So we know a few things about romance: - There are more nuanced romance options this time around. It's more than just: conversation, conversation, flirt, flirt, conversation, flirt, sexy time. Some characters will be able to have sexy time right away; others will take longer to woo. Romance looks different for different characters
- Some characters will be okay with you romancing multiple characters at the same time
- There are going to be more "romance options" this time than any other Bioware game, but it sounds like this is including the 'quasi-romance flirt' types like Scout Harding and Diana Allers
So......if they are following the same general principal of having at least one straight, bisexual, and gay/lesbian option per gender (plus it sounds likely that they might even be more than one of some of these categories that count as "full romance options" and, given that it's ME, I predict multiple romances for a straight BroRyder), who do you think are going to be the LI's in this game?
My predictions: - Cora - I can't imagine the only female human squadmate not being a romance option, especially since from the little we've seen of her, she seems young and pretty. My prediction is that she'll be an option for Scott only given that we've yet to see the straight male PC denied the female human squaddie as an option so far.
- Liam - Similarly, I can't see the only male human squadmate not being a romance option either. So I predict that he'll definitely be an option for Sara. Possibly one for Scott as well.
- Pee Bee - Romancing an asari lady just seems like it's a must-have for ME games. Pee Bee is our new major asari, so I think she's a lock. Every major asari LI (or quasi LI) that we've run across is basically pansexual, so my prediction is that Pee Bee will be available for both Scott and Sara.
- Vetra - It would be the ultimate trolling if they included a female turian and didn't make her an LI. I mean, I could practically hear the ovaries and testes exploding the moment that she steps on screen in that new trailer. So I think she's also a lock. The question is: what sexuality will she have? She seems like a lock for the lesbian option -- we'd need a major character who is a lesbian and she's likely the only female squaddie left since I doubt that Cora or Pee Bee will be. But then -- is that too similar to Nyreen? Two lesbian turians out of two female turian squaddies? So, I'm going to predict that she'll actually be the second 'straight' option and she'll be an option for Scott.
- Drack - Doubtful
- Dr. Lexi - Another female asari in a support role on the ship? She's possible but only as a fling, I'd bet. And, again, she'll be an option for both Scott and Sara
- Jian - I have a feeling that she won't be long for the game's narrative, so I think she's out
- Foster, Nakmor, & Sloan - Possible for flings (especially given that we've seen Sloan showing up in a questline), but it's too early to say
- Unnamed Salarian Pilot - Possible for fling, but doubtful, in my opinion given what we know about their life cycles and reproduction. Although I guess he could be a 'romantic' option only. Too soon to say.
So I'd say that, right now, we're looking at these options:
- Scott: Cora, Pee Bee, Vetra, Dr. Lexi, Liam (?)
- Sara: Pee Bee, Liam, Dr. Lexi
Thoughts?

There aren't enough romanceable men there. They might not be squadmates, but it's a little unusual thus far.
We'll have to see what happens with the Andromeda native. If it turns out that they're a guy (if you're gunning for sex ratio balance, that has to be the case) then maybe we'll have him be romanceable. Even then, somewhat lacking. Maybe we shouldn't rule Drack out for the moment, especially as you've considered Nakmor. It's a little unusual in my opinion to have so many of the romanceable women be companions and not have the same be the case for the men.

To be honest, I actually don't think Nakmor will be an option, but I just lumped her with the others since they all became known together and, outside of Sloane, nothing else is really known of them. I just don't see them doing a krogan romance. Even a fling.
But I do agree that we are severely lacking in male options here. It's not totally surprising. This is ME, after all, and the first series pretty heavily skewed for romanceable females. But I was hoping it would be a little more balanced. I agree that we'll have to see what the Andromedan squaddie looks like. Likely, it will be a "he" and he'll be an option as well. Unless he's a big stupid jellyfish type of alien, of course.

I just hope the romances are a lot more nuanced and actually play into the story - or have their own story ark - in some way... they should feel more, dunno, natural, not narrowed down to one "goal" (the sex) but maybe be more ongoing. BioWare has been much to formulaic with their romances in the past. Maybe show the (non physical ) challenges a human/Turian relationship might face, stuff like that. If they accomplish that, I would be ok with, say, three main options of each sex, alien or otherwise.

