I voted for Liara and Jacob. hug on Illium Hehe. In the old bioware forum, in one of these topics about hating Liara, this was one of the reasons cited. At the time I never quite understand the problem with this scene. Only then, I just played with malesheps and dated her (I like to see her naked lol). When I started doing different things (femshep, date kaidan, not date anyone, date ash, leave her to root in that mine, treat her bad etc). I began to realize the reason for the hatred. More, it started bothering me too. Even worse, I now hate with passion this scene. Is by far the worst moment of ME2 in my opinion. It seems exaggerated, but the symbolism of this scene is the fact that Bioware loves her beloved Liara and you HAVE TO LOVE TOO is what makes me quite salty just to know that I have to go to Illium. Same thing in 3. What the hell this woman lose in my personal quarters?

Late to the party, but anyhoo... I'll base it off character personality and arcs, because I tend to stick with the same companions 99% of time out of habit, so powers aren't really something I can comment on. Jacob is definitely my least favourite, for reasons that have been mostly covered already. His biggest sin is his attitude towards my FemShep's surrogate baby sister, a.k.a Tali. How very dare he! Outside of that, I just personally feel that the man is about as interesting as watching paint drying on cardboard. And the way FemShep talks to him is just infuriating. "Relaaaax, Jaaaacob..." - argh!! That being said, I did find his loyalty mission interesting. But that was more for the dark and twisty story with his dad and the survivors and less about Jacob himself - in fact, he annoyed me for most of it, lol. For the second, I'd have to pick Morinth I guess. Because psycho. Although, I did feel a twinge of sadness for her. I think she was pretty well done, actually. But yeah, out of the whole gang it would have to be her. I all the others - except Captain Boring.

Jacob and Liara probably.
Jacob mostly because he's just not interesting, and his character being there at all, feels forced. He's the only dark skinned character in the game. Which on itself is bad enough, how about more diversity? It feels like they wanted to have a character of color there, but didn't know what to do with it. His dialogue isn't interesting and so isn't his back story. If it weren't for Jacob though, Kaidan would have been a close second. They could have been brothers in the boring department.
Although I like Liara as a character, she feels way too forced as a romance or key character. Bioware really wanted to sell the alien romance when they made her. Liara is basically: 'I'm a blue alien, I have a big rack, why don't you wub me Shepard?' and 'Shepard, I'm back in ME2, will you wub me now, I have a dlc'.

She went from being a high school girl in ME1 to a super spy in ME2. It was bizarre. However, I felt that she always cared a lot about Shepard. In fact, I'd say she has always loved him (or her) but can't fully express that love unless romanced. Yes, she screwed up by not telling friends that Shepard was alive, but her actions still did lead to a living Shepard. Now, I don't romance Liara but I don't hate her. However, it really is odd that she is completely and utterly unkillable except in one instance, which is the beam run.

Yes, she screwed up by not telling friends that Shepard was alive, but her actions still did lead to a living Shepard. Its odd that she says friend when Shepard tells her he/she wants to throw her back in the volcano. If someone were to say that to me, I would avoid them never wanting to deal them again. She also believes its alright to take Shepard's armor off the body and put it on display like its a trophy. She has head problems. She was never needed to get Shepard's body. Cerberus could do that by themselves. She was put in to do that because....reasons. She also has Shepard's dogtags. If romanced she says she discovered them. Why wouldn't she give them to Shepard's mother? Does she believe she is more important than Mrs. Shepard? Apparently Bioware does. If not romanced, she says Hackett gave them to her. Why 2 different versions? I like to know why Shepard couldn't ask her about all that? Was it because Bioware didn't want to create friction between Shepard and the asari? She shoud have been killed on Thessia. Kai Leng is referred to as an assassin. Let him be one. Kill the asari instead of throwing her across the screen like a sack of potatoes.

Now it's got me thinking. BioWare clearly wanted Liara in ME2 but wasn't willing to make her a squadmate. There's only one real reason I can think that they would do this. Making Liara a squadmate means she's susceptible to death on the SM. Clearly, they don't want her dead.

Ok that may have come across as too much focussed on the sexual aspect, didn't mean it that way. The concept of romancing an alien has been a thing in a lot of games and literature, as far as I know, and it felt like they were pushing for that in ME as well. Just the excitement of interacting with an alien and having a relationship with it, like that's the way to go if you make a sci fi game. Liara is nice and lovely, yes, but she is clingy as well, she's very understanding from the get go (a female version of Garrus almost), she also can't die afaik (maybe she can, but you really have to try), she almost immediately becomes a romance option once you get her in ME1. There's just a lot of pressure liking the alien option. To be fair, I never romanced her, but I've read stories about 'falling in love' inadvertently through dialogue options. Anyway, don't want to make this a Liara topic, I'm going by what I've seen from her. She's nice, but she feels way too forced to me.

