Max common weapons first to level ten by buying recruit packets, then you can move up to silver. On silver, max uncommon weapons first by buying veteran packs, then you're clear for gold. Gold is mostly try and error then. You may ask about Platinum later, if you have done the previous steps successfully. Heck, somehow I'd like to start a second account and begin with a plat solo!!! Oh my god.^^ Thanks that cleared up the pack issue for me. I was buying this and then that.I've had someone say the order didn't matter. But i see now that it does. In fact, the order doesn't matter. Besides, the store won't give weapons, kits, or weapon mods when you nearly maxed them out at some point. You will only get consumables anymore. That's why everyone calls it lolstore or unmixed manifest problems. So don't be surprised. But it should be easier with a fresh manifest. The gear will stay, if used. It's not a consumable.

Don't know if the OP knows but I'll share it anyway in case it wasn't mentioned yet.
When consuming your thermal clip pack you get a 100% additive weapon damage bonus for 10 seconds and it stacks as well if you consume more than one thermal clip pack. Consuming your thermal clip pack also gives you an instant reload.
So you can do interesting things like for example: Triple claymore via claymore shot, adrenaline rush for instant reload, then use thermal clip pack for another instant reload. ^ same trick but with the javelin.
Or you can do something insane which I think should theoretically work is getting off 9 shots of the AT-12 raider shotgun while using the human soldier by: shoot the 3 shots off of the raider, adrenaline rush for another 3 shots then thermal clip pack then shoot another 3.
Also I said 3 shots off of the raider because using this gun off host makes you have an extra shot at the end after using the 2 shots in the magazine. Using the AT-12 raider on host will only give you the 2 shots in the magazine.

When pugging Gold or Plat, and the pugs feel the need to focus fire an Atlas, never, I repeat never, stand next to one of the Noobs, it will save you the embarrassment of taking splash damage from that inevitable rocket that will hit you(and cursing the gods as to WTF just happened)even though that scrubby Atlas cant see you
Never revive noob pugs who die anywhere but at your feet, unless you are working on Commando Mastery of 50 revives, trying to save pugs is nothing more than a trap to get you to use up more of your valuable consumables since you will need them to clutch all of the remaining waves for your assisted Solo, or the 4 man theme challenge, whichever applies

If a player dies, they didn't die for no reason, treat whatever is going on at that spot with caution. It is their responsibility to get up themselves, only waiting for a free pick-up if it's safe. If you can't reach them safely, don't, their death was on them, their rescue is not on you. If you are standing over their bleeding body and have to focus on defending yourself instead of reviving them, that's just fine. Consumables are there to be used, there are no achievements for having 255 of something. A wiped mission for the sake of a medi-gel is wasted time and effort (unless deemed a hopeless situation). And head-butt your Krogan after a success

But I will add - headbutt your teammate with your krogan before, during and after.

