BansheeOwnage: I'm sure they'll figure out something to increase the mappable powers. If they limit it to 3-4 powers it'll be seriously disappointing. At least this time they have a reason for not wanting us to use powers with the radial menu, even if I don't agree with. DAI having the tactical camera and a focus on pause, while not allowing to use the radial menu to use all powers was more ridicolous.

Salarian pilot?? HELL, YES!!!
This is going to be good. I can already picture this guy's rapid fire voice:
"Not good. Drive core failing... kinetic barriers down too... definitely not good. Would suggest prayer. Or immediate self-termination. Possibly less painful. Salarians short-lived. Not a big loss. Shame about that Asari girl. Could have witnessed twenty generations of my family die horrific deaths... wait, it's back up. Never mind."

I hope our Salarian pilot wears a Tempest cap, and makes jokes about human pilots. And has brittle bones. Oh wait, he's a Salarian so, check.

Could be, but that would mean it's either piloting itself or someone else is taking over (not that either of those would be that odd). I forget, were there other salarians in the trailer there too? Or just one? I see that The Elder King already explained which salarian he meant. Still, to answer your question, there were three salarians in that clip. It looked like they were fleeing toward Tempest. (I know it's going to drive me crazy listening to characters call the ship "The Tempest", as if that's the name emblazoned across her side. Ugh.) It looked like they needed extraction from a hot situation. You'll just have to cut some slack on that. Putting a "the" in front of a ship's name can just be a way of being clear that one is referring to a ship. Case in point is the difference in: 1) The Sarah is coming into port (i.e. a ship named Sarah). vs. 2) Sarah is coming into port (which could refer to my sister Sarah on a ship of another name rather than the ship itself).

This all sounds very cool. I like that the ship is smaller again. I hope they'll give it back that sense of "functionality first" that the SR1 had. The SR2 was great but it felt a bit too much like a pleasure boat at times, with it's lounges and fairly large personal spaces. I also hope they'll not just show a different sky box for planets but also work with lighting. It would be great if the light outside influenced how the ship looks. If you're next to a red dwarf, everything should be tinged in a red gloom. If you are next to an asteroid field, you might see shadows of passing rocks, etc. Just look at those two pictures of the Enterprise D from the Star Trek Next Generation series and the movie: TV-Series: The Generations movie: Goes to show how much you can work with light to make a familiar setting feel very different and fresh. I really hope they went for that. Also, I find the info that they had a prototype model for flying the ship manually very interesting. I agree with their sentiment not to try too much at once (an engine change is more than enough without trying to tag on a new genre in the process) but maybe we'll see some ship flying in future ME games? Single player Star Citizen in the Mass Effect universe, anyone?

It's not like they have limited time or resources.

They already spent 5 on Andromeda. If they are already building test-builds for flying controls, clearly they are considering all their options for the future.

Making two games in one was always a good way to keep developers in shape, only making both parts of gameplay better. Hmmmmm, seeing how ME is an RPG-Shooter hybrid, I'd say it's a matter of them deciding what they want to do with their franchise. Now they apparently took advice with the NFS team to get the driving mechanics right for the Nomad. Does that make it a racing game? No but again, it adds something from another genre (hopefully in high quality). I don't think that having space flight in Mass Effect is a terribly far fetched idea. Of course, it would take considerable effort but that's for them to decide. If they do decide to go for it and if they make the effort to implement something of high quality. I for one am all for it.

I love the design of the Tempest. It reminds me of experimental prototype aircraft while retaining much of old Mass Effect aesthetic.
As for the salarian pilot, I'm looking forward to that, though I wish there was more of a crew in the bridge rather than one character.

Don't see it working to be honest, except maybe as a one off, like when you took control of Joker in ME2. 'Pilot's unconscious and the bridge is cut off! Who will save us now?' 'Never fear, Ryder is here!' Otherwise when would we be piloting? When landing? Exploring systems? Combat? If you're not interested in a flight simulator it could be a real turn-off.

I'm glad we're not flying the ship ourselves. I hope they bring back the "XO Pressly has the deck" message with the seamless transitions Oh god please no! I got so sick of that in ME1 that I started muting the tv every time I boarded! XD I never quite got to the point of muting, but I did start to deliberately mishear it. The first part of that message is now embedded in my brain as "the commanding officer is a whore".

I imagine it they'd go with something like that it would be optional, no? otherwise

At least this time they have a reason for not wanting us to use powers with the radial menu, even if I don't agree with. DAI having the tactical camera and a focus on pause, while not allowing to use the radial menu to use all powers was more ridicolous. Their reason amounts to "we're taking control away from the player so they play in the style we want them to", though, which is not exactly a good reason. There is no downside to letting us use powers on the radial menu as in previous games, and we know the radial menu is still in Though I agree it probably won't be as annoying as DA:I. I love the design of the Tempest. It reminds me of experimental prototype aircraft while retaining much of old Mass Effect aesthetic. As for the salarian pilot, I'm looking forward to that, though I wish there was more of a crew in the bridge rather than one character. I had the same thoughts about the Tempest. I don't quite love it though, just because I can't unsee it's squished-ness I hope there are more important crewmembers, bridge included, than just the pilot, too. It would be pretty awesome if we got an some combination of engineer, doctor, comms, tactical, and XO who were fully fleshed out. I don't think that having space flight in Mass Effect is a terribly far fetched idea. Of course, it would take considerable effort but that's for them to decide. If they do decide to go for it and if they make the effort to implement something of high quality. I for one am all for it. 'Never fear, Ryder is here!' Otherwise when would we be piloting? When landing? Exploring systems? Combat? If you're not interested in a flight simulator it could be a real turn-off. Halo: Reach had a pretty cool space-combat mission, and it was only half of one of its 9 full missions, so putting in the resources to make something like that wouldn't be unprecedented. If they used in for a MP mode, even better return-of-investment. I've always wanted space flight/combat in ME, and thought being able to pilot something in the final battle of ME3 would have been awesome (probably the Normandy as Joker, just like ME2). I also think it would have helped add to the scale of the battle, switching between controlling Shepard on the ground and Joker in orbit. It would have also made the finale longer without padding. I don't think having something like this would be any more of a turn-off than currently having to drive the Mako around is/will be. Incorporating driving into a game doesn't make it a racing game hybrid, just as having a flyable vehicle doesn't make it a flight sim. In fact, I actually like having vehicles in shooters.

The thing it's I hated it not only because of the awfull experience of going up and down (but mostly up) rocky mountains with it. I hated it even when all you had to do was drive it easily through a nice path and shoot some geth here and there I'm not much interested in anything but shooting (with the gun in my hand) and solving the ocasional puzzles, and even those I can live with out (fun the first time but after that, always kind of annoying)
