I would highly recommend not listening to the people on these forums. Scrubs, the of 'em. In all seriousness, I always highly recommend utilizing the basic human classes a lot for new players as they offer a good mobility, power sets to help with combos that hide weak starting weapons and the lower amount of shields will aid in needing to up your situational awareness for flanking enemies. As others have said, learning how to effectively use right hand advantage to avoid enemy fire while damaging them is one of the best ways to up your DPS and survival rate. Reload canceling is a valuable tool as well especially on low ammo/long reload weapons. From there, take your time and mess around with different builds to find the ones that fit your playstyle. There are different combinations on many characters that are very effective. Haha you guys are all i have for now. Determined to get good at this whilst still having my fun.I will look into reload cancelling and right hand advantage. Thanks

I played bronze for three hours and i cant even begin to describe how amazing it is Made sure to finish the objectives first. Also realized me and the banshee will never be friends anytime soon . Although i have feeling she might want a little more than that anyways. I have used three classes : Adept Vanguard Soldier Adept was lovely but i think vanguard takes the cake.Soldier was pale in comparison. And soldier was my starting class and i liked it alot but now that i realize the possibilities its hard to go back I've also played my first SP campaign as a Soldier. In MP, first time I tried it, it was really bad. What makes the difference is the next tier Assault Rifle, and that skill point that boosts your Grenade capacity (or at least that was when I've finally pulled him out of the cold storage and loved him hotly). I've also lucked out to get the Gear Warfare package earlier on, so I can pack 5 grenades. Grenades, despite being a very OCD feature, are awesome.
What I suggest you do, is leave him and let the cards to level him up to level 12-15. The cards that piles experience up level your 'stand-by' characters very quickly till about level 15. Once that happens, the skill points that will give you more grenades and increase your weapon damages on the Soldier will make it very playable. Do not hesitate to chuck grenades at large fresh spawns and bosses.
I really would recommend an Engineer at this early stage as well. His powers are matching, and Overload staggers the mobs allowing you both to live and to kill. Engi is playable right off the ground, but chances are, your Recruit packs had already given you cards for most of your base classes to be higher than level 1.
And, yay, another prevvy vanguard fancier (well, you are not, I am). With a good box to roll around, the sky is the limit! Rolling sideways is so awesome. They never expect it, I tell ya!
Banshees, once you get used to kiting around them are not that bad in my experience. They are loud, they are huge, they are lit up like a x-mas tree, and all their animations are very prominent, so you can see when they are about to warp you or can one-shot kill you. Scions, on the other hand, despite their size, have such subtle animation for their horrible attack of total Doom, that it drives me bonkers. Next to the X-treme Acid Rain on the Trailer Park Map it was the hardest thing for me to decipher (thanks, Inert, for explaining the Rain of Grievous DoT) from my embarrassingly long list of: "So.... Why I am dead?"

Yes that's exactly what im going to do for soldier. I will give the engineer and sentinel a try even though vanguard is hard to compete with now. Oh how could i forget the scion eurrrgh. You are correct he is worse than banshee. But banshee has a way of showing up when iam fully occupied with other enemies.Trying to survive and boom there she is lifting me to the sky. sneaky little thing I can remember the last time i had this much fun in a multiplayer game.

Totally. I went from the run-and-gun fever, to the collector's obsession with cards, and then to the: "I want to get sharper to get to the next Tier." Then, there is a part where I name my characters, and start getting attached (they have a soundset, and guns! I am so easy...). And the cheevo hunting part. And the N7 HQ being accessible for staring at and planning for having fun. All and all, addictive. And I only once came across a guy who was cursing all warzone long, and that was in Russian, so not too shabby.

Some advice to be a good team player: - always try to stay in the circle for hacks and escorts; do NOT stay near the teammate who is doing devices; clear the path for the pizza delivery and lastly help as much as you can with targets; - on extraction do NOT swarm the landing (extraction) zone despite what the idiot voice is telling you: stay away till the last 20-30sec and then rush to the LZ; - revive teammates, but be aware of their surroundings do NOT rush blindly; - learn what kit to use with your team (ex. if all your teammates are biotics it's almost never a good idea to play an engineer); - always try to find cover from which to shoot, as that gives you an advantage, also learn to dodge attacks (as someone said, your character's face is not cover ).

