I try to use purple and green when talking to companions but it feels good to be mean to people. Plus it is a matter of voice actors for me mhawkes actor sounds better in red and fhawkes actress sounds better in purple imo It depend on the characters: Merrill, as I experienced likes better the diplomatic answers, Anders too, but I like use with him the purple, because this compensate his seriousness and for a while he can forget his worries. Fenris react good to the red and purple answers, Carver rather red and blue (this is why the purple is the better with him). Bethany blue. Varric and Isabela purple, this is clear. Aveline probably blue? Now I plan a red run. It's the opposite for me. FemHawke is bette at sounding icy and dry, while MHawke is better at being funny.

Yes, I agree with you about the M!Hawke, I only once played with Fem!Hawke, not today. Here I spoke about the characters' reaction, if anyone want to follow their tastes for more approval. But these are just tips.

I think Boulton's red Hawke sounds more murderous and scary and Wyatt's red Hawke makes you feel like you're the scum on the bottom of her shoe. And Wyatt's purple Hawke has a droll sense of humor ("I am surrounded by crazy people") while Boulton's purple Hawke is all ham and cheese ("I am a crazy person"). They're both pretty great in their own way. Also Hawke was my favorite DA protag, fight me.

Here, have some Hawke for your workday: "I don't think 'sense' is really my strong suit." "I have an excellent sense of dramatic timing. And good hair." Hawke: "You don't want me as sour and dour as you. You need a counterpoint." Aveline: "I don't think I've asked to be the butt of your jokes." Hawke: "...Donnic." (when Varric comments on your LI) "In all the time that you've known me, have I ever given you the impression that I was turned off by crazy?" "Gamlen can't say 'good morning' without lying twice." "What would I do without my favourite dwarf? I'd cry myself to sleep." "First he went after the Maker in His house, then me in mine. I'm honored!" "If this is the afterlife, the Chantry owes me an apology. This looks nothing like the Maker's bosom." Magistrate Vanard: "I was looking for someone with your... special talents." Hawke: "I'm guessing you don't mean my ability to juggle small rodents while humming Orlesian ballads." Magistrate Vanard: "If that is your greatest skill, then I have been misinformed. I need somebody with muscle, not... whatever you were just describing." "What I know is that I don't like being cornered, and I can fight harder scared than they can angry. We're getting out, and I'm buying when we do." And the one that sums up DA2: "Might as well end as tense as it started."

Some more Hawke being silly and/or a troll;
Tallis: Champion of Kirkwall? Fancy title. Hawke: The "Only One in Kirkwall not Completely Insane" was considered. Tallis: So do you get a stipend? They let you rule the city? Hawke: They gave me a medal. It's shiny.
Jethann: Back again, sure you're not interested in my many, many services. Hawke: I have coin in my purse and time to spare, why not? Bethany: Maker's breath! Can't you do this when I'm not around? Hawke: Fine, I'll do this some other day. Bethany: It's too late. The images are in my head and they will never, ever go away.
or
Hawke: Run along and play, Bethany. Bethany: This is not why we came to Kirkwall!

My favorite Hawke is the clever/joking one. Sarcastic is a very unidimensional description since usually Hawke uses her/his lines to put others off guard, so s/he could learn more about them. I prefer Flemeth`s description of clever to purple Hawke. The purple Hawke is constant fun once you have achieved her/his personality trait. Even outside dialogues or cutscenes. Like this comment from Danzig`s lair, after the slaver is killed and Hawke has found the map to Feynriel on his body:
"Looks like they took him to some bolt hole in the Wounded Coast. I wonder if that`s near the Injured Cliffs? Or the Limping Hills? Massive-Head-Trauma Bay? No? Just me? Forget I said anything."

Yeah in fact I'm having a hard time playing anything else than the purple Hawke because that is just so funny! Red Hawke sounds great, especially with female Hawke voice, but I feel that it lacks the entertainment value of the purple Hawke. So although I planned on a red run last time, I always ended up with purple, because it's simply the best. Definitely canon for me. Although the red Hawke also has some great lines: Hawke: If I catch Sandal going through my personal belongings one more time... (Sounds like she is going to disembowel Sandal in the event) Isabela: Speaking of playing, why don't we go off and have a little bit of... girly fun? Hawke: You think I'm girly? (Red Hawke) Hawke: Like what, shopping? (Purple Hawke)

I fell for me it was archetype dependent. My Rogue Hawke went with purple, because he was the Smuggler in SWTOR (but less funny) with Anders to cheer up and to do crazy stuff with. My Mage who was as crazy witch as a Sith Inquisitor went with Red with fenris to balance and ground her some. I hoped for more angry crazy bat delivery there, since the crazy mages are the bread and butter of DA2. Partially why I abandoned that play-through, just not different enough. If I ever played a Warrior, I'd go with "I am a heroic Male Paladin from your every-game" Green choices (with Merrill to exonerate and protect).

