DR. SUVI ANWARSuvi Anwar is a member of the Nexus’ science team, and holds advanced degrees in astrophysics and molecular biology. In a screening interview, she stated that she was from a “large, rather boisterous family” of five children. Her neuroscientist mother and mathematician father exposed her and her siblings to science from a young age, which sparked a lifelong love of the subject. Suvi declares that there was no hesitation on her part in signing up for the Andromeda Initiative, once she learned of its existence, owing to a desire to see and experience more than one small corner of this vast universe. Suvi Anwar is voiced by Katy Townsend TwitterAnd written by Sheryl Chee TwitterAboard the Tempest--the ship that players will use to travel around Andromeda's Helius Cluster--I encountered one such person: Suvi. She's staring out into the the depths of space and admiring the view. To her, the distant stars and majestic planetary bodies are "a constant reminder of the divine intelligence behind all of creation."
Like Thane, Suvi reconciles two parts of her that, to outsiders, seem contradictory: she's a woman of science, but also of faith. During our conversation she reveals science brings her closer to something greater than herself. She's lived her life having to justify these beliefs and needing to prove that her faith in the divine doesn't diminish her work as a scientist. Yep, he said the space opposite to the pilot is occupied by the science officer. Which means Reyes has another role.

*sighs* the more I hear (or don't hear) about Reyes the less I like him...I wanted him to be the science expert.

I just remember them saying how we have a smaller crew this time because the Tempest is smaller so I'm just guessing based on roles we know will be on a ship. With them showing images of our pilot and doctor in great detail as well as the first look at our science officer in the background, I have a feeling they are going to soon since Bioware has to approve these images being shown.

Hmm, interesting. I was hoping Reyes would be the science officer (like a forensics guy you call on for analyzing unfamiliar compounds at a crime scene), but maybe this person will fill that role instead.

I'm a bit annoyed that nearly everyone in higher position of our team and/or Nexus crew seems to be female. Don't get my wrong, I have nothing against female specialists...but so far we only have the Salarian pilot who's male.

He could literally be an NPC quest giver with less than five minutes screentime for all we know. I think people have gone a bit too far in their speculation about him. True story! There are a few hints here and there that he might be more than an NPC quest giver, but we know very, very little about him in actuality. I'm a bit annoyed that nearly everyone in higher position of our team and/or Nexus crew seems to be female. Don't get my wrong, I have nothing against female specialists...but so far we only have the Salarian pilot who's male. The original Human Pathfinder was male. I wouldn't be surprised if the Salarian and Turian Pathfinders are as well. I bet that the salarian pathfinder is a female. Females hold positions of power in that society and they've stated that all of the species will have both male and female models, so there will definitely be female salarians. I'm betting that the pathfinder for that ship is a female.

It's possible that things will be more lax in Andromeda though, with the societal pressures present in the Milky Way no longer a factor. Salarian females were rare and mostly stayed on their homeworld only because it was what their culture dictated. Much like our female Krogan engineer, female Salarians who wanted more than what the Milky Way offered may have joined the initiative as a means of escaping those pressures.

It's easy to say the same thing about female krogan, but Nakmor demonstrates that things aren't the same in Andromeda.

If that's the case, I hope they brought a lot of females. As I understand it, females are only about 10% of the Salarian population. At least, they are prior to Andromeda. So, if they didn't bring a lot of females and yet let them go and explore, they could find themselves in trouble if too many females are killed.
