Got accicted to him, but netflix over here (Germany) only offers from season 5 on. So i only know Matt Smith and Capaldi as The Doctor. I liked both, if i had to make a choice it would clearly be Capaldi. Felt sorry Clara left and i am waiting a) for the new season the older seasons appearing on netflix. I liked the actress well enough for Clara but I feel like they focused a bit too much on her, especially during Capaldi's first season. Still not as bad as Amy during Smith's time, though.

I never really liked Clara. It felt like the show kept telling me how amazing and perfect she is and you should love her, but for me she was just a bland character that changed for whatever the episode required her to be. Moffat for me has always been weak at writing characters and his female characters usually all hold the same basic personality traits and are all pretty similar.
I'm still kinda struggling with Capaldi's doctor. I like him but he still hasn't completely clicked with me. Of course it might be my dislike of Clara that is holding me back from him, so hopefully with a new companion he will finally become The Doctor for me.

I'm a bad person....I was happy when Clara died. Then not happy when she un-died.
Of all the "new" Doctors, David Tennant's my favorite. I eventually warmed up to Matt Smith but I never really liked Amy. Too many episodes/stories about her, just like with Clara.
When does the new season start anyway?

When does the new season start anyway? Clara is slighly better than Amy though... And I happen to like Clara, and than I went full blown dislike when she tricked the Doctor, and went with that lunatic in that Tardis. I will never ever trust that little woman again due to her actions. And otherwise, I do agree with you, although I never really liked Matt Smith. Something felt wrong with him.

The 13th Doctor of the BBC's Doctor Who series is... Jodie Whittaker! She's been in Broadchurch, and a bunch of other TV and films I don't recognize.
What are everyone's thoughts? The Fandom seems pretty split currently...

Ugh...I mean nothing against Jodie (never seen her, could be great like Capaldi was good and Smith was fantastic), and she does look the part...and nothing against making the Doctor a woman, its frankly been coming, but the way they handled some things in Season 10 has left a somewhat bitter taste in my mouth.

(Copy-pasting what I wrote over on the tv thread)
I was a little on the fence about the idea a couple years back, but the idea has definitely grown on me given how I loved Michelle Gomez's portrayal of the Master, who likewise was "traditionally" a male character.
The thing I'm most dreading though is that they're going to be as subtle as a Dalek poetry reading about the Doctor becoming a woman. Like most people, I got really sick and tired of the "Oh my god, the Doctor is OLD now" thing they kept doing in S8, which felt like a huge disservice to Capaldi as an actor. It'd definitely suck if the writers likewise kept reminding us that the Doctor is a woman every five minutes.
Personally if I was writing the show, I'd not even address the elephant in the room at first. I'd have the Doctor look in a mirror, say something along the lines of "Huh?" or "Haven't been blonde in a while"... then immediately move on with what she's doing, because what she looks like shouldn't really matter.
Maybe even make the joke be that the Doctor hasn't even realised she has become a woman for a few episodes. Storywise the Doctor might have had more important things to do in that time than paying attention to something as mundane as her gender. And given some of the eccentricities of past Doctors, it'd be rather in-character for her to have not noticed at first.

Eh, I foresee a rather large shit-storm over this. I have no concern about the Doctor being a woman, although, I will say, fairly or unfairly, I think Mrs. Whittaker is rather young for the part. I didn't think the Doctor would regenerate into a younger woman. I was thinking more... Tilda Swinton, maybe even Olivia Coleman. I have no real problem with it (I've seen Jodie Whittaker in Broadchurch, and that's all I'm really familiar with as far as her work, but she was quite fantastic in it), but I just don't see her as 'The Doctor.' I'm willing to give her a chance, but I do have a measure of cautiousness (again, fair or unfair, you be the judge) about her selection. Of course, the only relevant determinator of her performance will be time. She's only just been announced, after all.

Jodie has been in Attack the Block along with John Boyega who plays Finn in Star Wars. That being said, I'm largely indifferent though I hope they don't make too huge of a deal of her being a woman.

Jodie has been in Attack the Block along with John Boyega who plays Finn in Star Wars. I've never managed to finish watching that film, simply because I couldn't root for anyone (besides her character). I mean, the "heroes" were a bunch of obnoxious chavs who previously attacked and mugged an innocent woman... just because an alien hellhounds forced them to become unlikely allies with each other, doesn't mean we should forget they're not particularly decent people in normal circumstances, right? Bugs me because I really wanted to like that film. A "base under siege", alien invasion set in Britain should totally be my thing.

As far as the Doctor being a woman now I'm not at all bothered by it in this particular context of an established lore of a character that routinely changes into entirely different looking people.
That said, I do see this causing a shitstorm as a result of them making the Doctor a woman, even if we all know it's not going to last beyond 3 or 4 seasons before the Doctor regenerates into another person. The nature of the show is that every few years we get a new person in the role of the Doctor which brings about some changes as to how the Doctor is portrayed(even if they all somewhat follow the baseline set by Tom Baker).
As far as it being Jodie Whittaker, I've not seen her in anything so I have nothing really to say other than I'll have to see how she does as the Doctor.
I'll give her a fair chance though. It took me nearly an entire season to warm up to Capaldi.
I just hope they don't keep pointing out "Hey look we have a female Doctor!", kind of like how Billy didn't have a whole lot to her beyond "Hey look, a black lesbian that makes comments about being black or a lesbian".

Yep! Riri (or aka Iron Heart) is basically female Iron Man. I don't really care that Iron Heart is a black teenage girl, only that she isn't particularly likeable or that well-written. Now Doctor Doom becoming the Infamous Iron Man as he attempts to be "good" is a far more interesting concept.

That is one of the reasons i don't think a female Doctor is going to do well sadly. True, but I still love the Twelfth Doctor even though the writing for most of his tenure kinda sucked. Most of his episodes haven't been that brilliant really and it was obvious they couldn't figure out what to do with his character for most of S8. They clearly intended him to be a "darker" Doctor only to then backpedal away from actually following through with it, leaving the whole "Am I a good man?" subplot not really something the audience was questioning. (Also didn't help that Twelve was lumbered with Clara. Not only was this a companion who didn't gel with Twelve at all, but continuously took focus away from him, had no real characteristics beyond being a bossy egomaniac and kept being brought back, all because Moffat couldn't bear to let go of his creator's pet) I'm a bit concerned about Chris Chibnall now being the showrunner because his work for Doctor Who (or Torchwood) hasn't been particularly sterling and mostly average. Broadchurch also ended up losing momentum in it's second series because it ran into the same problem as Twin Peaks, where they had no idea what to do next after resolving the initial mystery. They only managed to reasonably salvage the plot of Broadchurch in Series 3 and give it a proper ending. Still, bad writing can't be chalked up to the Doctor now being female though, because all Doctors have had some utter clunkers. We can't fault Jodie if the writing isn't up to snuff. Same as it wasn't Colin Baker's fault that the Sixth Doctor wasn't particularly well liked or received during the 80s. The head of the BBC was actively trying to kill the show, his character was often written as an arrogant douche and was forced to wear a technocolour nightmare coat.
