I'm excited to find out how well and in what way Bioware will make the Andromeda aliens look different from the Milky Way species but also look alike. The Milky Way aliens are all based an animals, I think. Which makes sense. Turians are birds, the Krogan were originally based on bats I believe. Drell are lizards or snakes, Asari have scaly skin, and so on. Let's see if all the Andromeda species have an earthy bone-like appearance. Maybe we'll even get an explanation for that? From what they evolved. Would be neat. I think dinosaurs or reptiles might me behind krogans' design more then bats, to be honest.

I think dinosaurs or reptiles might me behind krogans' design more then bats, to be honest. I'm pretty sure I read it in the art book... but I'm too lazy to look it up right now. I was surprised too. I agree they don't look like bats anymore, though if you squint you can see it a bit in the face, I guess.

Matt Rhodes has stated that the facial appearance of the krogan was inspired by bats, yes, though I believe dinosaurs might be, at least, partially the inspiration for the body of the krogan.

Say, take the aliens from the movie Edge of Tomorrow. Truly alien, if you ask me. Can you write a story where humans and these 'creatures" can interact, communicate, trade, have a relationship? Can a character story about one of the creature truly be written or believable?
Just asking. Yes, yes you can. BioWare themselves have even approached such storytelling elements in the past with the Rachni Queen. The narrative arc for that species; one that was very 'alien' to a vast majority of the other Milky Way species; allowed for interaction, communication, a trade of services and/or favors, and a rudimentary friendship. Of course, BioWare also did a great job of gouging out any meat to this narrative in favor of more human drama, and they practically forgot about the Rachni until the last five minutes of ME 3's development, but the basis of all those elements is still present; provided the player spared the Queen in the first game. It's not impossible to have an alien like the Mimics from Edge of Tommorow be a fleshed out part of the greater game world, as well as a possible ally. Would it be harder than simply slapping a couple of bony rocks on a human and calling it a day? Yes, but it wouldn't be outside the realms of possibility. Bioware (i dont know in montreal studio has thse more now or not)has some people that have no idea how to make truly good or even medium alien races, or take the poor examples and force us to play with them. The quarians for one turned out to be completely wasted in the imaginary department, when they took a stock photo human and modified it a bit, how lazy is that. When the fans churn out better concepts than the creators, you know youre in trouble. And lets not forget Star Wars the Old Republic where the director pretty much said we couldnt "familiarize" with odd ball (but hugely iconic and popular)aliens like rodians, mon calamari or wookiees, so what did they basically give us as player race choices: A red human, a blue human, a green human, a blind human, a human with horns etc. So instead of giving what the players wanted, they told us what we wanted and could have. Thanks a lot. The original ME races were good, for the most part, but i have to say the kett seem like a poor first impression considering were going to whole another galaxy. What came in mind when i looked at those pictures were the comet warriors of He-man, and if it reminds me of a Mattel toy design thats not too good. Hey maybe they have a really intesting culture or something, that makes up, but design wise I hope the other aliens (if there are any) have a little more oomph in them.

Kett: Greetings, aliens, why have come to our territory? Pathfinder: Show me your females. "This day later was known as the beginning of First Andromeda War" Attempting to quote Roddy Piper's famous line from They Live with dyslexia is also never a good idea; "I'm here to kick bubblegum and chew a**..."

I'm looking forward to Andromeda, but those sketches of the Kett are really bothering me. Sorry, but that organic look makes me think of the Collectors. Judging by the sketches, it's as if the Kett still don't have an established visual concept. They look like a random organic race, that's all.
The krogan were defined by their turtle-like design. They had their humps, their large mouths, their thick neck and their overall angry look, coupled with a deep voice. The asari were blue, feminine-looking anthropomorphic hermaphrodites without visible ears and tentacles for hair. Salarians were thin and tall, had twin horns and no prominent nose, fast speech and large, alien-like eyes. Turians were a mix of reptile, bird-like design, with those feathers coming out of their heads, plus that black sclera.
Each race had distinguished physical features which formed their unique identity as a species. From the sketches, I don't see what are the Kett's main features. Something else I noticed is that the shape of their forehead is somehow similar to that of a turian. Also, the bone-like "exoskeleton" makes me think of Reapers.
I really hope they change that design or improve it somehow.

They're not going to change them. Though I hope there'll be be some differences as in some subtypes, as well as not having the same face for every Kett.

Hmm...You have a better adult idea? That is, one where humans and the bad asses can interact and a story can be written around them? I'm open.
Say, take the aliens from the movie Edge of Tomorrow. Truly alien, if you ask me. Can you write a story where humans and these 'creatures" can interact, communicate, trade, have a relationship? Can a character story about one of the creature truly be written or believable?
Just asking.
Yes... ME already did so with aliens like the rachni, the elcor, the hanar, etc. I'm not sure what that question has to do with my critique of the khet though? ,.-~*´¨¯¨`*·~-.¸-(_MEA_)-,.-~*´¨¯¨`*·~-.¸
I believe you refer to limited interaction.
What I refer to is the like of a Garrus or Thane or Aria or Wrex. No such possibilities can exist with the Rachni Queen, Elcor or Hanar. Let's take the Elcor. I can just see them in your squad or in the multiplayer game running around the map. They will be able to run across the map to help you when your down... while the Khet are designed with a Garrus..etc in mind.
However, all is not lost. I'm convinced that Bio will populate the worlds of the cluster with side show aliens.

Ah.... you must be a fan of Robert Heinlein's Starship Trooper novel / movies.
Yep, we could really interact with those aliens / Queen. Nah, more of a Formics fan from Ender's Game. And humanity did interact with and eventually ally with that species in that novel series. ,.-~*´¨¯¨`*·~-.¸-(_MEA_)-,.-~*´¨¯¨`*·~-.¸.
When the word interaction comes to mind, I think of social interactions.
The Formic is one Hive mind controlled by a Queen. The only individual humans can talk to is the queen. I can just see us walk up to the queen and say, "hi, how's was your day today"?
In other words, there are only a few common reference points between humans and Formic and fewer humans still, that can communicate with a Queen. I don't see this in the same level as interacting with an Aria or Thane. I mean, how much interaction could one possibly have with a Vorchaa?
I do expect the Bio writers to include weird cluster aliens here and there.. mostly in Hub centres.

Sure such interaction would be on a different level than talking to an Asari or Salarian, but that's the point isn't it? To showcase the 'alien' portion of the setting? You won't be asking the Rachni Queen if she wants to head down to the bar to grab some drinks, but then again why do we want every single alien to think and act just like us in the first place? If everything is just a human in a rubber mask talking about their daddy issues or sexual preferences, then why even throw the science fiction moniker with an emphasis on exploration onto the game in the first place? I still hold the opinion that something similar to the Formics or Mimics, or Rachni can be used for a full fledged companion, it would just require the writers and players to step outside of their comfort zones and approach something that doesn't immediately conform to our way of perceiving things.

You can't look at early spit balled ideas and say "there's no pinned down visual concept" just because they decided to show you some of it. Obviously there is a visual concept pinned down or the game would still be years out and they wouldn't have shared the final design.

While I would fancy us learning to grasp the language from bits and conversations, I think it would be more likely that there'll be some translator-Remnant technology or we'll have something like Javik's touch-meld that allows the Khett to understand us and vice versa. Heh, could be entertaining if it kicks in with unfortunate timing:
Ryder: "We come in peace." Liam: "I don't think they got that." Ryder: "At least, they seemed to have calmed down. It dosen't seem like they think-" *Translation kicks in* Ryder: "-we're going to attack"
