The worst for me is rather people trying to claim that it makes absolutely sense that the nomad has no weapons. An explorer, especially in mass effect is not unaware of dangers of space, and hostile environments. An explorer would still need to take into account the factor that his mission could be epic fail if he doesn't take a few mesures to protect himself. But I don't bother to argue, I just shrugg. The topic is not important enough for me to waste my breath lol. We have a briefing about first contact's protocols. I wonder what they will say that. "If we meet an advance life form in the Helius Cluster, let's just hope they are friendly because we no weapons to protect ourselves!". Actually, I wouldn't be surprised if the whole Nexus has stealth tech. While I agree on not having weapons, the video said it doesn't have a main gun. The tempest can still have weapons.

Wait....the tempest AND the nomad have no main guns????????? WTF?!?!?! Because they're "for exploration" obviously. I mean it's not like our Pathfinder, the person dedicated to exploring the frontier, can walk around and enter into conversations with new, previously undiscovered aliens armed with: Two shotguns Combat specific ammunition (like incendiary and armor piercing rounds) A combat oriented taser (Overload) Weaponized Biotics Combat drones Grenades An actual flame-thrower Anything ranging from a close quarters combat knife to a sword Plus whatever the other two squad mates are carrying That would be ridiculous, and completely at odds with our weaponless, exploration focused means of transportation.

They haven't done a showcase of that since DAO. I have to disagree with you. They have done those kind of showcases with games more recent than that. They've done it a bit with the Shepard Trilogy, and DAI showed that a bunch. The only such example from DAI I remember is the Crestwood fight, which ended up being cut from the game anyway. More attention was drawn to high dragon battles anyway. Here's the only showcase I recall from Mass Effect:

I do hope they'll reveal, either now or in-game, that the Initiative has a some warships, or at least some plans to built them quickly.

I've gone through the video and pulled out screenshots of all the rooms and such. Along with a couple of starship .gifs, naturally. Main Bridge

It actually reminds me in no small part of that other starship, in my signature, particularly with the use of wood and focus on crew comfort.

My guess, from an in-universe engineering stand point, is that the Tempest did in fact have a main gun, but they had to remove it to make room for the Pathfinder's cabin.

Unless TIM lent the AI the Star Forge, I don't see how they can quickly build up any kind of defensive flotilla. plus get enough trained crew for one anyway.

I think the reason the nomad has no weapons is for combat reasons they want you to fight the enemy on foot not just drive up to them and kill everyone with a cannon would make a lot of outdoor fights easy and less challenging.

So the Tempest and Nomad are more for recon than anything else. My bet is that your main job is not to conquer or fight so weapons are small, or simple do not exist. Maybe we will see the military side too at some point with Ryder father but the vibe I get from ME:A is more on the exploration side.

Edit: I actually wished in retrospect I'd passed on watching these (though I did skip the game intro one), since they showed too much of the game in my opinion and spoiled those parts for me. So I won't watch them if MEA does it. But I do understand why some people would want to see that. I do agree however that the briefings are not the place to expect such a thing, and we might see some longer demos before launch (they've already promised a 15-minute one at some point) so that's where people should look for the more substantial stuff.

My guess, from an in-universe engineering stand point, is that the Tempest did in fact have a main gun, but they had to remove it to make room for the Pathfinder's cabin. Why? Because what practical use is there for a massive open space on the top of a ship except to mount a weapon emplacement or additional armor? Seeing as how the Pathfinder's cabin is occupying that prime real estate, coupled with the pilot's admission that there is no main gun, would seem to indicate that it either had to be removed or excluded from the design of the ship in order to accommodate that enormous living space. That or the higher ups in the Andromeda Initiative didn't think that measly things like ship mounted weapons would be necessary in securing a new home in uncharted space within an unexplored galaxy. Either way somebody done goofed.

However i'm not liking the seemingly unarmed tempest and completely unarmed rover. I'll be naming them my 'Brave sir Robins' because as they valiantly run away.

I have yet to see anything in-game or Codex-wise though out the entire series that indicates humanity is some kind of scrappy underdog. Humanity in Mass Effect is about as much of an underdog as The Flash is in a footrace against quadriplegics.

Yes, I do recall seeing section of what turned out to be In Hushed Whispers. I also recall they implied that Dorian and Leliana were there by player choice and events could unfold differently if different choices were made (which turned out to be untrue, they were both required to be there) I recall there was also stuff shown of Fallow Mire, but that was just combat. I don't recall the first half hour being shown, but I'll take your word for it.
