As the original poll is now years out of date, I've moved it to the OP. Hasn't time flown?
Early 2025: Latest I currently imagine the game will release Inb4 GTAVI launching same month. I'll preorder Dreadwolf because its the sequel to my favorite game all time and made by, currently, my favorite game company. The bow or any other bonuses will just be...slight bonuses. I don't believe BioWare to be infallible, but even their duds (I'd include Anthem but not Andromeda in that description) I spent a few hundred hours with, so I feel no concerns at dropping a pre-order for Dreadwolf without reviews.

After BG3, I'm curious if MoCap is now going to have to be the norm if you ever want to compete in the narrative RPG genre.

After BG3, I'm curious if MoCap is now going to have to be the norm if you ever want to compete in the narrative RPG genre. Kind of a nightmare situation to contemplate. And yeah we already have some indication that Dreadwolf is doing mo cap work...but BG could get away with it so easily because, realatively speaking, their voiceless protagonists were a comparative stick to animate. Yet I just don't really see how mo cap work can...well work...in the facial animation sense if you have a character that is supposed to talk and fully emote but also be a custom character on top of it. Probably for the companions just like with BG but I still am really curious to see how BioWare can pull it off.

LOL,
Bio first has to agree on what DA4 is all about. History tells me that managers, directors or what have you, at Bio, have been (and to me) still are indecisive regarding decision making. Add 2023's gaming publishers' "restructuring" to reduce costs and all of this adds to game launch delays. Mind you, these efforts are to appease investors and to me, keep top management exorbitant salaries. The moment game pubs went public, "how to make more money" became king.
My prognostication is a DA4 launch some time near the end of 2024... November. However, Bio said it will give us a 2024 "summer reveal". I interpret this as giving us some news regarding the game state and launch date. Mind, if the studio announces a cancellation, I'd be disappointed and hurt... but... they "hurrahed Anthem 2" for a while then cancelled everything.... so make what you will out of that.
2023 is coming to an end shortly... a year of multiple studio closings by major game publishers. This article outlines that human cost of such closings.

With the recent video talking about how they are going to be giving more information this summer, I don't see it being an early release in 2024, if anything I am now expecting a release between September and December after that announcement because the "holiday season" is probably the biggest time of year to sell games.

2023 is coming to an end shortly... a year of multiple studio closings by major game publishers. This article outlines that human cost of such closings. I think the fallout of Anthem and even the restarting of Dreadwolf is enough to tell me that EA is implemented people at the higher levels of BioWare so the indecision and mismanagement isn't at the higher levels of the company now. My opinion is that Anthem 2.0 was cancelled because they were taking too long and since it was an active game the player base was almost gone. It does show to me that EA wasn't completely disappointed with Anthem because they did give them about a year to try and fix the game, but frankly I am not sure how the core systems could have been improved without making it a new game (I still believe not having scaling group content is asking for failure and what hurt the game a lot). Otherwise if EA was really disappointed with the numbers they wouldn't have green lit the overhaul in the first place. My experience is that the reduction in the game industry goes beyond the game industry and a lot of it can be tied back to COVID and the reaction to it from games being more popular due to people being at home a lot more and looking for something to do. My area where IT hired a lot of people to help people with their issues doing work from home. A year ago a third of the IT staff and that is just less than everyone hired since 2020 was laid off. Doesn't make it seem fair, but it is the consequence for not really seeing the future beyond COVID and the lockdowns and the average person pays the price.
