CoD ain't got nothing on Mass Effect when it comes to having nice dialogue but let's face it, Mass Effect isn't all sunshine and bunnies either all the time. With 60k lines of spoken dialogue per game comes a few lines that are hit-and-miss.
I would go out on a limb and say the prize is taken by the dialogue when Benezia dies especially when Liara is there. I have not seen a less convincing death-scene in a long time not to mention the fact that she calls her daughter "little wing". Ergh!
I'd also hand one out to Darner Vosque going "Mwehehe, I'm gonna have some of dat Aria blue ass!" as if that makes him seem extra dirty.

Agree. Benezia's death scene was reeeaaaallly bad - made worse by bringing the "little wing" bit up again in ME3 when Liara is talking with her father.
I'm pretty sure people with disagree with me... but I find one of the dorkiest lines to be the "How 'bout goodbye" line from ME2 combined with high-rise tower glass so fragile (in that century) that someone can just be rather easily pushed out a window... I thought we solved that issue here on Earth long ago.

The first, and to some extent the second, council hearing, the first conversation with Wrex on the ship, as well as the Benezia part (a bad end to my favourite video game level of all time). And of course the classics: "I WILL DESTROY YOU!", "YOU MUST DIE!" and "ENEMIES EVERYWHERE!" I actually liked the ME2 interrupt lines, despite the fact that they were a bit over-the-top at times. Also, "It's over, pal." "No, now it's fun." TIM's lines in ME3 were pretty bad - especially the part at the end, which was basically ripped off from Saren, except not as well delivered and a bit overdone (no disrespect to Sheen, though, it was more the lines than the delivery).

The entire beginning of ME3. Not only the perennially silly it's not about strategy, it's about survival!, but also the very first thing we hear in the game when Hackett and Anderson talk over some images of Alliance fleets assembling in orbit. When informed of Reaper invasion, Anderson asks: How long do we have? to which Hackett replies: Not long.
Groan.
Can you be any less informative? Is it 15 minutes? Two hours? A couple of days? You know, I'd like to know how much time I got to prepare my forces so some clarity would be appreciated.
Straight out of the Hollywood Important-sounding Gravespeech Handbook.

I've been streaming a complete playthrough for the past two months (still working through 3 right now) and think you guys have hit my top two:
Benezia's death scene was just silly, and not in a good way.
Pretty much anything Jacob says, but especially The priiiiize.

I just always cannot help but imagine Shepard comically kicking the giant Sovereign like he's a broken piece of machinery that she's trying to get working while Sovereign just stares down. That mental image always gets a chuckle out of me.
I always get a kick out of Shepard saying: "This isn't about about strategy or tactics, this is about survival!" It's nonsensical in just about every way. It's like Shepard, a military leader and veteran soldier, dosen't even know what strategy and tactic is. It's so baffling I can't help but be amused.

Do we ever learn what the context was behind "little wing"? During her death scene, I was distracted from the moment of it because I kept pondering just how that nickname could have been decided. I can imagine the context behind nicknames like little star, little bird and so on but little wing? That just leaves me blank.
To be fair, I think the "How 'bout goodbye" line was deliberately meant to invoke the old feeling of action flicks with their one-liners but I don't know that for certain. It's just the line and the act of kicking someone out of an easily-breakable window seems reminiscent of those movies.
It should be noted that I am no builder or architect but I believe I've read about an incident where a man attempted to prove that a large window in a high office building could not break and so he repeatedly threw himself against it. What happened was that the window glass did not break but the window frame gave and so the whole window fell out. It does make a lot of sense that you'd build large windows especially those intended for high buildings to have very durable glass.

Yes, in ME3 if you get Liara to talk with her father (Aethyta) and keep going back several times to listen in on their conversation, Aethyta does provide the context for the "little wing" nickname: I told her "You're treating her like a baby bird, Nezzy, but she's going to raise one hell of a storm with those little wings." ... Still seems a bit lame to me... but that's just my opinion. As for the second, I still think it's a pretty dorky line... and it's a good thing Normandy's windows aren't made of the same sort of glass.

That line was exactly what came to mind when i saw this thread. Other dorky lines from Shep are when he compares the genophage to the first contact war, acts surprised that Asari can reproduce with each other and asks if Tali is royalty.

dorky dialogue? not sure if this is dorky, but whatever
"You're not suppose to call me that anymore James" "I'm not suppose to salute you either"
"maybe a little soft around the edges"
"If I knew that......"
"We were hoping you could tell us"
"How bad is it?"
"I...don't know"
"Commander Shepard's vision. It may have been trigger by the beacon"
the encounter with Benezia was a joke. I couldn't take her seriously with her wearing that silly looking headgear and her line about asari commando's

