Apparently you can also mod a weapon to use the old style heat sink which means infinite ammo, but the weapon will overheat. Sounds really cool.

I like this video very much. The weapon kick and weight feel is there, as opposed to previous trailers where it was absent.

Have they always reloaded the katana like a break action shotgun, with shells coming out and all? That seemed odd to me, since aren't ME weapons supposed to just have blocks of metal that they shave off when they fire? That's the ammo... what's getting ejected there are thermal clips (ie. disposable heat sinks that store thermal energy building up when firing).

Is the progress bar not progressing for anybody else? I've watched the new briefing 3 times now, and it's still at 4/6. Edit: I had to rewatch the previous briefing for some reason, although I'm a 100 % sure that I had watched it on the site before. It shows 5/6 now, so I guess everything's fine.

They've come up with a new justification for ammo pick-ups (basically, the "pick-ups" are things that your suit automatically breaks down for material to manufacture thermal clips), so that means they can have different weapons' thermal clips look like whatever instead of having a generic thermal clip.

It's different from how it was in the OT and looks a lot like what was shown in some of the earliest footage of the game: That's what I wrote at first, but since kinetic energy in this case is literally "heat" - thus thermal - I changed it. Anywho... the whole concept of mass effect weapons was changed between ME1 and 2, to include disposable ammo as a gameplay mechanic. They are kinda going back on it in MEA, though, since thermal clips will be created automatically by your omni tool, and no longer will be picked up in the field. So, in essence, it's just another "overheating" mechanic now.

I'd need to watch it again to check the sequence of events, but Liam did start talking about modded shotgun grenade-launchers around that time. Maybe we were seeing that particular setup? That's the ammo... what's getting ejected there are thermal clips (ie. disposable heat sinks that store thermal energy building up when firing). At least I can mod that, too, if it's not to my liking.

Looks like they've addressed one of the balance issues of ME3 where assault rifles were sometimes lighter than pistols - good to see the Avenger at double the weight of the Carnifex.

Damn.. that Ark looks a lot like a Collector ship if you think about it.
Couple of things:
*Blood Pack Punisher. Ehm, yeah? I guess the gun is cool, haven't used it heaps so I'm not really attached to it, but it's here. Another proof that most of the trilogy weapons will make a return.
*Ehh.. now there're casings? I'm going to say that again. There are casings. So we have a weapon system that uses a block of metal as ammo, gets cut in tiny pieces inside the gun and gets propelled using mass effect fields. There are no casings in such system. What the actual F***? Seriously you're going to tell me that the gun also creates fake casings so they can be dropped once you replace your heatsink thermal clip? Jesus... alright moving on...
*Still prefer the Avenger sound of ME2, but this is definitely and improved over the weak sound of the ME3 Avenger.
All in all, I like these briefings, they're kinda cool. Liam's voice is pretty cool too.

We know that most of the disposable heat sinks that we use will be fabricated by out omni tool, so it might be the case that the heat sinks we put in our weapons will be more individualized to the weapon, and possibly per-round instead of per-clip. Of course, i'm probably totally overthinking it. Someone at Bioware probably just thought that the katana ejecting clips looked cool, but it seems like there could be valid, lore friendly ways to make it work.

Thermal clips were always portrayed as a single piece, one cylinder relatively big. I don't get why they can't follow they own lore sometimes.

"You might as well be going back to limite ammunition". All my weapons will use the old overheating tech, it was never much of a problem as long as you remember to fire in bursts.

All in all, I like these briefings, they're kinda cool. Liam's voice is pretty cool too. This isn't the first time we've had the casings issue. Zaeed ejects a hot casing in his loyalty mission, and causes a strut/upright to collapse on himself. I always cringe, and tell myself it's a heat sink. The N7 Typhoon spews casings, as if it's firing 20C ammunition. It's a nice touch, except that it's completely out of place. They mess this stuff up all the time. The rifles in MEA still appear to fire from the scope, rather than the barrel, in most of the vids I've bothered to check. It's annoying, but most people just aren't sharp enough to keep track of the details. This clearly includes many game devs. Edit: partially ninja'd by you

The Thermal Clips you find in the world and the ones you eject from your weapon are a different size. It's a video game thing. In ME2 the YMIR mech dropped Thermal Clips with each shot (much like the Typhoon) and the Hot Casing Zaeed uses is a Thermal Clip. I'm not sure I like the multiple Thermal Clips dropped out of the shotgun, but I like the new reload animations in general.

That's the thing though, we aren't actually using the same exact design of thermal clips as before. Apparently the reason we can still use the disposable heat sink system in a new galaxy where no standardized disposable heat sinks should be commonly available is that our omni tool uses certain materials to fabricate them in the field. Since everything is fabricated on the fly, there's no reason for any sort of standardized design, so different weapons can each use their own heat sink design based on what is most effective and easiest to make.

I'm not sure I like the multiple Thermal Clips dropped out of the shotgun, but I like the new reload animations in general. There's no way each "round" from the Typhoon should expend a thermal clip, and game mechanics surely don't support as much. Such thinking is simply a fan's effort to apply lore to devs' casual sloppiness. The Typhoon's strength lies in rate of fire, not in power per shot. I, too, apply this logic too Zaeed's scene. I feel they should've used consistent coloring, though, to make their intention clear. YMIRs are irrelevant, as far as I'm concerned, since they could very well carry loose ammunition on-board; or massive heat sinks; or whatever else suits the narrative. (I've never read up much on the YMIR.)

Bioware really is going overkill with weapons selection and mods. Me like it.
Also I do love the new and improved weapons animations.