Liara and Aria.
I cannot stand Liara and Aria is just annoying as hell.
I'm kind of shocked Liara is in second. I thought she was loved way more than hated.

I usually see people dump all over Jacob, Kaidan, Ashley, and James. I actually like all of them way more than Liara. I usually also see Liara winning out on best romance polls as well. Tali is also another one who is also widely loved as well.

So; nearing the end of my first playthrough of all 3 of the MET in a straight line; I like Jacob a lot less than I used to. I still like him in ME2, but in ME3 he's such a clipped, closed-off jerk... I don't understand it. I get personality-wise he's not the bubbliest or most talkative, but in contrast to everyone else he's feels like he's deliberately keeping my MShep at arm's length. Am I alone in sensing his comments seem geared towards getting under your skin when you're trying to be nice? I really wanted to yell at him in Huerta Hospital after I saved him AND his babymomma. Maybe next playthrough I won't bother making sure he's loyal in ME2 and let him die. >.>
Updated to add #2 least favorite, which is harder because no one else soured on me like Jacob did. I have to tentatively go with Kasumi, though; while her flippant and careless attitude makes sense, her singsongy "Find me later, I might have more to talk about" line when she's out of dialogue grates on me like nails on a chalkboard. Her ME3 revelation of "Haha I reconstructed the data we destroyed because it was dangerous because reasons" was really frustrating, too.

I really want to be contrarian and say someone other than Jacob, but... I can't, really. I don't hate the guy, he's OK, but I just don't feel like there's a whole lot to him. Normally your interactions, loyalty missions etc give you a better understanding of the character, but that never really seemed to happen with Jacob. He was never particularly useful in combat either.
It's hard to really pick anyone else, which is a testament to the writers, I suppose. Jack is a great character but not much cop in combat. Likewise, I think EDI's marvellous, but I'd have been quite happy to leave her as a shipboard character like Cortez or Traynor. I guess they needed someone with tech powers in case Garrus, Tali and Kaidan were all dead though. There's nothing wrong with her as a squadmate really though, she's just late to the party. I like the feel of going into combat with Tali again, like when we took down Sovereign.

But what exactly does Jacob do where he gets under your skin? I just remember a several of his lines in ME3 just being very short or uninteresting. What did he say in the hospital that makes you want to yell at him? I don't really recall anything there either. I can understand people thinking he's extremely boring. But his actions are still commendable and he continues to be a really nice guy into the Citadel DLC. I actually found Kasumi's initial unwillingness to help the war effort to be really annoying personally. Like she doesn't even want to help at all and had to be convinced by Shepard. That and she cannot be romanced AT ALL. Why can't I save myself for her in ME3 Citadel DLC? That comes off as bad writing. Which sadly is something Jacob suffers from as well. Its funny because Kaidan was also unpopular at one point, but they took the time to make him better in ME3. I don't get why Jacob didn't get that treatment.

It wasn't so much the words; but it was the tone of them. They were short, and clipped, and - I felt - pretty damned dismissive. The actual quotes themselves have sort of blurred in my mind (I'm not back there yet in play-through sequence 2) but it was so, so irksome.

Tali is also another one who is also widely loved as well. It's possible that Liara might be one of the most divisive characters in the OT. A common complaint is how her character development didn't make a lick of sense, given her drastic personality jump from ME1 to ME2 and the fact that she becomes the Shadow Broker in two years. (That sounds like something out of a bad fan-fiction) Of course you get some drama with her in ME2 and the DLC as well as ME3, but I honestly felt that these bits were red herrings more than anything. I remember lurking on BSN prime a little bit and someone said this best, that Liara would automatically be a better character if you took the whole redemption arc out of the equation. Though she would still have the issue of being shoved down our throat. I also wasn't fond of the fact that she was the only squadmate to get a cameo in ME:A.

Tough call, I don't like a bunch of them for several reasons:
Let's see, I don't like Ashley, Garrus, Tali, or Liara. I don't like EDI much as a squadmate either. Wrex is good in ME1, ok in ME2, and ME3 overdoes certain bits. Kasumi is one of the least interesting characters in my opinion. In retrospect, Samara is kind of stalwart in a not-so-good way. Then there's Morinth. She's a complete non-entity as her own squadmate.

Wow so much dislike towards Liara...I love it Good job BSN Liara was my least favorite because I found her creeping/crushing on Shep annoying! I told her I'm not interested in her yet she was still trying to get into my panties throughout the Trilogy. Sorry Liara, but no means NO! Plus she was your stereotypical Hollywood girl-next-door romance. Pretty boring imo And I Can't really pick a second character lol

She shoud have been killed on Thessia. Kai Leng is referred to as an assassin. Let him be one. Kill the asari instead of throwing her across the screen like a sack of potatoes. But that would hurt the feelings of whoever the fuck at Bioware made Liara their blue waifu.

I really found her to be quite shallow. (Why can't I romance Shiala goddammit!)