And soldier was my starting class and i liked it alot but now that i realize the possibilities its hard to go back I'm on the other side. I have been using HSol since forever. My turning point was a Pug game with Cyonan, pre-DLC days. We wiped, I blamed myself, ditched Infiltrators and never went back. Basically what you're looking at is one of the most underrated, damaging and versatile kits in MP, second to none when it comes to Claymore - a big, heavy, loud, artilery cannon. You'll love this. I can give you a quick rundown to speed your progress with this class. 1) Adrenaline Rush will provide you with anything you need. - Damage and DPS comes from free reloads. If you have a Mantis, shoot, activate Rush and shoot another shot. Quickly Reload-Cancel and shoot again. If you like hard-hitting low magazine weapons like me, this will be your everyday routine.
- Spec for Hardening, it will make all the diffrence in your survival.
- Melee (5B) is a useless option but you have to avoid long durations - you want Rush to charge as fast as you can.
- and Shield evolution (6A). When in danger, pop Rush to restore some Shields, add the 40% Damage Reduction and go Hard cover to replenish your shields faster. You can even cancel out DOT effects from Banshee's Warp or a rocket from an Atlas.
2) No matter what you'll hear, spec 3 points into Concussive Shot. It's crucial to your success. When fighting mooks throw a CC to force a reaction. It will either avoid it or get hit by it, and by that time, you'll have close the distance and land a clean headshot. It's a win-win strategy. Concussive shot will also detonate any tech explosion. If a teamate lands a Carnage/Incinarate/Oveload hit to an enemy, quickly detonate with CC. At low levels, spam it like mad. It does x4 damage to Barriers, so keep that in mind. 3) Frag. Damage + extra nade + any evolution you feel like. "Force a reaction" applies here as well, bosses included. An Atlas is about to lauch a missile to your face? Stagger his butt off with a Frag. Detonate combos. If more than one enemy appears in front of you looking for trouble, go wild with the grenades. The more you do it, the more fun it gets. 4) Improve your aiming and get informed all about enemies weak spots. Reload-Cancel even the Viper. 5) Smart positioning, covering and right-hand advantage. 6) Superior mobility. Either getting out of the enemy's line of fire or avoid getting sync-killed by a Banshee, I can't stress enough how important mobility is to you. Do not spam keys randomly, CONTROL your movements. Of course this is impossible for a new player to do with the Omnibutton, but that's retarded development for you. Ok, time for an example. Here is an Adrenaline and Claymore usage plus Reload-canceling and dodging techinics to avoid Ravager's fire. Pro tip: Be a team player, invest on the group. Help with the objectives. Don't be disappointed is something didn't work out. Failures are part of life. Try again. And be sure to let all the Reegar users bleed out. That pretty much covers the basics. Keep spamming your powers (double that for ConcShot for now) and keep spending credits as you have been told by other Forum members. Do your research, learn all about the game's mechanics, upgrade your arsenal, manage your resources, use your equipment, gather precious experience and hone your skills. Enjoy the game. With enough practice, you'll be an OneWomanArmy tm. Welcome onboard and happy HSoling!

