Ahh...Isabela
Shifty, unreliable, good fighter, thief. Took her with me many a times. Awfully good with those blades. Romanced her but found it unsatisfactory.

Doesn't initially want to get involved or anything serious, has hidden motivations that cause them to betray you, then freaks out slightly upon realising that despite themselves, they've accidentally fallen for the main character...
Even if upon closer inspection their romance arcs do have a lot of similarities, Morrigan, Isabela and Solas are still my favourite characters to romance in DA. All of them have unique variations on the theme of "love redeems" that makes it still feel fresh, while Solas averts the trope entirely at the end, as he chooses to return to being Fen'Harel over his love for the Inquisitor.
With Isabela, if you've raised her affinity to the point she returns to Kirkwall at the end of Act 2, that shows that her love (or loyalty) to Hawke has overridden her more selfish and self-preservation instincts. As her Act 3 codex entry reveals, she left the city immediately after the fight with the Arishok, after getting into a heated conversation with Hawke, where she was heard to say;
"It was never for them, it was for you. It was always about you".

Never got that far with her. She betrayed me. But if you care for her, she regret, and back with the Koslun, risking her life. This is nice change!

Oh Isabela, why did you leave me? I thought I was your friend! That was one of the things that really bugged me about the friendship/rivalry system in DA2 - how easy it was to sometimes remain in the middle, aka no man's land, with some companions. See, my Hawke was sarcastic and did nice things, which Isabela liked, but she also did not approve of smuggling and/or thievery, which Isabela did. Hence, she left me to fight the qunari alone. Ugh, I really liked you Isabela...

I'll turn her in to the Arishok in a heartbeat. And why bother having a relationship anyways? It's just a one nightstand.

I rather pursue Vivienne than her and Isabela's just booty call anyway, and I don't want to catch her cooties up in her groceries. Gross!

I can't help but think of a girl I knew once who looks like Isabella, and if I can do a parallel. I never blame her cause of what she was doing, and I never judge her for her behaviours, cause she assumed it totally, and never hidden her acts, it's the most important.I always respect her acting this way that.It was her choice. It's not what she did what was condamnable, it's how she did it and it could have been misinterpreted eventually if she acted by slyness. What she didn't do. img15.deviantart.net/9483/i/2011/133/7/6/no_pants_party_by_nielspeterdejong-d3g8tsc.pngAveline: How are you so successful with men? You're not that pretty. Isabela: Cast a wide enough net, and you're bound to catch something. Aveline: At least you're willing to admit it. Isabela: Trust me. I've heard, "Get away from me, you pirate hag!" more times than I care to count. Aveline: Doesn't that bother you? Isabela: Why should it? They don't know me. I know me. On an other side I think in the cinema world or in videogame industry you need to caricature your characters if you do not it will result in a bland game with insipid characters, so you need to use some stereotypes.

Because men don't turn down sex. And what man you know is going to turn down sex? It's damn near impossible for a man to say no unless they're looking out for their sex health but I digress. And they didn't made her a Jezebel by accident, they mean what they put in the game.

Me, and others friends I know, don't jump that easy on women, depends on what you're searching for, generalities are dangerous. And cause I don't "jump" on her as I have a real possibility, it's not always the case. You need a stereotype as a base, it's a "cliché". then You need to refine it, to make it particular, but it's already normalized. People who fits those stereotypes had qualities, I don't have doubts about that like the girl I'm talking above.

I say if they're going to write about people of color either write about them with human qualities without stereotypes or don't write any.

But when it comes writing about women of color by stereotyping them in a negative way, that's a problem that I see. I say if they're going to write about people of color either write about them with human qualities without stereotypes or don't write any. How is Isabela enjoying sex and embracing her sexuality negative in anyway? The game never tries to insinuate that she's a bad person because she has lots of casual sex. The major character flaw from Isabela is that she has a tendency to be selfish at times and that can cause her to put her own desires above that of others (she is a Pirate), such as when she betrays Hawke in the Fade or skips town once she has the Tome of Koslun. Her greed is her most negative quality, not the amount of men and women that she happens to invite to her bed. That aspect of Isabela's character would also not be at all changed in any way if she were white, so I think it's baseless to say that she's being used as any kind of stereotype. Not everything has to be race-related or an attempt to propagate negative stereotypes... if you sincerely believe otherwise and every character action is part of some design to attack various ethnicities, that probably speaks more about the state of your mind, than that of the writer.

I say if they're going to write about people of color either write about them with human qualities without stereotypes or don't write any. As I said, it's not a negative way, they write Isabella, it's your vision of the world. How many women do you have in BW games, or in this game who are black with "bad" behavoiurs"? If you concentrate on the negative you will only see it. It all about how you apprehend life. Even if you went through bad judgments, it's your personal scale. What you feel inside of you in return. Your judgment criteria demonstrate you focus too much on that point. What you think, you make it live. That's why I wrote an Isabella's quote, it's so true: They don't know me. I know me.