I heard a pretty good argument recently that the end scene with TIM was just as poorly written as everything else in the ending but people never paid attention to it because it was well designed and I agree with that. Of all the things that didn't go down well in the ending at least having 3-4 filled dialogue wheels and interrupts created an adequate sense of player-importance and a climax for the dialogue system. That said I agree. I always thought TIM was a raving madman and not in a good way, in ME3, in fact this is just one of many reasons why I've complained in the past and recently that ME3 had bad dialogue in general, particularly TIM who used to have smart enough points whenever what he did seemed questionable... until ME3 when you can barely make sense of what he's trying to do. Every dialogue with him can be boiled down to Shepard yelling "YES!" and TIM yelling "NO!" at each other. They disagree about what they should do and that's it. It's one-sided. Nobody has any clue how to destroy or control Reapers yet they keep arguing about whether one way or the other is the right way to go, so it just doesn't work, and even the finale has that problem too. They also made TIM repeat himself like 3 times over in the final conversation with him. "Control of the Reapers and of you if necessary." "Controlling me is a lot different than controlling a Reaper" "Look at the power they wield, look at what they can do!" "...He's wrong don't listen to him" "And what if he's wrong? What if controlling the Reapers IS the answer?" "Maybe you're just being controlled." "No, NO! Listen you two, The Crucible will allow me to control them!" "No we have to destroy them!" "Then I'll have to force you to give me what I want!" I know that's heavily paraphrased but god. We had the exact same conversation as we had on Mars. They revealed it too soon. They know right away that he might be indoctrinated, then on Thessia they just reaffirm the same thing, on Cerberus HQ he literally talks about nothing and in the ending he just repeats the same arguments as he did on Mars and Thessia and Shepard does too until one of them pulls the trigger. It's fucking stupid lol.

Hmmmm, not dorky because it's so intentionally cheesy and one-liner esque. I really felt like Shepard became a die-hard action hero in that scene. To me, Mass Effect 2 seems like it took inspiration from action flicks especially with the plot basically being assembling a team of the best to do the impossible and save mankind. BioWare always used the term "Dirty Dozen" for the ME2 crew and yeah, it seemed they must've used references like Oceans' eleven and Die Hard etc. for why it was so cool and badass, plus Casey always enviosioned the series to be about a protgaonist that was "the Jack Bauer of space" and it also said in a quote from Final Hours that he wanted each mission to feel like an episode of "24", so really, Drew's writing must've done a number on his concept once they started executing on it, and I bet Casey wanted to move more towards the initial vision with ME2. dorky dialogue? not sure if this is dorky, but whatever "You're not suppose to call me that anymore James" "I'm not suppose to salute you either" "maybe a little soft around the edges" "If I knew that......" "We were hoping you could tell us" "How bad is it?" "I...don't know" "Commander Shepard's vision. It may have been trigger by the beacon" the encounter with Benezia was a joke. I couldn't take her seriously with her wearing that silly looking headgear and her line about asari commando's You can definitely tell they were trying something with this scene Also, Anderson isn't very smooth. "It's the Reapers, and we're not ready for them, not by a long shot!" "Tell that to the defense committee" ". . . It was that or let the Reapers through out back door." "I know that, and so does the committee."". . .That, and your good word?" "Yeah, I trust you shepard, and so does the committee."
You also forgot the best part: "Then... how do we stop them?""Stop them? This isn't about strategy or tactics. This is about survival! If any of us should have even a chance against the Reapers we have to stand together!" "That's it, that's out plan?""We fight or we die!"The red'ed word contradicts the argument. Strategy, tactics and survival = fighting and vice versa. If it wasn't about strategy or tactics it would be about fleeing or dying, so Shepard just contradicts himself directly in a single statement. Y'know it's very funny Mac claimed to have written this scene, and i heard someone thought his work on the ending wasn't that good either, it's almost as if he doesn't have his way with semantics, but he definitely still deserved that promotion and to now become the backup Lead Writer on Andromeda again.

You know I still don't have a good answer as to why people think this line is so ridiculous. Ok so Sovereign turns out to be some kind of artificial intelligence. Maybe it's super advanced, maybe not, but what's wrong with trash talking it? How many people on here ignore what the geth are/have achieved and just call them toasters? I also get what they were going for with "this isn't about strategy or tactics". It's not saying those are useless/to be thrown out (though, from a certain point of view, they go on and say that ad nauseum anyway via "the Reapers can't be beaten conventionally"). It's supposed to evoke a more invested reaction. It's like, you can't just sitback and armchair quarterback this war. It's not a chess match, all our lives are on the line. It's supposed to be playing to the idea of the aloof detached general just moving pieces on the board and shooting that notion down. At least that's how I interpreted it. Same with "we fight or we die". After years of everyone dragging their feet and going "ah yes, Reapers", I'd be more than a little pissed at further shirking of duty too. "Citadel? The fight's here!" on the other hand has zero excuse.
