yeah I thought about using her once or twice when creating my heroes. In fact the last Hawke I played on DA2 I designed around Ashley Greene

Name can be changed...

You are able to change Sarah's name to whatever you desire as with previous protagonists. However if you stick with her default name some characters will refer to by it rather than your surname or title.

I tend to be pretty bad at using BW's CC for some reason. My characters always end up looking the same. Now, don't laugh, but Sims 4 has a terrific CC that's very easy to use and I find I can make a lot of unique characters that end up looking reasonably realistic much more easily. Another thing I find with Bioware and most other games is color. I'll choose a dark hair color, get in game and it turns out to be way lighter. I haven't figured out how to adjust for that.

tell me about it it takes me hours to make them look at least human,to be honset some people are complaing that they can't play alien in single player let me create their characters then they will look alien

I will probably spend an hour (or three days) in the CC, but the first run is always a placeholder because I just get so hooked on the story and keep playing to see what happens next. I forget to take screenshots along the way, too. So round two is when I slow down the gameplay dramatically because I already know the story at this point. I'm playing again for screenshots and thus will spend more time in the CC.

My only rule is that Ryder can't look like Shepard because I want to move forward and not draw any comparisons between the two. So that means no blonde hair for canon Ryder. That's it.

yeah my first playthrough is all about learning the mechanics and controls and really just working through the main story. Based on the fact that it looks like MEA will handle differently from the trilogy it looks like I'm going to need to continue to do that. It's only when I've mastered the basics in my second/third run that I find I can start playing the game properly. I've got a couple of looks in mind that I'd like to do but it depends on the CC. I could see myself using Sara's default hair at some point as I do quite like it but I wouldn't use it on that face though.

I dunno what hair colour I'm gonna go with, assuming Sabine's various 'dos are, as I imagine will be the case, off the table. I'll probably find the closest thing the game has - I remember ME3 having one or two relatively 'out there' options, so hopefully Andromeda will have at least one - and go with that.

Agreed. I can see them at least doing like what they did with the eyes, where you could have the inner iris and outer iris different colors just applied to hair.
I understand not having it in Dragon Age kind of, but in Mass Effect it makes perfect sense since people dye their hair now and it is a pretty common trope in science fiction for unnatural hair colors. Bioware even did a couple in ME3 with female Shepard having access to pink and purple. Supposedly customization is bigger and better than ever before so it may happen. 
I love your idea for making a Sabine-inspired character. I was thinking of maybe doing the same thing.
