So just now, Bioware released the first in their in-depth gameplay video series, focusing on combat and skills. We learned a lot more about the type of weapons we'll be using as well as the various skills that can help us survive. So in this thread, discuss how you will approach combat in your journey to Andromeda.
For me, I've always been more of a "situational" fighter. In the Mass Effect Trilogy, particularly in 3, I've always been a Sentinel, with skills designed to strip through the defenses of all types of enemies. I would basically be running around the battlefield using my powers to strip defenses and gun the enemies with an assault rifle or SMG (something with powerful rapid fire at least), only ducking to cover when my shields get dangerously low.
In Andromeda, I think that's going to be my approach dialed to 11. With my jetpack, I'm going to be hopping around the battlefield with my trusty assault rifle (or maybe a shotgun) using powers designed to strip defenses of the enemy (like Overload). I will also invest in flamethrower and cryo-launcher for up close encounters, tactical cloak to help me escape danger, biotic shield and tech shield for added defenses, as well as basic grenades and flak cannon powers. Melee weapon wise, I'll probably invest in blades with different powers associated to them, or perhaps a hammer for massive damage.
How will you guys play? Are you basing your decision off of gaming experience, or are you going to tailor it to your Ryder's character? Discuss it here.

I'm thinking a biotic infiltrator. For the most part I'll hunker down from a distance and snipe, but if anything gets too close I'll switch to biotics and a sword.

I've always played based on what the class allows. If I'm soldier or Infiltrator I'll be very defensive and if I'm adept or Vanguard or Sentinel I'll be very in-your-face and using abilities as distractions while I shoot the un-affected foes.
Since ME:A allows all styles to be switched around frequently I'll just do whatever I feel like as I play and switch up often, unless one class is so fun I'll stick with that.
In ME3 I sometimes missed being able to just carry all sorts of guns and stick mainly to throwing grenades now and then and ME:A lets me be that gun-nut if I want, so I'll play differently for sure.
One thing that really bums me out is that apparently squad won't have armor that is loot based like Ryder, so that dials down the amount of combat planning you can have. I can't decide Liam has to be a lightweight dude for example. I can only switch up what Ryder will play like.

Doesn't matter since the AI is absolute trash. Just blast everyone while in the open, the game will reward you anyway.

Well after that trailer a few things really caught my eye. Freezing + biotic charge; using pull to suspend an enemy as a shield and then toss him into a group of baddies; the leaping followed by a biotic punch to the ground that throws enemies back (not sure what that's called.) Might combined Freezing with that last one plus pull. If there are cryo-grenades that freezes multiple enemies I might shatter using that pull maneuver. I see all sorts of combo possibilities that has me feeling mighty giddy.

I completely forgot to say it, but I definitely would like to use the assault drones as well. Sure I'll probably have support from my squad, but having additional firepower keep the bad guys off me while I do my thing doesn't hurt!

I always preferred sniping, so using a sniper rifle and tactical clock has been my MO since Mass Effect 2.
Those two combined with combat abilities like sticky grenades and turrets, perfect support id say.

I'll be running the Biotic/Tech Hybrid for sure. Must likely rocking the shotgun and revolver while switching up between the krogan hammer and the dual omniblades. The Helios track weapons will be a must as well. Flamethrower, Overload, cloak, charge, pull/throw, singularity
Oh and drones!

I'll play the good old trusty take all the useful passives and shoot them, and if they still move, shoot them again build. Maybe throw in a turret now and then for even more pew pew and distraction. Not the most flashy thing, but if it gets the job done.. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
It is interesting how many actives in the recent combat video were picked, considering your very limited active skill slots. I bet Bioware devs haxxored in the exp through console to showcase those skills, seems very impractical.

i probably wont be playing the single player, but since we havent received any information about the multiplayer, i cant really comment specifically on how im going to approach that. rest assured that i will be selecting the most overpowered classes and weapon combinations to make the game as easy as possible

Watching the video again, I found a blink and you'll miss it detail. We know know what Reyes meant when he was talking about a Roekarr in the previous gameplay trailer. I think the Roekarr is either a mercenary group or a new alien species! Granted we don't get a detailed look at what it looks like, only the name.

You want a cover shooter like the old games? Yes. Jumping around like a clown looks stupid as hell. You can definitely tell it's more KoA (giving it that plug as usual) or Vanquish esque in its design philosophy. There's bigger emphasis on having a lot of mechanical things going on than it's about specific stats. It can be a bit excessive. Hopefully you can downplay it if you want to. I find the hand-flame thing to be a tad too over the top even for Mass Effect.

I plan on playing a ranged Sentinel. Based on what I saw from the combat trailer and assuming I understood it correctly, here's what I plan. It's subject to change once I learn what all of my options are.
My four favorites will consist of two Sentinel profiles, one that focuses more on biotics and one that focuses more on tech, an Adept profile, and an Engineer profile. The points I put into the combat category will mostly be restricted to weapons and Combat Fitness.
My weapons will be a Remnant assault rifle, a heavy pistol (haven't decided yet whether it will be Remnant or Milky Way), and a sword, all specced for low weight.
My armor will likewise be designed around improving recharge times, and to a lesser extent improving power damage.

Yeah that's what my plan is really for my first run of the game I was going to be a Adept/Infiltrator hybrid. Mostyly Adept just with the ability to cloak and snipe from the Infiltrator I'll likely won' be using blades as I'm not really a melee person in fact I hate that side of combat as I'm useless at it. Any that gets too close to me will get a biotic throw or a Shockwave tossed in their faces to halt their advance. As for weapons I'll likely use the same options as an Infiltrator has pistol/SMG and a Sniper rifle.

Planning 2 different styles for melee, one rogue type with Tactical Cloak and a sword and second kind of a biotic knight, charge, aegis and sword...I just wish our equipped melee weapon was on our hip/back while not using it
