Nah, most of the criticisms I have seen (and not just here) is that she is ugly. The same for Cora, and Cassandra before that. I can't recall any of the male characters being commented upon thussly. I agree that some of the animation looks a bit pants, but then Bioware have always been so. A quick google turns up this for Jayde, and even that has tons of slap etc on it: A far cry form the one people choose to use a comparison - obviously she is still pretty, but at least you can start to see the imperfections that photoshop hasn't removed - imperfections everyone has. Fun fact: Make sure you type in the correct spelling of Jayde. Blimey.Where's the imperfections? I haven't been able to look at her face yet. I think she has a bit weird lips. Maybe that's why Saras are maybe little of sometimes. Other than that Jayde has make up and false eyelashes and Sara don't so her eyes may look different. Edit: I think someone said Sara have to big lips. Look at Jayde: But I like how Sara looks even if animation may be off sometimes. I am going to make my own character just because I like messing with CC.

Yes, I know who they used for the model. What they created looks nothing like whom they based it off of and I don't really care. I was making a general statement about how bioware chose to make her look nothing like the model they chose which is nothing new for them. I know they have have in the past, but I have a feeling those days are gone. Had they made her look just like the model, they would have gotten a large back lash from a certain crowd. They are damned if they do and damned if they don't. They took the PC Safe route. Like I said, I don't really care one way or the other. I do find it funny though how Scott rider looks pretty close to his model. Found the same thing in DAI, so this was no surprise. I'm sure it's complexion thing. It's not because her face features are wrong. It's the make up and maybe animation. Scott has obviously no make up on him. But I wouldn't want Sara to look like her model.

The problem that I have with Sara's face is that is seems to represent the WORST examples of the lackluster facial animations. In some of the videos, Cora & Scott have also had some fugly looking facial animations, but with Sara's already super wide mouth, it makes it seems like she is stuck in a constant state of forced smiling.
As far as her overall looks go, I don't care.

Hey! I like Cass. She was my paramour.
The negativism about Cass may stem from her looks in DA2 vs DA:I. My inclination is to believe that people don't like to see their favourite NPC or protag get a facelift in the next game.
To be fair, DA2's faces were actually really generic and super smooth for the most part. I saw a few NPCs that actually looked very similar to Cassandra, save for the hair.

I think all default females look meh in BioWare games, this is nothing new or any reason to be upset. Customization is key, and I love being able to craft a character look I find interesting or attractive. The only default I have ever used was Dragon Age 2 FemHawke, as she really had a great look. It could be worse....you might be forced to play a disgusting, craggy MAN, with no choice for a female character like that other obscure RPG. What was it called again? ....Oh yeah, Witcher, that was it. *waits for pitchforks and angry mob* The White Wolf sends his regards.

Still missing the point. The model is irrelevant. The terrible, un-lifelike rendering is the issue (for those who find it terrible). No one cares if Sara actually looks like Jayde. They just want her to look human, like Scott, Cora and Liam do. I provided the image of Jayde to shut down the "BioWare doesn't promote unrealistic images of beauty" tripe. Blimey.I don't trawl the interwebs, looking for arguments about Sara Ryder's face, so can't speak to what the d-bags of the wider web are saying. I only come here to discuss BioWare games. There are always going to be fools who rag on this issue. That doesn't change the fact that it's a strawman when legitimate complaints about the in-game model and animation are shouted down by attempts to defend her looks. People who attempt to turn every discussion into a social issue simply stir up more contentions with their attacks, where none previously existed. That's mostly what I'm seeing on the BSN. I'd assumed that the pic people are using as a comparison is her profile pic on one or another social networking service. I believe BioWare used it to announce the model, themselves. If so, they kind of asked for that. Either way, it hardly matters. Sara doesn't look like Jayde. She doesn't look very good at all, more importantly. (At least we have some common ground on the animations, for whatever that matters. ) I'll be using the CC, so ultimately Sara's doughy face doesn't even matter. It's just another embarrassing effort from BioWare, is all; and I'm not generally one to give them a hard time. I find it strange that I typed "Jayde" correctly at least four times, including two instances in the post you quoted, and yet you managed to focus in on the singular instance in which I either mistyped or got autocorrected. Then, you called me a blimey. Charming.American speaking English FAIL above. All is well. Move along.

Gotcha. I was very confused. Sorry for the confusion on my side. Also for what it is worth I don't think Bioware have ever done a good default protag - even Sheploo came across as creepy. Their efforts towards the female character can be described as piss poor at best, but at least they are seemingly trying as bit more. It's progress. I for one use the CC anyway.

I hate it but Male Shepard looked, sounded, and sometimes acted like B rated Porn Star. I enjoyed Mark Meer and Jennifer Hale as well, but I always felt like Shepard had a terrible, one dimensional personality. It's like that one friend in college you never minded coming out until they started to speak....I should go.

I don't understand how bsn gets so offended over people not liking Sara looks whilst tolerating a 250+ page thread where people wax lyrical about beastiality. Wait, what?! What thread are you referring to? Yeah, we all want a piece of that. What?

I personally don't think Sara has looked ugly in any promo material, but goofy? Absolutely. It's the animations, as far as I can tell. Feels a bit... under-prioritized, a Mass Effect female lead tradition.

I can only speak for myself, but the main issue I've had with Sara is that the animations have just put her pretty far into the uncanny valley. They seem to have far more issues than Scott's animations do in the trailers.
I don't really care too much about the default faces since I'll just customize them anyway, but if they fix up the animations on Sara then I'd probably think it the better default face over Scott.
Scott isn't bad but he looks like generic male protagonist #890234, because "white guy with short brown hair and a bit of scruff" is one of the most overused character looks in gaming for male characters.
Sara looked okay in yesterday's combat trailer in the menus, but that's just an idle animation.

Ignoring the kind of people that always find a flaw in a woman's look, that want an airbrushed barbie doll... But Sara does have one problem. It seems she's always slight (serenely) smiling, even in the supposed neutral expression in the skills menu, she's smiling. So, she's smiling while neutral. She's smiling while shooting. She's smiling while grimacing. I don't know wtf happened, if they scan or modeled her this way, but it's ruined every animation I've seen use her so far. After the combat video, I look at her and I'm reminded or L'Inconnue de la Seine and it's creeping me out.

Complaints about Sara in a nutshell"How am I supposed to fap to that?!?" So true. And this has always been kinda off-putting. You want to create a character that sorta represents yourself as a figure in the game universe... and you wanna fap to... yourself? What I have seen is dozens of strawman derails of attempted animation critiques.

Complaints about Sara in a nutshell"How am I supposed to fap to that?!?" That wont stop the internet. Rule 34 knows no bounds. A lot of the complaints are about the fact that the animations just look unsettling which takes you out of the game when you have to see it in every single dialogue scene because it's the character you're playing. Immersion is a pretty big deal to a RPG. If I'm sitting here thinking about how unnatural my character's facial animation looks, then I'm not immersed. BioWare seems to care to the point that they've said they're spending the final month working on polishing the animations we've been complaining about, which is good to hear.