Hi Maplesyrup. I have not played for quite a few months (in fact, too long) and plan to get back into it with ME:A coming out in the near future. Here are some of the major points I think will best help noobs (and old noobs like me returning). IMO, the game is all about killing stuff and killing stuff fast. It has a long and steep learning curve. And the game loves to "troll" you.
1. Move! Use soft cover to break line of sight and protect your flank. Hard cover is momentarily useful to get back shields, mitigate damage, and improve weapons accuracy, but soft cover and movement allow you to know what is around you--both positional awareness of teammates and the enemy which is trying to flank you. And they will try and flank you. If the enemy is swarming you, run away! Then reset and resume. Moving will also help you learn the maps.
2. Right hand advantage. Poking your weapon out to the right side from behind soft cover. You can shoot the enemy, the don't have line of sight on you!
3. Headshots. The game rewards headshots with a damage bonus and you kill stuff faster. Go for headshots whenever able.
4. Combos. Learn the various biotic combos and tech bursts--they can be very powerful. As you unlock and build your character kits, you will want to be able to prime and detonate. Many kits have this in mind when the developers designed them. There are all sort of Kalence builds out there for ideas. Working with a teammate (1 primes, 1 detonates) is very effective.
5. Objectives. Help with the objectives and get them done--fast! Get in the hack or drone circle, get on the device, grab or cover the package ("pizza") delivery. Enemies keep spawning as long as the objectives linger. If you are an infiltrator, it is generally accepted that you will be a primary device doer. If a teammate is one a device, move away (not toward unless you are going to put up a bubble or drop a hex shield) and provide cover fire. If the hack circle is getting overrun, move! Leave it and draw the enemy away--don't get flanked. When safe, get back in it. It may be helpful as a sniper to not be in the circle but provide cover fire from a distance and high ground.
6. Teamwork! It is a team game after all--you all get the same credits in the end. Try to maintain contact with the team. You can then provide cover fire for each other, more effectively cover your flanks, be near to revive fallen teammates, and most importantly, mass firepower--to kill stuff fast! Don't be the guy or gal who races off to die alone on the other side of the map. IMO, the is no "kill stealing" unless you are into score-whoring. There is "kill helping" and whether you get the kill or I do is not nearly as important as quickly dispatching the enemy. Killing stuff fast moves the game along and enhances your chances of surviving. Just be thinking, how can I help the team at this moment?
7. Its been said but never camp the LZ for extraction. I would argue that you want a defensible position far from the LZ so you can "kite" (lead) enemies away. If you camp it, you will, repeat will, be overrun on higher difficulties. With 30-20 seconds to go, then head that way, but think about what path is clear and available before then.
8. Gear up soldier! Use consumables and equip gear. It helps the game go faster, better, and shows you are vested in the team success. If you go in "naked", I may bail the lobby because I wonder if you will rage-quit on wave 4. Missiles -- best to save them for later waves and wave 10 objectives which go bad. Good to have 1 in the hip pocket while running to the LZ and your path is suddenly blocked by 2 phantoms and 4 goons. Gels -- let your teammates get you up and save them for later rounds. You will be glad you did. If you are going to get stomped or close to bleeding out and help is not on the way, then gel. Don't bleed out unless it is early in the game and /or near the end of the wave and you know your team can wrap things up. Always have some kind of pierce capability--weapon mod, ammo, or both.
9. Learn to solo. You say, I can barely get through Bronze with 3 teammates. But eventually, you need to try this once your manifest gets better. You will learn a lot about movement, surviving, and killing fast--even if you fail. And you will and it's ok. Its a useful skill to have when all your teammates are down and you have to clutch the wave.
10. Just have fun! It is a great game. Occasional rage-gelling or rage-rockets are permitted as is locking your teammates in the reactor
Hope this is helpful to our noobs. Welcome to the game!

Never use explosive ammo. It prevents combos and is generally useless.

I didn't know that. Searched the interwebz and found Capn's test video. Still ain't using it, but now I won't have to be aggravated when I see it in the lobby. Thanks!

I once read on the old bsn that the detonation of explosive rounds triggers a praetorian's power immunity bubble. So even if it doesn't block combos, that alone would make it better choosing no ammo at all over explosive ones.

On the extraction wave (11) you have two objectives: 1- Survive! and 2- Extract! Due to the unpredictable nature of spawning on this wave, you'd better abstain from killing stupidly and you should do your best to keep enemies away from the LZ. I can only think of two justified reasons to use a missile: to save your (or a teammate's) arse from a sync-kill or to clear the LZ in the last seconds (well, except when you have abombs=possessed abominations in the LZ when it's definitely not a good idea) . Everything else is just score-whoring and you should avoid the players who do that.

Don't forget about the underlying Classy™ system. You earn/lose Classy points depending on your behavior. Melee Kit +2 Reegar -15 Flamer -5 Snap Freeze -2 AIU+Reegar -25 AIU+Claymore 0 Melee AIU +1 TGI+Harrier -25 TGI+Saber 0 Geth Trooper+Acolyte. -15 Grenade spam -5 Adept +1 Soldier +1 Engineer +1 Sentinel +1 Infiltrator 0 Vanguard +1 Krogan Vanguard vs. Geth -15 Krogan Warlord vs. Geth -15 Wave 11 Missiles -50 per missile. Doing an objective +10 Ignoring objective -50 Using equipment +5 Rage Gel +1 No syncs as a vanguard +3 75 Kills Medal 0 50 Assists Medal +1 20 Headshots +5 Switching class to match lobby +5 Saving a teammate from sync with a missile +3 Saving a teammate from sync with a thermal clip boost +10 Being a BSNer +1 Complaining about kill stealing: -10 (-1 if Krogan/Vorcha) Agree with everything, with the exception of Kroguard and Krolord against Geth. There is nothing more cathartic in this game than bashing the heads of the most cheating, therefore loathsome faction of enemies; want me to enumerate the countless reasons I say that? So, imo, it should be: Krogan Vanguard or Krogan Warlord against geth -15 IF NO 50 melee kills medal else +1

docsteely Perhaps, but maybe do it solo/private. I don't care to join lobbies where I can basically kick my feet up. Granted, it's nowhere near as bad as a public hacked lobby though. Maybe -5 for each and 0 if 50 melee kills.

GETH NEED TO BE PUNISHED!!!
