I thought of it as if the 600 years refer to the time since we left space for the first time to the point when Andromeda starts too, so Andromeda is approx. 400 years from the end of ME3 away.

'Cause prolly the story is too big and not moving quickly enough to cover. An analogy. The gulf oil spill. The spill is still ongoing (I believe), but it lost its sex appeal the minute that everybody caught wind of it and starting covering it.

I wonder how long before the invasion the(se) ark(s) were built. Part of me is hoping they just retcon it in there cuz I think an undertaking of this scale being done in complete, perfect secrecy is STUPID, but w/e.
If they wanna make a really clean break they might put all the emphasis on exploration and not danger/escape/contingency in which case the ark(s) might have gone before there were even whispers of the reapers.

Earth is our species point of origin in ME universe so your point is kinda lost there... Probably, I agree...(Just speculating (I can have some fun too, can't I?) I was wondering about that. Dad Ryder is talking like the recruitment was happening on that moment so i also think it may be possible that 600 years refer to the time since the first Moon landing... Or we are wrong and that is just the time it took to travel to Andromeda via "normal" FTL. For now i will be keeping both ideas in mind. Keeping it all in mind is about all we can do until something definitive is released. Bioware is certainly good at being vague enough to promote speculation in several different directions at once. Should maybe start a betting pool... but I have dibs on the departure date being July 20, 2569, OK? (won't be the first bet I've lost )

Was it DadRyder VA talking? Sounds dad enough. That's what I'm wondering! Clancy Brown = Dad Nolan North = Dude Ryder ???? = Fem Ryder Time to start asking people on twitter.

Christ dude, your posts... We are leaving Earth, our home. Ryders are looking at it nostalgically (probably). The game is called ANDROMEDA, the focus will not be on Earth. Jesus. "Can't handle not being able to play as aliens" I see no problem with "humanity made it". Yes that's the easiest way for most people to make some kind of connection to the characters. ME will always have a human antagonist and the focus will always be on the human understanding of the alien worlds and relations, if you can't deal with it, well that's your problem. This teaser is great and it will attract people not familiar/following game development closely to watch out for N7 day announcements. Second, the marketing train is arguably just starting. You cannot expect aliens to make it as poster boys/girls right away. Explorers wanted posters, for example, had a Krogan in them. They will diversify it, but focus is on humans (and there is nothing wrong with that).

He said "600 years from where we stand" ... which is on the moon, with the Ark ships in orbit and what I took as Arkcon support and supply facilities on the surface.
Hey, ya know, either could be correct ... and frankly, whether a 400 or 600 year jump, they all are multiple generations and lifetimes past the MET.

If they wanna make a really clean break they might put all the emphasis on exploration and not danger/escape/contingency in which case the ark(s) might have gone before there were even whispers of the reapers. I don't entirely think the point is secrecy. From what I can gather, Mass Effect 3 seems like a classic "Total War" situation. So it would make sense that a vast amount of resources, technology and personnel would be involved with making ships. I don't think most people would bat an eye at it, and just believe it was all part of the war effort. Its also kind of hard to bat an eye at or investigate something when the Reapers are hella coming for your planet. It would make sense that the Ark(s) would have such a vast amount of resources, labor and advanced and experimental technology put into building them, in preparation for war or extinction. The arks definitely seem like an absolute last resort, given how technologically advanced and threatening the Reapers are, and that only a comparatively small amount of resources and effort would be used to build arks, and still leave a vast majority for the war effort, keeping secrecy and almost no one the wiser.

I am fine with beginning the game on or around Earth. Were it real, and I was picked to go on the Ark, I would place my hand on the window, look out at Earth and say, goodbye big blue marble that is Earth. I will miss you -- a little bit.

Andromeda could be a steaming pile of shit, and I still wouldn't want to see another gamer 'backlash' - y'know, with the death threats and all - come out of it. Seriously, people need to chill the fuck out. It's fine to get excited, it's fine to be disappointed, but neither feeling's justification for that sort of shit. Death threats make me laugh my candy ass off, like seeing people on youtube cry their eyeballs out when Negan bashed Glenn's eyeball out. Overractions amuse me to no end. Still, extreme or otherwise, those reactions make a point. Bioware thinks their shit don't stink and they instead backed themselves into a solid steel wall with their "artistic integrity", and the only way they could erase their mistake is to fast forward a gazillion years into the future where absolutely nothing in the original trilogy matters. You're right, death threats and similar overreactions do make a point. They make the point that those fans are a bunch of pricks with the emotional maturity of children.

The spill is still ongoing (I believe), but it lost its sex appeal the minute that everybody caught wind of it and starting covering it. I remember in the E3 2016 video we see 3 arks and 6 shuttles. I thought it might mean they superficially paired species in each ark: humans/salarians (like each other's food) , asari/krogan (comparable lifespans) , and turians/quarians (similar biochemistry). It would be exciting if each day we got a unique perspective for each of the species and their reasons for joining the AI.

Take that, moon-landing deniers! Anyone think this might be an in-game recruitment video, not just a promo? Is the voice asking Earthers to join the Initiative (and, in parallel, fans)? That would mean the Initiative was not a secret at all. Some frames I wanted to call out. Maybe these should go in CSI:BSN? What is the emblem on the second suited character's chest? And what is the name on the ark ship? Looks like HYPERON? Hyperion would make more sense, but I can't see an I. Larger image here.
