And yet you quote me. Fine, whatever. Let me know when you want to have an actual argument again. My bottom line here is that I don't desire to have any arguments with anyone here... can't we just agree to disagree and get along, please?

Here's another - Kaidan from ME1... "Big place." (... and on this one, Ashley seems to agree because she follows it up with "That your professional opinion, sir?") I'm positive Kaidan revisits that comment in ME3, maybe if he goes to Cronos Station to the room holding the human Reaper. A lot of times I felt like ME3 made fun of what they must have realized were silly things in the previous games. More like fans complained and BioWare decided to go "oh yeah... we totally thought that was strange too aheheh...heheh...heh " I also thought the line about Shepard thinking he's a VI and sounds totally sad about it was lame. I mean... that's not been a thing. If that was supposed to have been a thing then it's too late to address it at the end of a plot that hasn't at all been about Shepard being a clone. We have Citadel DLC for that! Speaking of which. Miranda: "By the way, how do I know you're not your clone?" Shepard: "I dunno... you just do." Also Hackett: "Aria T'Loak... there's someone I never thought we'd be in bed with!" I swear one of the writers on ME3 was just sexually fixated on her character.

So, what's so bad about the "Big place!" line exactly? I never minded it. They walk out, see the wards for the first time and Kaidan goes "WOW!!!" I mean, it's understandable, I would probably have said something similar if I were there for real. I rather thought Ashley was the snarky one, going all "professional opinion" on him.

"You can't help me."
"Ashley/Kaidan need medical attention."
" It must be the cipher you got back on Feros". Why I posted that line is because she says it even though Javik is the one who activates the item. I get that she says it if any of the other squadmates are there, but with Javik.......

I actually loved it about Kaidan that he could be awed by stuff. He wasn't jaded and didn't have to pretend to be "too tough to notice". Then again, he's one of my favorite characters in the entire trilogy.

ETA: I can also explain it a little bit (please take this in good humor). It ties into the Canadian "farm boy" stereotype... ya know, the ones who think Biggar, Saskatchewan is a city and Moose Jaw is a metropolis.

"You can't help me." "Ashley/Kaidan need medical attention." This is particularly bad because of how Liara gestures. What the fuck is she doing? I can see you alright, what, are you about to crawl between my legs or something? Yeah, ppl, can we please stick to DORKY dialogue instead of "lines that are bad because they contradict lore or hurt the story" We're looking for odd turns of phrasing and character expressions gone wrong here.

My friends and I always considered the term to be somewhat endearing... in a humorous sort of way... not necessarily "bad." I like Kaidan too... I grew up with a lot of guys pretty much like him in a lot of ways... and who probably would have said exactly the same thing about the Citadel (or New York) their first visit there.

That might be it. English is my second language and I really couldn't tell ya. Since the OP started out with the Benezia dialogue, I just went with "bad" as definition. But yea, from that perspective, I guess dorky would make sense for Kaidan's comment. It's actually funny because as a biotic who trained under a turian, served on space ships and so on, you'd think he'd be more experienced in these matters than Ash who was just doing duty on farm colonies so far. Maybe he's just the more intelligent one, so he gets what's the size of the place actually means (he does say that "it must be tough just to keep everything running" or something like that in that scene as well). Ash wouldn't even think of all the complexities this place implies, so she'd never be as impressed. But I guess that's a topic for another thread.

Well, to me "dorky" means something that comes across as flat or cringy because it's strange or quirky but not in an endearing way more like something that makes you curl your feet in embarassment. But unlike "cringeworthy" dorkey can also be stuff that's simply funny because it's so embarassingly conveyed. I feel like Dorky is a less mean version of "cringe" and I used that term for this topic so both things can be highlited and give us a reminder of how lolworthy it was. I don't really want it to be a discussion thread though, where we talk about how X or Y didn't make sense in the plot -- only if it is related to justifying why Shepard says a partciular line like the "This isn't strategy or tactics" line. For example, I don't think "I can control the reapers, they are my solution" fits "dorky". That's just "cringe" or "bad writing" because it has more to do with the plot than how the line is conveyed. Next up from me is: Tali: (suggestive tone)"I miss the Normandy." Shepard: "Maybe you can stay and complain it's too quiet so we can find you someplace louder." Me: Not smooth Shepard... not smooth. Next: Shepard: "Just take Cerberus down... please." Yes, Shepard, I really think it's necessary to beg Hackett to do it. What the hell?

Well, this one's from ME3... so it will probably meet with more acceptance as a "dorky" line among the crowd here: "Wars can be won or lost in the editing room, and this war needs to be won." Here's one also though from ME2: "I am Omega!"

Ooh, daring. Related to that there's one that's easy to miss.
"But you need more. Everyone needs more something, and they all come to me!"
Aria in ME2 is like a weird reel of striking catchphrases and "moments". I like her investigative dialogue but the introduction is really tryhard.

Here's one also though from ME2: "I am Omega!" The Omega DLC was worse. "We are Omega" I cringed so hard.

Here's one also though from ME2: "I am Omega!" The Omega DLC was worse. "We are Omega" I cringed so hard. ... and then also "Once again, I am Omega." Really overdone... and who'd want to be the last letter in the Greek alphabet, anyways?

Yeah, those lines fell flat on their faces. We know that was her (strangely early) money-shot in ME2 and that's the first thing we remember her by, but... eh. That was so forced. Considering Neil Pollner probably wrote it, I'm kinda hoping PeeBee will do some kind of imitation in Andromeda that deliberately falls flat because she's just not got the same prescence as Aria.
Also, what's up with Shepard not being able to say "fuck" (or Jack in ME3... another story for later!) when he goes "Word of advice. Don't double-cross Aria."
Yeeaah, doesn't have quite the same ring, does it?

I missed Harbinger's attempts at wooing Shepard in ME3. It's the one that got away :'( I actually like the "I am Omega!" line in ME2, it's just showing just how self-absorbed, egotistical and cocky Aria truly is. My favourite dorky line is "I should go." A line that is fine on a few occasions, but not to end half the conversations in the trilogy

Someone's already said this, but the most hammy line may have just been bad delivery by Mark Meer. Shepard has never yelled with such caring before, and about the shuttle pilot? No offense to him. It makes me cringe every time.

It makes me cringe every time. "Steeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeevvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvveeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!" That one wasn't Mark Meer's fault. There were multiple reactions to Steve's death recorded, but for whatever reason Bioware only used one of them. The Steve shout was written originally as a reaction if Cortez was the LI. If Cortez wasn't the LI, Shepard's reaction was going to be toned back a bit. Also that line by itself was fine if Steve died, even if he wasn't the LI. What made the scene meme-worthy was when Cortez survives, and Shepard follows up that shout with an almost nonchalant "You sure?" after Steve says he is fine. It's the weird shift in tone that makes it stand out. That was also on Bioware and not the actor.