I miss being a noob in this game. As far as tips I would give that aren't already mentioned. 1. For the human adept they have a way of cheesing the banshee in a way to get past its hand barrier that renders power to do like no damage at all as long as she has her hand up. As an example a banshee pulls her hand up after you primed her with warp (Should be fine with warp IIRC) or singularity, if you behind a wall like: HA = Human Adept = Banshee | = wall ---> HA (Throws shockwave behind wall) | <----- If you throw a shockwave behind a wall knowing that the banshee is on the other side, without having the targeting bubble that displays the target's barriers, health, armor and shields. You can pull of a biotic explosion without triggering her hand barrier. Although this may be problematic trying to pull it off with pugs that could ruin this trick but if you're alone with the banshee then you can pull this off easily. 2. This is a cool trick you can do with the human engineer or any character that has combat drone, decoy or geth turrets and sentry turrets (I think the turrets work with this trick). If you spec'd for the suicide route for the combat drone and casted it near a, banshee during her phase when she starts casting warps it will force out her screaming AOE attack, because the banshees perceive the combat drones as human players and will attempt to try shrug off the combat drone with her scream, which is really good because she has to briefly recover from it which allows time for power casting classes to do damage to the banshee, as opposed to caster classes not being able to damage while the banshee pulls her hand up and denies any damage from powers. 3. When up against praetorians going up to them briefly (While not in range of sync kill) and then backing out when it starts crawling on the ground is the best time to do as much damage to the praetorians because when it's hovering and you cast a power it will trigger the bubble that gives a damage reduction bonus (I don't if that's true or not) and also gets immunity to powers while it has the bubble similarly to the banshee hand barrier and the phantom's squat bubble technique

SPEND AN HOUR WITH ME AND YOU'LL GET IT DOWN IN NO TIME. I learned a lot from playing with @onityme and the select few from AHF. Protip: equip Reegar Carbine on all your classes. BE AN ENGINEER ANYWAY BECAUSE YUMMY SAYS SO.

Determined to get good at this whilst still having my fun.I will look into reload cancelling and right hand advantage. Thanks There's nothing quite like practice. It's easy for folk to mock 'lolbronze' if they are running with Ultra-Rare weapons at level X Keep an eye on which players seem to know what they are doing and back them up (unless they are an Infiltrator trying to run it alone). As a low-level player, being near the rest of the group (and not half way across the map) really helps. Whenever you die, consider what you could have done differently. Personally I don't find reload cancelling to be such a big deal at lower level because you won't be running Platinum anytime soon... Right Hand Advantage from soft cover is helpful, to keep you alive. And have fun with it...

If you read the in-game description for the M-8 Avenger, it states that it's "deadly when fired on full auto," so you'll probably want to use that. I mean, think about it, why would the game designers lie to you?

There are certain inside "jokes" people from BSN tend to do over and over again(such as the git gud). They don´t actually mean it. But new people don´t have a chance to understand that, so they might get offended even when it was not meant to be. If you may, don´t take it to your heart, folks around are just used to constant lighthearted poking. On topic: 1) Don´t be embarassed or shy with cover. It´s great thing that WILL help. If you need shields, go to cover. 2) Find good, shielded spots for reviving or device hacking. Particularly for hacking - rather then just run in and hack, position yourself to a spot that offers most cover possible or cover from more sides, glue yourself inside the wall if you can. For almost all devices, you can find some sort of spot covered like that. 3) Regularly check your back. You know that Geth hunter is coming! There are no girls on the internet. It's known.

I have learned the extraction rule from you guys so i follow it to the T.Very good tips there. Always tend to try and save team mates which sometimes ends up with me being down too.Need to work on that. As far as what kit to use with team mates i'm totally clueless. So no engineer with biotics .Are there any other classes that clash too ?.

