It's not clear that Mass Effect had and effect on DA:O sales. And if Jade Empire had an effect, it was probably negative.

But they kept the community alive, regardless of whether the fans liked them or disliked them. As long as buzz was generated around Bioware it better than indifference. Preferably, the buzz is good, rather than bad, but even so, while Jade Empire wasn't Bioware's strongest title, it wasn't exactly Sonic and the Dark Brotherhood tier, you know?

According to a Hudson blog post of September, DA4 is going well in pre-production. Here, I'm surmising it's in the design phase.
If actual production (ie: game development) starts in October of this year and we add 18 months of fast development, we arrive somewhere in March 2021. ... earliest. I'm hoping for a two year development cycle which will bring us to an October 2021 launch.

People waited 5 years after GTAV released for Rockstar to release RDR2, and they kept relevancy by updating GTAV; albeit with mixed results. I'm not even trying to compare the caliber of the two studios, but it's that people will flock to your game so long as it has enough promising elements to it. In a climate where there are numerous other WRPG makers out there, and with BioWare's recent games not reaching the high-bar like their previous-gen installments, they need to bring their A-game; and then-some. I don't know what BioWare will do in between DA4's release, outside of updating Anthem and SWTOR, but the studio absolutely needs time to properly flesh out the next DA game. I have no doubt about that. But people barely remember Inquisition today, I don't see them remembering it in 2023-2024, when I expect it to release. And if Bioware is running on the fumes of Anthem and SW:ToR, the latter of which will be nearing 15 years old by then, I have to wish them good luck with that.

According to the Schreier DA article, shortly before Anthem released, DA was rebooted and got a full development term, in order to meet the Live Service quota. Meaning it's going to get a full 4 years, since ~holiday 2018, so we should expect at least a Q1 2023 release. But I don't see that happening. We're still in pre-production and its almost 2020. I'd estimate another 4-6 months in pre-production, 3 years in full production and 3 months in post. The extra 3 months in post is to really polish the shit out of it, if they want to escape all the ill intended memes. Anything less than that, you might as well not show up for the race.

My original prediction was Fall 2021, but I feel like I can probably nudge that over into 2022 now. That said, no date after Fall 2021 would surprise me.

Speaking as a member of that community, I didn't experience it the way you say we did Would you draw parallels of the community then, to the community today? I'm going to have to admit, since I was serving in the army at that time, my interaction with the community at the time wasn't as ... involved. Rather sparse, but I do remember being very demanding of Dragon Age news, myself.

You believe three years development time for this GaaS game? Personally, I hope not. GaaS + MP + 'live-service" model = less content at launch... ergo less dev time, imo.
This reboot is a key word here (imo). So, I'm predicting that Bio will drop the old aRPG style we all love and get the Anthem model. Bio has consistently moved away from aRPGs and more towards MP. Just look at the "devolution" of the combat mechanics . ... pyrotechnics and grind... Anthem as proof.
Hm... I think I will re-install DA:O if only to hear Morrigan's witty and cutting banter. ... ah... poor Alister.
Anyway, three years of actual production would be awesome but a tad too long for my liking.

When will the next game release. 2183. Hmmm. Wrong title. That might be for the next ME. hahaha.
For the next DA game, I like to say late 2020, but it appears that likely won't happen. For now, I'll go with Nov. 2021.

You believe three years development time for this GaaS game? Personally, I hope not. GaaS + MP + 'live-service" model = less content at launch... ergo less dev time, imo. But you'd also have to make some extra room to get a head start on the first batch of new content, in addition to having a full length campaign and some side content, like AC:Odyssey. Otherwise, you end up with the Anthem roadmap and we, wait, hang on, where did it go? It was here a minute ago. Anyway, three years of actual production would be awesome but a tad too long for my liking.
Well, the full development cycle is 4 years and Bioware would be wise to take advantage of every bit of it.

I remember that being an obstacle for you - I assume Bloodlines 2 will be controller-friendly but I haven't paid much attention to its technical development, tbh. I'm waiting to hear what other people think of Greedfall before I give it a go.
