´¨¯¨`*·~-.¸-(_MEA_)-,.-~*´¨¯¨`*·~-.¸
Hmm...You have a better adult idea? That is, one where humans and the bad asses can interact and a story can be written around them? I'm open.
Say, take the aliens from the movie Edge of Tomorrow. Truly alien, if you ask me. Can you write a story where humans and these 'creatures" can interact, communicate, trade, have a relationship? Can a character story about one of the creature truly be written or believable?
Just asking.

Oddly, I find the Khet quite alien and believable bad azz looking. And refreshing. Also fits with my belief that Bio can't do proper hair styles.
The Bonies are different from the MW races, that's for sure. But, the most important aspect of the Khet is that we can interact with them.
A three legged specimen I would consider nature's failed experiment. A four - six armed alien is a steal from Edgar Rice Burroughs Mars series. What's next Deja Thoris as an Asari replacement?
Bio did good here.

Hate me, as far as first impressions go. Me too! The most dangerous enemy is the one that doesn't seem dangerous. Like the asari who are powerful biotics and use their attractiveness and creepy mind melting powers to manipulate everyone. The salarians don't look imposing either but make up for it with being super smart and sneeky genocidal snobs. That said, I think the Khet look WAY BETTER than I thought. I dig the green armor. And I do think in the concept art they do have an air of sophistication about them. They don't exactly look like total brutes. Don't mind humanoid at all. So, the butt emphasis confirms love interest, right? (Btw, what is it with Bioware and (male) butts in this game, Not that I mind, but...)

I actually like their VO, I have soft spot for deep "mechanical" voices since Sovy. It does make them sound sinister however. That "I have the bad feeling about this" sounds like he's about to press "kill all humans" button. Even if he told "Do you want some tea?" in that voice I'd still assume he just poisoned it. Also, Zinyak vibes anyone?

I quite like their design, though I find their carapace-ness is quite similar to turians or collectors. But the rough-rock like texture does help to make them stand out. I do agree that there could've been a bit more push to make them more alien, and they had some good concepts that sadly got lost in the design process (but then concept art is usually going to be better than the finished product, I think).
Still, I'd like to see more of them and hope Bioware delivers on making them sympathetic and telling lots of stories about them.

The concept art shown in the video looked really cool and interesting in the beginning, but then got progressively worse the closer we got to the final Kett. I agree that they look incredibly bland and uninteresting, especially their faces. They look so human, it hurts and with their final armor design, I find them no less "sleek" than the old races, less so than krogans or vorcha for example. Really not liking their design so far, but I hope there are some more interesting looking alien races joining in Andromeda as well.

Their design is... I don't know. It doesn't really fit into ME, imo. It just doesn't. It fits more shooter sci fi games or even... well. Zin in Saints Row 4 looked familiar. I just can't look at the Kett and don't see Zin.

I can't say I find this to be the most inspired alien design I've seen so far. Even with keeping a humanoid shape for obvious gameplay reasons, why not make them rely on echo-location, magnetic currents instead of eye-sight? That could have opened other kinds of designs, like prominent frontal bulbs or whatever. That said, I'm perfectly aware it is easier to relate with anthropomorphic creatures. I find many spiders very cute, but I know that I'm in the clear minority about that. Most people around me find them ugly and disgusting, even in documentaries where the director and narrator do a good job at making them look cute. Is it the safest way to make us sympathise with them at some point? Absolutely. Is it such a bad thing? It remains to be seen, and entirely depends on which kind of story BW wants to tell.
Besides, having one species looking so human doesn't preclude others from being less so. We've already seen other creatures that have no anthropomorphic design at all, what they call the Remnants in the PS4 Pro trailer to begin with, the giant flying centipede, the giant leaches, the dragon transformer... So, I'm not overly bothered, and hopefully, the narrative the Kett bring is compelling enough to overlook the relative blandness of their aesthetic. I'm reserving my final judgment to when I finally meet them.

I don't know, I'm not overly fond of the kett design so far. Two things immediately sprung to mind:
- must be able to reuse assets like animation rigs - if the setting has Lancer assault rifles, it should also have locust
Bone - unless we've got a more humanoid zerg or tyranid here - does not make for very efficient armor in an age of advanced weapon technology. They look like something I'd expect from the XCOM franchise, a somewhat primitve race that was uplifted and mentally subjugated by another race of superior technology and intellect and then sent into battle as shock troops.
Except for the human mouth. What an odd design.