If I ever played a Warrior, I'd go with "I am a heroic Male Paladin from your every-game" Green choices (with Merrill to exonerate and protect). I`m not exactly comfortable to play a female protagonist in DA, but I did it once in both DA:O (a Cousland Ferelden queen) and a mage Hawke who used an all-female "The Crazy Quartet" for the most part: Hake (mage), Aveline, Isabela, Merrill. It was really insane with a purple Hawke, especially the comments between the party members... I tried both the blue and red Hawkes, but nothing beats the purple one, especially for a rogue. And I love to play DA2 with a rogue Hawke. It`s the only way for me to make the combat interesting - by keeping the opponents constantly off balance. PS I forgot to mention the best part about The Crazy Quartet: they looked apart and insane all the time. It was enough to park them anywhere for a few seconds to burst out laughing: Aveline serious, somehow always angry, with a military posture; Isabela bored to death; Merrill having always a completely lost look, constantly turning around; and finally a very casual Hawke.

It was really insane with a purple Hawke, especially the comments between the party members... The all-female squad is actually one of my favourites. They have some serious chemistry between them and immortal lines (freely recited from memory): Merrill: Do you fancy Hawke? Aveline: .... Merrill: I certainly do! Merrill: *asks about some inconvenient thing* Aveline: Don't you have something unholy to do? Hawke: Why are they doing this? (During the Qunari crisis) Isabela: About that... We need to talk, Hawke. I might know why. Hawke: ...What have you done now, Isabela? And of course there's the usual bickering between Isabela and Aveline and the highly amusing interaction between Merrill and Isabela; all that begging for dirty stories and so on

Unpopular opinion : I find aggro Hawke the best Ditto. Diplomatic Hawke was a bit boring, but it fit the roleplay best for my mage. I did try out sarcastic Hawke, but it was too goofball at times. Aggressive Hawke seemed to have the better snark overall. Really liked aggressive Hawke with Isabela, for sure.

Red Hawke gets some real zingers in there, for sure. This is one of my favorites: Isabela: Speaking of playing, why don't we go off and have a little bit of... girly fun? Hawke: You think I'm girly? (Red Hawke) She sounds soooo deadpan and unimpressed. And then there's that bit in MotA when red Hawke's admiring the pretty lake: "Oh, look. Something to drown in."

The older I am, the more I can appreciate DA2 and its protagonist, Hawke. I didn't realise what a sad clown sarcastic Hawke can be until my latest playthrough. It surpised me how much I can relate to a protagonist - something like this usually doesn't happen to me, because many heroes are all about: "Oh, stakes are so high. If we fail, the world is doomed!" or "I'm badass and I'm gonna kill you with my pen." On the other hand, Hawke can be easily played as someone who just wants to make some money, be with friends and drink in the local tavern - unfurtunately for him/her, some fucker blows the pub up and people are killing each other because of reasons. Poor, poor Champion. Here. I also like Carver: he is so judgmental (And Hawke is a jerk... just as usually) Right? As far as we know from party banter, he's visiting the Blooming Rose from time to time as well.

Carver: (Scoffs) That's unlikely. She wasn't even working. Isabela: Mm-hmm. Got you. (The next line changes depending on your third party member)Aveline: Carver! Varric: Oh ho! Nicely done. Merrill: I don't get it. (If one of the previous lines didn't trigger, and Hawke has not slept with anyone in the Blooming Rose)Hawke: Carver, what would Mother say? I did not appreciate just how much I was attached to "my" Hawke until the Inquisition presented me with this stranger talking about the stuff I have no idea about. So sad... and he is all alone, while I left him with good friends and a lover... dear me, poor guy.

Yes, that burned-out (hypocrite – blood mage) wo/man, who is Hawke in Inquisition, that disappointing. Probably this is Gamlen's heritage... But s/he have some good/funny moments in the Fade. If you spare him, he'll be happy again (and his LI will join to him): And I really likes this (before I played with Inquisition, I imagined, that exactly what my favorite rebel couple did after they left Kirkwall):

I played around with all three; diplomatic, witty, and aggressive, and I personally found Lady!Hawke was great with all three. I did one run as Guy!Hawke, but I personally really didn't like the voice actor. I liked Lady!Hawke's voice actress, and it makes me sad to see her shafted so much in favour of Male Hawke

Plenty of people prefer her delivery or like them both equally.

ninaskye vertigomez: Don't even get me started on the voice of lady Hawke... I know I'm repeating myself but Jo Wyatt's voice is just too perfect. Her voice has that high-pitched yet smooth texture, and it sounds so breathy, like the voice of a young girl; I love the contrast between her voice and Hawke as a protagonist. Especially if you choose the red options, she sounds like she's going to slowly disfigure you while sipping a glass of wine and eating a sweet pastry. As an afterthought, one of the best banters in the game: Anders: ”I keep thinking I know you from somewhere…” Izzy: “You are Fereldan… Ever visit the Pearl?” Anders: “That is it, I used to really like that girl with the griffin tattoo, what was her name?” Izzy; “The lay Warden?” Anders: “Yes, that is it!” Izzy; “Were you that runaway mage who could do that… electricity thing? That was nice!” Hawke: “Would you two please stop talking… now!” She really sounds like she's going to puke if they don't stop Also, in Act3 when clicking the bookshelf: "101 uses for a phallic tuber... That's 100 too many, Isabela" I've never played a male Hawke because I just fell for the lady Hawke from the get go, but I think I'll try the male Hawke after I've completed my current run. I've heard good things about him so I'm looking forward to it. Maybe after MEA I'll give him a go.