To tell you the true I just want a romance for FemRyder that is nothing like Sera, that was a huge disappointment. Also I really hope the lesbian, bi whatever are written by a woman or someone who knows what they are doing. Every time it is a male writer it goes from juvenile to awful really quickly.

There was already a romance unlike Sera in DAI (Josephine), so I don't see why there shouldn't be one different from her in MEA. Considering there'll be more options in Andromeda then before, I doubt all the lesbian/bisexual options will be written by female writers.

On the lack of male LI's: Well, since two thirds of main stream AAA gamers are still men, it's hardly a surprise companies will put more effort in concentrating on straight male protagonists. In fact, BioWare are one of the few companies that even bother trying to please multiple demographics, with mediocre success, I might add. Write good stories and characters, that's much more important then "checking boxes"...

Though as I said before on this topic, DAI was a result of the initial budget not allowing them to make more romances, that's why they went for the 2/2/2 approach. This if proven when they had more time and budget and wrote two romances for straight women with racial gating.

Just saw this, I am going to be very happy if it is true. Pre-order confirm. I said that in the twitter topic, but I feel it should be here too. So they went back to player-sexuality? Imo I don't care at this point. I'd probably argue that it's unrealistic and whatnot few years ago, but considering how important characters and relationships are in Bioware's games these days and how slowly they're pushing games out (and how few RPGs in general come out these days, especially with fleshed out romances) I think it's for the best to allow everyone experience the character they like the most in the way they want (meaning as male or female). I'd just hate if there are no differences at all in dialogues/scenes depending on your MC's gender.

The individual crew members will have predetermined sexual orientations, though. gamerant.com/mass-effect-andromeda-romance-changes/I think the crux here is the definition of the world: romance.

^Wait, WAT....
This sounds too good to be true. Was this confirmed?
Edit: I read the article, so false alarm.
It concerns me when they say "only have certain sexual preferrences if it's a part of who they are."
This smacks of the DA:I devs regarding the sexualities of the companions "fitting the character." Which reads to me as 'it doesn't make sense' for character X to be gay/straight/bisexual. And that is really annoying to me, particularly regarding gay characters because it feeds into stereotypes. I had a pretty big thread on old BSN hoping for a gay or bisexual knight in shining armor type companion for the next Dragon Age game, since all companions fitting that archetype have always been straight. So this concerns me.
Hopefully I'm just reading too much into that line.

Wow. Interesting. I'm definitely not putting stock into that until we get a dev confirmation, but to be honest, I wouldn't be surprised if they went this way. It wouldn't be out of the realm of possibility given that it just happened in Fallout 4 as well.

Nothing new for IGN's "journalists"... but yea, it sounds to me that the relationships with the whole crew are much more interwoven, which could make it much more interesting then the occasional cat fight between two potential LI's. A whole crew of bi/pansexuals, however would be rather hard to believe/write convincingly...

Here are my predictions:
Cora - 100% certain she is romanceable. I get Ashley vibe from her. Liam - 100% certain he is romanceable. New Kaidan? Pick for femRyder for sure, but maleRyder? That I don't care about:) Vetra - I agree, that Bioware would really pull out a nasty move, if they introduced us a female turian squadmate and made her totally non-romanceable. I'm 100% certain she is meant for manRyder romance, but I don't know, if she will also have flexibility for femRyder. Drack - He seems to be "Pussy her right in the ****" kinda guy, but that would be just... hazardous for femRyders health:) Medical Bay would have a hell'of'a'lot of work to put her pack into one piece. Dr. Lexi - Totally dunno. Jian - Totally dunno. Unnamed Salarian Pilot - I think he will be the new Joker, more of an alien "bro" you can chatter about the events happening on your journey.

Yeah based on this article it might be the Ign guy misunderstood. Hopefully we'll get a confirmation soon. Agreed. Only one of these is correct: either gamerant OR IGN because their information is directly conflicting. Either all romanceable characters are available to all PCs OR characters have pre-determined sexualities that are "part of who they are" (which I always eyeroll about). Also, from reading that article, my interpretation sounded like it's going to be some sort of invisible relationship gauge where, the more you bond with a character, the stronger your relationship. I would guess that, with a romanceable character, at some point you'd get the trigger to start a romance and, if you choose not to, you'll continue building a platonic relationship/friendship with them. Basically, it's identifying that it won't be like ME2's horrible system where, as soon as you rejected a romance, you lost all ability to converse with the romanceable characters.
