Well, if Mac said Andromeda avoids shoehorning and past romance formulae, we may encounter fewer "varieties" and in depth relationships. To offset this, we get the one night stands.
I bet there are a few "out there" that want both the one nighters and the deep relationship. Will there be another Morrigan?

There was still Leliana in DAO. I don't see how then being whiners make them not capable of being jealous. Anyway, my point was just that there are a lot of LI in Bioware games that are jealous. |

It occurred to me that many seem excited about the direction Bio is taking regarding romances. This "in depth" approach may be boring for some. Is that a possible reason for the studio to introduce the "one night stands?" or is it just fanservice?

A bit of both perhaps? And a wider variety can always help when roleplaying. Still, one night stands aren't new to ME, we had Sha'ira, Jack and Allers before. |

I like to try any kind of romance that each game can offer, in every way that they are offered.
I loved to collect all the sex cards in TW1 and to send my Geralt to visit every single brotel in TW2/TW3 along with every other available sexual encounter, as much as I loved to play my monogamous relationship in DA:I. I am fond of my little flirt with Hanna in Planescape Torment, I have sweet memories of my romantic relationship with Leliana in DA:O and I enjoyed to bang each of the four available women in Alpha Protocol on a single playtorugh.
Love can come in many forms and I am glad that so many games tried different approches on the matter, so, as long as they fit into the game, I will accept whatever they will provide us with.

Space brothels? I am shocked that there is no MMO set in an Open Seamless Brothel World. With wings, real grind for gear and a lot of repetitive group content. |

Yes, I can see it coming.
There's always points to criticise depending on what you want romance to be. As part of a game feature, this is only awesome and improving what they have done previously. As part of a narrative it could be a hindrance if it's just a series of character vignettes with a bonus romance arc instead of the character development of protagonist and a love interest who find each other in relation to some deeper theme going on in the main story, or better, that it directly influences dramatic beats. I'd love to see something like the Virmire choice but after you have your romance, so you get the Spiderman choice of "save your beloved or think about your responsibility to everyone else!" |

We don't need a return to the dark ages of "can I sex Bethany" threads again I watched my best friend play DA2 - a dude who has two other brothers and I'm a dude who has two sisters for context - and he also kept talking about how he wished you could screw Bethany, which was so awkward. I wonder if everyone who hasn't had sisters has those thoughts >_< |

Can't we just be friends? Biggest disappointment for my femshep was having Jack assume it was sex or nothing. No option for friendship. That was a problem throughout the trilogy, or at least in the first two games. I just played through Mass Effect again recently and got the confrontation scene between Ashley and Liara, even though Shepard never said anything that implied he wanted anything other than friendship with Ashley. Liara and Kaidan have similar problems IIRC, with each believing Shepard is romantically interested in them even when he/she isn't. It has been a long time since I've played Mass Effect 2, but I remember that it had the same problem. Tali assumes MaleShep is her boyfriend unless he take takes the "Eww, you're a gross alien" response. If Shepard tries to let Tali down easy by saying "I'm sorry Tali, but I don't want to jeopardize your health" she pretty much goes with this as a reaction. She'll also demand that Shepard stop playing games and choose between her and Miranda or Jack, if Shepard is pursuing either one. Hopefully Andromeda is more like DA:I in that regard, and the LIs don't mistake being polite or nice for romantic interest. |

Nevermind that all romances in 2 are just bloody terrible. I was actually quite fond of Miranda's... until the actual scene when it just turned into playboy magazine or something. There was genuine passion, flirting and sexual tension whether you go paragon or renegade before the romance scene with her. Either she starts hitting on you or you go on the aggressive which felt realistic to me, but then she just goes superficial and wants to make showoff sex when it finally happens. Tali's was kinda okay but pretty short. Both ME1 and ME3 did much better though I think even if ME2 had a lot of support of previous choices to better effect, think meeting Ash/Kaidan after ME1 romance on Horizon or Liara on Illium and then Shadow Broker DLC with proper dialogue and not "I'm glad we can just be friends... unless you want to...!" as if nothing happened in ME3.
I want some romance where I can feel a growing bond. I've said this a couple of times now, but I feel an urge to reiterate it lol. Cassandra's in DA:I was also great because she has many scenes by your side in the main plot being an imporant part of the Inquisition and she can quickly build trust to listen to your opinions about her worries, but then the romance is just this offshoot "I want an ideal romance. I want flowers and shit" and like Miranda it felt like it was seperate from the rest of the growing bond with her. At least she was naked and had perfect boobs as opposed to playboy sex.
It also struck me suddenly, ME1 teased with the "catfight!" option when Liara and Ashley want you at the same time. Given that we have a human female squaddie and at least Peebee too for females, I hope we can have a threesome. If the romances are shallow, at least make them fun or bad-boy-ish for those that like that.
