I can't believe that there's no separate thread for Hawke, the most important character of them all! Correct me if I'm wrong or if this topic is somehow weird. Sure, the whole game is about Hawke and most conversations revolve around them, but I definitely think that he/she deserves a topic of their own where we Hawke fans can indulge in unabashed Hawke-centered revelry. I've expressed my deep love for Hawke in many discussions here, and I won't go into all the reasons why he/she is my favourite DA character, or indeed, perhaps even my favourite character in any game. I think what makes Hawke so memorable and relatable as a PC is that while the player can affect their personality a lot, there are some fixed traits which are more or less constant despite the interpretation of the player. These include their love for family, their perseverance in the face of overwhelming opposition and so on. Personally, I find those two above-mentioned traits to be crucial. The family plot is extremely innovative in a fantasy RPG setting, and I've talked about how it makes the struggle seem more worthwhile. It's like playing some sort of family drama. About Hawke's perseverance: I think it is somewhat empowering to reflect on the effort Hawke puts in, even though they cannot possibly achieve the ideal outcome. I think Hawke's story is like a "realistic" version of the rags to riches tale. A refugee becomes the Champion and possibly even Viscount, but this journey from the bottom to the top does not come without sacrifices and doesn't mean that they are omnipotent and can life happily ever after - there are things bigger than any individual and even Hawke is forced to accept failure in the face of such momentous forces. I know their return in DAI might cause mixed feelings in some, and the Bioware interpretation of Inquisition-era Hawke might differ from the personal interpretations of some. But for me it was very important, perhaps the single most memorable moment in any video game. Especially when, for me, the Hawke of DAI was a perfect reflection of my own DA2 Hawke. She was the same humorous and well-meaning character, but with the burden of responsibility for everyone she cared about and the shadow of all the traumatic events and failures of her past. Seeing her in DAI felt like completion; a worthy conclusion of, if not Hawke's tale, then at least their role in the events of current Thedas. And of course, there are also the fun parts to Hawke: all those immortal quotes and their tendency to make things explode wherever they go. Varric's words in Trespasser summarised it so well: "Weisshaupt has apparently descended into that special kind of mess that only happens when Hawke shows up. My bets are on Hawke walking out of there as the fortress explodes." (Freely recited from memory) Especially the humorous Hawke has some priceless moments in both games. "Could there be one week without a crazy mage? Just one week." " ' I like big ships. I cannot deny it.' Really?" "Are there any good seats left?" "We might have to do this a few more times to find out." Definitely my favourite PC in any RPG I've ever played. How about you? Share your favourite Hawke moment! Feel free to share any funny memes as well. PS. There should have been flirting options with Hawke in DAI, don't you think? Hahaha. Especially if Hawke did not romance anyone in DA2. Maybe not a romance because that would have pushed the boat out too far. Would have been amusing, albeit a bit silly.

Well, I'm trying to find some good Hawke quotes on Tumblr, but instead, my search is filled with funny quotes that Hawke didn't say but definitely could have. This speaks very well for how Hawke was characterized, I think. I love the heck out of Hawke. She/he is my favorite PC thus far.** I want more Hawke! I wish Hawke could have continued on as the protagonist in DAI, but instead we got bland-o Inquisitor. I do end up liking my Inquisitors, but only because I headcanon personality into them and feed off the other characters' reactions to them. Hawke has tons of personality on his/her own. **Although, now I like Shepard almost as much. Please don't hate me. Makes me regret even more that we didn't get to follow Hawke through a second game, honestly.

I love Hawke, she is my favorite protagonist in any computer game so far (well... Malkavian female from vampire The Masquerade; Bloodlines is a very close second, because of the even funnier dialogue options). I say 'she', because I only play female Hawkes, so for me, she is female (I don't want to antagonise the male player, especially Catilina, who makes gorgeous male Hawkes, therefore the explanation). I just love the female voice. The dialogue with Tahrone is very funny: 'Good to know, that you're batshit crazy' or something similar. I would have loved a second game with Hawke

fiannawolf dragontartare : Great pictures There's really something in her sharp features, although I always wonder how that blood stain got there (unless Merrill was responsible). And that fur draped over her back completes the look. Male and female Hawke are the best premade characters for sure. So iconic. I won't kill you dragontartare for liking Shepard, instead just give you that "Solas drinks bad tea" expression I'm that old-fashioned sword and magic fantasy geek so ME was never going to be my cup of tea, but if you give one character three games, no wonder if they start growing on you. I started feeling for Shepard in the end, as well. Just think about DA trilogy with Hawke... fylimar : Gotta concur, Hawke is definitely female for me. I don't think I can ever get over that voice, it's too perfect. That being said, I'll definitely try playing a male Hawke one of these days. And btw, thanks for reminding me about Vampire, should definitely replay that.

