Maybe that's what the official records show and that Scott kept the rest hush hush. I like the headcanon. The official description I think was meant to be kept low key because it was meant to show that the Ryders hadn't made a name yet. If they were too extraordinary, that might have affected their family's reputation and offset or worsen their disgrace and motivation to head to Andromeda. Yeah I get that and as a pen and paper gamer that’s the norm, you start of as a level 1 nobody, rookie shadowrunner, new hero on the block etc. Thing is as a pen and paper gamer and DM I prefer backgrounds to have some potential story hooks I can use. Scott had none outside family all of which at the start is either dead or in a coma. Which is the classic player dodge so the gm doesn’t use your family against you. She had story hooks a plenty because she actually had a background. This makes me wish that Shepard had a prequel where we could play their background and do the missions that made them famous. Whether it was Torfan, Akuze or the Skyllian Blitz, we'd be able to play as Shepard but avoid the ME3 canon endings. We'd also still have access to biotic classes that would be absent in a First Contact War prequel.

I really didn't know what to think of default Scott at first. Initially I was primed to dislike him just based on his haircut and frat boy good looks. However, Tom Taylorson did such a fantastic job of bringing Scott to life that now I adore the character. Tom's deadpan delivery of some lines was priceless.
Scott: I'll find it. [deadpan] My job description is only one word.
Liam (on Meridian being a hollow sphere): How far *in* can we go before we're going *out*? Scott: [deadpan] Halfway. Liam: Okay, I asked for that.
It didn't hurt that I played Scott as a trollish meathead, picking logical/professional responses when interacting with the squad and emotional/casual responses with all the other NPCs, which was pretty damn funny. It was the opposite of my normal playstyle and I found it much more engaging that usual.
So I now think Scottie is a hottie and wish he got more love. I would really like another game with him as the protagonist.
Top of the World (Big Hero 6 Trailer Music)
Scott gets knocked down A LOT.
