Bio writers are clueless regarding prime authority in a ship. It's the captain, not the pathfinder. Her responsibility, in the immediate aftermath of the collision, is the safety of her ship & crew first and above all else. Once that is taken care of she can permit the pathfinder to do his thing. Also, the captain has control of who accesses the bridge not Alec.
This is my first takeaway impression, after watching the vid.
This is a civilian expedition, not a military one. So chain of command is much different.

Anyone still reading who's conflicted about whether or not to watch it, I wrestled with that question, eventually watched it, and am really happy that I did. It looks great, and really didn't spoil very much at all. I'm more excited now than before.

Good point. Let me edit that! He's not an ass hole he's just the only true N7 special operations soldier in the opening and probably whole game. If I was stuck with a bunch of hippies I'd be pissed too it's like herding cats, no discipline.

Facial animation definitely comes across as more janky than DAI, eye whites are also really white. Otherwise, more or less in line with what I was expecting.

This is a spoiler discussion, no reason to use spoiler tags, so here we go: My opinion.
Pros: - Tom Taylorson is really good. Went better than I expected. - The mystery is good. - The visuals are very nice. Cons: - Dad's an asshole (even when you agree with him!). I already see that he's a different leader than I will be. - Animation is worse than I expected. I'm feeling it's worse than Inquisition. - Autodialogue is back in the same intensity as it was in ME3. ,.-~*´¨¯¨`*·~-.¸-(_MEA_)-,.-~*´¨¯¨`*·~-.¸
Kinda agree with the Alec assessment. Most of the animation is not that bad but the guy walking across the screen starting @ 4:25 reminded me of a distant biped cousin of ours and of Mother Giselle... awful.
The bridge scene was not handled properly. The captain has prime authority, not Alec.

True, they're not game breaking bad, but I expected better from a game that is coming after Inquisition. For me, they are better than Inquisition. I actually thought they are both... they'll be hit and miss all around, I guess. I really liked the dynamic and the details - like the brief eye narrowing by Lexi when she concentrated on the data pad. What is noticeable though is the different afford that went into primary and secondary characters... the captain looked like an animated plastic figure, compared to the others.

Well, I just watched both of the trailers that were released today and two things stood out. Well, three if you really wanna bitch about it, but meh. I can let the third one slide.
The AVC table is just like the Inquisition Perks. Call it something different all you want to, but it's the same damn thing.
SAM says that the energy fields are stopping sensors. At the very end, the captain says that the sensors are bad. Plus, who in the hell runs directly into something like that anyway? "Hey, I've never seen anything like that before!" "Okay men, get ready for ramming speed!" Wait,... What?!
Third, little bit of space magic there in the very beginning of the story, with SAM being put into your body. Plus, he seems to have a sense that time has passed. Remember Javik from ME3? "For us, 50K years have passed, for him it's only been a few moments." One could argue that the difference in cryo tech between ours and the Protheans varied so vastly that one could detect some passage of time or effects from being brought out of cryo.
But without Protheans there, that conversations would just feel forced to have in game.

So about the facial animation... I'd mostly say it looks pretty good? More expressive than previous Bioware games, occasionally a bit goofy. Cora seemed to have this inappropriate smile stuck on her face though, that was odd. edit: The "exploration" justification for people going on this mission convinces me less and less as Bioware try to sell it. Id say they are passable, ive seen a lot worse. Sure theres some uncanny moments and one pretty funny/wtf moment, if its not intentional, but serieosly if this is what the previewers were calling "bad", it really doesnt bother me. Also looks like my theory about the cloud was right, it seems to be changing the planetary environment.

Having asshole family members is a Bioware trademark. I don't see how it's a con. He is driven, and it will provide an Interesting contrast to how i play my Ryder. Still it would be nice if he didn't go all, i am your commanding officer not your dad type thing.

Cons: - Dad's an asshole (even when you agree with him!). How's that a con? Personally looking forward to the Father/Child issues. As I said in another post I'll probably roleplay my character in having a lot of resentment towards Alec, and only coming on this expedition because your twin sibling was going.

My thoughts: Way better video than the Peebee mission. Restored my hype to it's proper place. I had to burst out laughing when Ryder turned and ran away rather than checking on his sister. Scott Ryder sounds really good. Facial animations are better than I expected. Like what I saw of Cora. This video reinforced how pretty the level designs of this game are. Hyperion interior looks awesome. Alan seems like a dick. Tough love dad, huh? Asian faces are way better than their games have been capable of in the past. I want moooooooooore.

I find myself in disagreement with your position. I suggest reading up on the function of a captain of a vessel. Furthermore an expedition of this magnitude, where you can't call home for support, requires strict lines of authority not blurred ones. In this case the Hyperion took damage and the captain must be the one in charge. Alec's responsibility is finding a new home, the captains responsibility is giving Alec the opportunity to do so.