And btw, thanks for reminding me about Vampire, should definitely replay that. Yep, Vampire is a must every now and then again. And I do remember having played that one as a guy: a male Nosferatu (and there was a mod that lets you play as Gary Golden - perfect ). And female Hawkes voice is one of my favorites. I like the british female inquisitor voice too, but I wish, my dalish could have had a welsh accent like Merrill and other Dalish dragontartareI like Shephard too, the few things, I have seen of her anyway. I'm in the second half of ME1, but I like her, she has a great voice too (again, only female so far). The only thing, I don't like about games like ME is, that you have to play a soldier, I hate playing soldiers, I'm not the obeying kind, but the rogue one. And that you have to play a human - the other fictional setting, where that was ok, is DA2. To me, Hawke is her own species

I only once played with default Hawke (never with Sheploo, despite that I especially like the way he looks), for a quick Templar-end run – he was diplomatic, and somehow friendly with his stupid templar brother. This is why he siding with Carver (not really with the Templars). I like Garrett Hawke, in fanarts, just as default Shepard. More personal, if I play with customised character, with customized behavior. (And default male!Hawke is too old at the beginning, default Marian Hawke is just nice.) VtM: Bloodlines: Male Malkavian and Brujah – I played with this game a long time ago, but I really liked. ( fylimar Thank you! )

Well in the destiny promo trailer where Hawke was a mage, he appears to be using blood magic in that...so I always assumed that's what it was. Or could be warrior Hawke was a Reaver and using blood magic, or just using their own blood like war paint I guess, or a tattoo... but blood magic always seemed like the most lore friendly explanation. Though I'm sure it's mostly there to just look cool/badass. I personally never use the blood splatter though. But yes, I agee, Hawke is my favorite Bioware protagonist so far! I've played both, but I prefer male Hawke more. Because, Nicholas Boulton.

Unpopular opinion : I find aggro Hawke the best I'm sure, you are not alone. I just don't use si often, because a lot of red answer is rather pro-templar. Sadly. (And many times the purple answer is more provocative and jerk. I like it.) Mostly I mixed the answers, but the diplomatic is the less fun (not always, there are good and funny reactions too.).

Fenris react good to the red and purple answers, Carver rather red and blue (this is why the purple is the better with him). Bethany blue. Varric and Isabela purple, this is clear. Aveline probably blue? Now I plan a red run.

But there are some good moments in the Fade and later with purple. I'm curious to the red answers.

I liked male Hawke, rogue, custom made. The default Hawke appearances are not my cup of tea, but they have the only good hair in the game, unless you go with black to hide the terrible texturing. But it's black anyway in default.
One thing I have noticed was that all companions have either green or brown eyes. Hawke' eyecolors are very limited, without brilliant dark blue and greens. I think I should try blue on my second one just to stand out.
Overall, as much as I tried, I was unable to create a striking fire spirit female Hawke I wanted, but male was better.
The default female voice is the worst part of playing female Hawke for me... along with her robes atm.
In terms of dialogue, male rogue had some cool purple lines. The red direct female is not particularly memorable so far. All the cool actions are relegated to the companions, like intense Fenris. If her personality and actions were more extreme on the red path, I'd liked it more.
I don't really want to, but if I did do a third replay, I'd a sword and Shield Male Hawke with the Green responses, and Merrill to protect and adore.
Giving Hawke a last name, and a family subplot to go with it was a big arm-twisting that did not result in much emotional outcome. The siblings dropped off like flies, the relationships (like all of them in DA2) went barely developed and constrained to three or so dialogues, and the whole cast save for Aveline blissfully averted their eyes as Leandra died mutilated in Hawke's arms. That's after Hawke was jumping out of his skin to deal with their issues.... the subplot with his cousin was even less interesting. Pointless forcing of the racial and familial restrictions on the player for the sake of nothing much.
Overall, Hawke is more interesting than the Warden, though most of the Wardens win in their race-specific Intro Chapter, but imo cannot hold a candle to magnificent Shepard. The DA2 is just too small, and has too few choices and implications for a full personality to blossom, like Shepard does in MET. And, Shepard wins the ultimate Mary Sue, every person's Mary Sue, plus it is awsome independent of which gender you play, with both voice actors being brilliant. The animations and cutscenes for the protagonist are short and non-memorable in the first two Da games, and the Female VA is just... way too high pitched and has too strong of a British accent to appeal to me.
Overall, DA2 is way more limited of a game, so MET is a great canvas for Shepard, and DA2 does the disservice to Hawke. In MEt, I'd absolutely put Shepard as the most interesting character of the game, while in DA2 this honour goes to a companion as in all other games.

What I really liked about female Hawke was her high-pitched voice! It was nothing like what you'd expect on a protagonist like Hawke. The pitch thing is objective, sure, you either like it or not, but I can't believe that you think her accent is too British. The English whiff is there, sure, but it's really subtle and without any of the typical excesses of common English accents. That very restrained and almost unplaceable accent is just great. The female Shepard, on the other hand, has that boring and predictable soldier voice which is so boring Too deep, sounds too "credible". I like it when Hawke at times sounds like a young girl, a nice contrast to all the stuff she is doing. ME and Shepard are not my cup of tea, but Shep is not bad as a character, though, she has some good moments, especially with Doctor Chatwas Sharing the bottle and so on, that was the best.

My Hawke is a male snarky mage Hawke.
Nothing is better than a snarky Hawke when your feeling down - my Warden's make me feel impowered (which is good) but Hawke makes me laugh. Fricken Snarky Hawke gets me every time.

When it comes to comedy, nobody delivers it better than M!Hawke's voice actor.
I particularly love the way he says "Could be better! Could be WORSE..." when Lady Elegant asks how he's doing.
He legitimately sounds like he stopped for a moment to imagine, like "F***, it could be a lot worse."
