Interesting enough, that this time BSN on same wave as EA focus groups. Quarians lost to krogans once again while drell and geth have it even worse. I guess I know now why the question was "krogans vs quarians" in the first place.

I chose quarians, krogan, and asari. Poor drell and their relatively unexplored backstory.
Unpopular opinions are unpopular.

Why there is no option to Axe humans? They are pretty popular species, right?

A good reason to bring along the Asari is they're one of the sneakiest races, besides the Salarians, making them perfect for recon, negotiating and what not. Long as Ryder watches their back often, the Asari will likely not "back"-stab us Humans too. Well, unless it's from the front while we're watching our back. And if that didn't work there's plan B. As ME lore has taught us, all asari are extremely attractive. Literally everyone in the galaxy wants to jump their bones, so if we bring them the Andromeda natives can just fall in love with them and boom, we win. Sorted. And if the Asari can't "convince" the new races to accept them as their favorite biotic dancers, it might mean the Krogan are the new Asari, who'll charge their way into their hearts. Maybe even literally.

I voted out of personal preference rather than any strategical thinking but here are my choices:
1. Drell. I've never liked their design and I find them a little boring. 2. Asari. Never really liked the Asari either. The only Asari I ever liked was Samara. 3. Geth. I actually like the Geth but if I have to choose a third it would be them.

Axe the hanar, elcor and volus.
Elcor: "With great sighing, the elcore will become extinct."
Hanar: "It seems this one has no future. The work of the Enkindlers was futile."
Volus: "sluurrpp. Double pepperoni. Who's going to pay the bill?" *

Decided to post the 3 species I want gone: 1: Volus....funny for a few moments at a time..thats about it. 2: Hanar...boring as you can get. 3: Batarians..Why? cuz 99% of them are already dead..so might as well end the species.

Really sucked clicking Quarians. For one moment i read "dicking" instead of "clicking" and was ready to say that's exactly the reason we needed them in Andromeda.

No Salarian will ever be Mordin? No turian will ever be Garrus? Ah come on guys, Kirrahe was one awesome Salarian, and Nyreen was pretty damn cool. I wished that Kirrahe would've been our squadmate

I say: Axe the Asari, Geth, and Krogans.
For purely practical concerns:
Krogans: I don't get having the krogans on board. Nothin' but big trouble, and since the genophage cure wasn't likely released before the Ark left, all their problems and clannish orientation is counter-productive, high-maintenance, and we don't need their mercs working against us. If you need to have some really good military protection, humans, turians, and salarians will get the job done. Krogans are one-trick ponies - warfare. There are no scientists, they are not very intelligent, and they don't get along very well with others. Not my choice for a collaborative venture in exploration, or for making a good impression in first-contact scenarios. This trip requires finesse, creativity and adaptability; krogans just don't rate on these scales.
Asari? Just what are they really good for, other than pleuri-sexual procreation practices and self-denial over existential threats? We can easily get along without them. For their biotic abilities? Not a good enough reason, imo, as other races have biotic specialists as well.
Geth? What can they contribute that the other races can't already do? Besides, they will eventually come into conflict with, well, everybody. I doubt the quarian-geth hostilities were settled before the launch date. Self-aware AIs makes for too many cooks in the kitchen. VIs and keepers can be more useful and don't balk at utilitarian jobs (and don't add to the food and water requirements either). There is one very good reason to bring the geth - their computer/software skills, but if they are hacked again, look out.
BTW - Quarians would need to have good immune systems and lose their masks. Salarian and human medical scientists can help them with their immune issues, especially if all other races on-board were screened for health problems and diseases (which will be done anyway). Their resourcefulness is unmatched and absolutely necessary for an intrepid expedition such as this.

Drell and Geth. Quarians were hard, but I'd cut them as well, I like the council species and the krogan too much to let them go.

The Council species would pretty much have to be in it. I really like dishing out backhands and headbutts in multiplayer, and I also found Krogan to be one of the more entertaining "warrior" species in mainstream SF stories. So Quarians, Geth and Drell would get the axe from your list.
I´d rather have them all back, though, plus a bunch of new ones.

Yeah I can't help but come at this from a 'what makes sense' perspective. You can't really get rid of the council races - they're the ones making the damn thing. Quarians and Drell ultimately don't make much sense for the project but then neither do Krogan. Geth sure as balls don't make ANY sense for the council to bring over to another Galaxy. You'd need it to be a very specific set of events in ME3 for that to make any sense. Would rather see all of em in some capacity though. Well, except Geth. Not that i don't like Geth and all that it's just they make so little sense for it that it would be distracting.

It makes so much sense- waiiiit, are you Geth… In all semi-seriousness, the Krogan make sense because they're the toughest of all the species and there might be times when the Initiative will need them for such missions that'll make use of it. I'd say we'd need the Quarians for their tech expertise but, unless countered by something i'm unaware of, humans have them matched. At least in the case of Kasumi Goto.

monk: Yeah, Quarian's in general just have expertise in living on ships for extreme extended periods of time (entire life) instead of having some grounded place. I don't necessarily think that matters though? They sure as balls didn't invent cryostasis (or I some kinda biotic related stasis) to survive hundreds or thousands of years for an absurdly long trip from galaxy to galaxy. I'm actually really curious exactly how this top secret initiative will populate it's launch. I mean it would make sense for there to be a 'little bit of everybody' on the ARK ships them selves but that would still all be secret government appointed people that can't tell anyone about it. Which would definitely mean no Batbrains. Either way they could definitely make a case for everyone for the actual ARK ships as a citadel like location. See a random Hanar or something. We just wont be running into much of any of them outside of that I bet. Probably want to focus on completely new life forms for the new Galaxy we get to interact with and like makes deals n shit with.

LOL Oh man, just some random vague advertisement where people don't know the full story and then, wait what? Cryopods? Other Galaxy? Then again maybe it's not as secret as I thought it was or was semi-not-really lead to believe? Doesn't technically 'have' to be a secret even if that would help explain why it wasn't ever heard of in any of the past games. Just cause Shep and the squad never talked about it doesn't necessarily mean it wasn't more public, the 'reason' behind it could easily be the only real secret I guess. I mean, no one really has to know its cause of giant metal space squid coming to kill everyone.

Well, I wouldn't want to delete any as they all bring something to the setting. However, if forced choosing between just these 7, axing 2 aren't as difficult as the others.
Asari: Generic off coloured spacebabes. A classic but derivative and (IMO) forgettable science fiction trope.
Turians: Generic space militarists. Basically Romulans with a slightly higher costume budget. Sangheili from Halo did this trope better in literally every way.
There's not really anything offensive about them (they aren't the worst species in the setting), I just find them boring and lacking in nuance or dimension compared to some others in the setting.
The others on this list have something novel about them. Salarians lack a sex drive and are matriachial. Quarians have the unique envirosuit based culture and peripateic nomadicism. Geth (in their superior ME2 guise) sort of take a middling approach between tired Pinnochio cliches and killer Cylons (and they along with the quarians have contemporary relevance in questions on AI). Drell have the eidetic memory thing and also a backstory relevant to contemporary issues (resource scarcity). Krogan are too much fun to fight alongside, reference historical issues about the dangers of bestowing advanced technology on primitive cultures, and bring some colorful weapon designs. If I absolutely HAD to order them it'd be quarians>salarians=geth>krogan=drell.