If your teammate is down, make sure you cleared out the cause of his/her demise first, then revive, unless you are an infiltrator and can sneak in undetected, and stealth-res. Most particularly, if he's found where that Phantom was the hard way, be very wary. Not taking down a smug Scion or Ravager gleefully perched on that high ground, that got your BFF down in the middle of the most widely open part of the entire zone is a recipe for (at the very best) a chain of death and res'es.
As for dealing with cussing, I emply my very personal Zinner Zkinner Filter, that magically converts anything into civilized speech in any language. For example, a typical PvP log is converted into this:
Muchomacho: "My dear friend, I have grave doubts in respect to your mental health providing the unfortunate timing of your incoming call." Reallycoolgunz: “Long Live reproduction!” Facepalm: "Muchomacho, Sir, I respectfully draw your attention to the unanimous and negligent disregard given to the previous two calls readily available for your esteemed review on the record." Oldboy: “I arrived to an unfavorable prognosis and I subscribe to a fundamental belief in preserving my dignity at all costs. Cao!”
Deceptively Neutral UI Voice: Oldboy has logged out Deceptively Neutral UI Voice: Amnew has joined your party
Amnew: “Hail, oh Band of Brothers! It’s my first time on the battlefield!” Muchomacho: “Long Live reproduction!” Reallycoolswordz: “Long Live reproduction!” Reallycoolgunz: “Long Live reproduction!” Facepalm: "Comrades in arms! INCREASE YOUR EFFORTS URGENTLY! In the name of reproductive health!" Reallycoolgunz: “Long Live reproduction!”
Amnew: “Halt, Brethren! You omitted to share the secret and complex strategy that you no doubts devised for this highly fascinating activity prior to the wise fates sending me your way!” Muchmacho: “What can I say, you are truly a gift!” Amnew: “Thank you! So what can I do in this corner of the vastly unfamiliar terrain?” Muchomacho: “I am impressed by your ability to vocalize, oh the ray of sunshine! However I prefer that you contemplatively engage in an alternative form of reproduction with an end-goal to self-perpetuate.” Reallycoolgunz: “Long Live reproduction!”
Muchomacho: “Facepalm, on an unrelated note, I offer observations on your sexual orientation." Reallycoolswordz: "I strongly dispute Facepalm’s sexual orientation, but peculiarly your remark brought to my mind quite a few assumptions about your family's intimate life." Reallycoolgunz: “Long Live reproduction!” Reallycoolgunz: “Long Live reproduction!” Reallycoolgunz: “Long Live reproduction!” Facepalm: “Gentlemen, it is apparent that we are on the verge of acting on the passionate feelings we’ve so rapidly developed for one another in a festive display of fertility rites!” Reallycoolswordz: “Long Live reproduction!” Reallycoolgunz: “Long Live reproduction!”
Deceptively Neutral UI Voice: “The Battleground is over. Standby for the denouement. Logging out will result in losing a paltry equivalent of what is known as rewards on the winning side.”
Amnew: “Oh, my, it has concluded! Have I acquired anything that will make my next experience of fighting side by side with you even more exhilarating?” Muchomacho: “Proceed to a location where you could resume the self-perpetuation, if you would be so kind.” Muchomacho: "Reallycoolgunz and Reallycoolswordz, let’s critically examine the numbers that are prominently displayed on the screen.” Reallycoolswordz: “Long Live reproduction!” Reallycoolgunz: “Long Live reproduction!” Reallycoolswordz: “I cannot fathom that it had escaped your attention that a virtual absence of medical assistance was a contributing factor on top of the infinitely large number of questionable judgment calls on your part.”
Muchomacho: "FYI, should something untoward happen to all of you in the not so distant future, I shall not be distressed." Facepalm: “May you test the limits of the anatomical probabilities.”

3. When up against praetorians going up to them briefly (While not in range of sync kill) and then backing out when it starts crawling on the ground is the best time to do as much damage to the praetorians because when it's hovering and you cast a power it will trigger the bubble that gives a damage reduction bonus (I don't if that's true or not) and also gets immunity to powers while it has the bubble similarly to the banshee hand barrier and the phantom's squat bubble technique Any means of messing with the banshee is fine by me.Shockwave behind a wall? The things you guys discover is insanely good. I'm sure i will try it in the future. Can't quite solo anything yet.Thank you.

Oh the struggle of starting out.I've narrowed my mistakes to rushing like a bull in a china shop to revive a teammate and like docsteely said using my face as cover.Eliminating those asap.

Has someone already mentioned the magical STAIRS? I haven´t noticed it being mentioned. It´s a dirty trick, not intended by designers I believe, so use it or don´t as you see fit...as long as both you and Banshee are standing on stairs, she won´t be able to instakill you, provided that you are not on same level(be either above or below her)

If you read the in-game description for the M-8 Avenger, it states that it's "deadly when fired on full auto," so you'll probably want to use that. I mean, think about it, why would the game designers lie to you?
