Reyes Vidal - No longer A Mystery (Official Thread)

Oh yeah, I’ve understood that mostly Cora and Jaal have received attention. Makes me wonder if they’ve looked at telemetry data and it’s something like 90% m!Ryders choose Cora and 90% of f!Ryders choose Jaal, and consequently they’ve decided to just bury the other LIs.

If there’s more content ever, hopefully Liam gets his fair share too.  It’s weird that what I assumed was main romance for Sara wasn’t given more attention.

Dr Pepper You’re the first case I’ve heard that doesn’t have this glitch in the Scott/Reyes dance, if I understood correctly. It only occurs if you choose the logical dialogue option, mind. If it only occurs on PCs, that might explain why devs don’t care.

Huh, that must be from before I reached that state in the game (on the first time I picked up the “consider me hacked” option though). Incredible, why can’t they change whatever they changed back to the original state? Frostbite must be hell. It was just perfectly fine before. Thanks for finding this vid, this is useful.

Thank you (and everybody else doing the same). I’m not really expecting anything, but at least we’ve tried! The post has gotten way higher on the bug report forum, so that’s something.

For the hell of it, I made a reddit post too. Might get downvoted to death immediately, but I figure this is the best opportunity to gain any visibility and therefore reason for BW to do anything at all. To everyone that wishes that I’d shut up already, I think I’ve done all that I can now.


Moving on, I’m never going to figure the Editor out, but I did notice some minor character abstracts in the game files. These probably have been found out before and they contain no new information, but I haven’t noticed posts about them here yet.

Reyes’ decription: “Reyes Vidal presents himself to the player as a smuggler and contact of the Angaran Resistance, but he is secretly the Charlatan, one of the two major pirate lords vying for power in Kadara Port. He is charming and driven, but ultimately selfish and values himself above others.”
“Han Solo handsome--rugged but put together.”
“Lovable rogue”
“Accent: A very slight Chilean accent.”
“SpeechPattern: Casual, friendly with a flirty undertone.”
“Age range: 29”

Sloane’s: “Sloane Kelly also known as the "Outcast Queen" is a "Robin Hood" figure who leads the Outcast Legion pirate faction by holding the spoils of war in one hand and a loaded gun in the other. A hardened survivor from the Nexus rebellion, she holds a deep personal grudge against the Andromedia Initiative--and, by association, the Pathfinder.”
“Attractive but tough. Like Furiosa from Mad Max.”
“SpeechPattern: Snappy, direct”
“Accent: South African”
“Age range: 32”

Outcasts are referred to as “Outcast Legion” and the Collective as “Crimson Collective”. The latter especially sounds purple and unprofessional, so I’m glad they stripped the extraneous parts.

Keema: “Angaran representative to the Outcast Queen. Middle-aged and fabulous.”

Keema’s not super fabulous IMO, Sloane’s more Immortan Joe than Furiosa (and looks like neither), but Reyes seems spot on to the concepts. I’d love to see concept art for him.

Oh yea, and Kaetus was described as card game addict that feels safe enough to cheat when playing with Sloane. That seems like it was dropped; he’s always on the edge about work in the game.

Those descriptions are interesting. I only knew Reyes', which fits him, his age was also confirmed on twitter as late twenties. Kaetus' is likely outdated, yes. The fabulous Keema . She has some flair for the dramatic for sure and seems posh.

The old faction names sound a bit silly.

I also think Sloane is older than early thirties, she has those wrinkles. Either that, or the last year was really tough for her. In the old footage she looked too young, imo. Too bad they don't update the entries when things are changed.

I don't get the Jaal thing -- I tried at first and it felt like Sara was dating the father she never had or something. Then he started to seem a little obsessed and creeped me out. Then we met Reyes and I was like, BYE

Also, good points about drinking. Reyes must really be good at keeping his shit together at any circumstances. Enjoying your drinks while running a secret shady operation can't be exactly fun business. You lose control once, game over.

Reyes is Kian's best customer too. Or maybe that's just because he rents that huge room.

Not sure I could keep up with Reyes IRL, he and Ryder just keep chugging that super rare whisky straight from the bottle. I require a glass of water nearby at all times for balance. At Kralla’s there’d need to be at least vodka for variety’s sake.

Okay what does that glow thing refer to? I don’t get it.

I hadn't realized previously just close to each other they were standing... Imagine if MEA had ME2's cinematic direction? In this cutscene, the lightning doesn't look good on Reyes (optimized for fair skinned default!Ryder?), and even though the characters are arranged in a more novel way than usual, it's just mostly close-ups of faces again. That hand on his hip, their stances and proximity, all could be utilized better with clever angles. You could even show Drack there, with his arms folded (made me laugh when I saw that), shake his head in impatience.

Well, anyway, I like the shiny, shiny hair. It looks so soft and silky, and I like to imagine Reyes going to lengths to keep it maintained.

Good likeness in that art, I like. The artist has captured Reyes' smile right, too.

Edit: Oh and credit where credit's due: the droopy eyes that patch 1.08(I think?) gave to Reyes, were fixed in 1.09, so thanks for that. The conversation before the dance looked way better with Reyes not having his eyes half-closed as in a stupor.
