SJW is a term that is thrown around so much now that it has lost all meaning

I've seen a bunch of complaints about "SJWs" in Mass Effect but not a single cohesive argument explaining why.

I hate the term SJW tbh, it's childish and vague. I've only ever seen it used by ignorant people in a childish manner.

Yes and no, and that's not necessarily a good or a bad thing, for that matter.

Do understand that Bioware is situated in Montreal Canada (right where I live for that matter) and a lot of social issues are at the forefront. When it comes to the lack of female representation in mass media (never mind video games, just consider film, tv, theatre, etc), when it comes to the erasure of non-white characters, when it comes to heteronormalizing a narrative -- yes, these are issues that Bioware addresses as best they can then. And this is not even relatively new! Bioware has provided diversity even from the beginning, a proud characteristic, if I say so myself as a gay, male, poc immigrant living in Canada.

Does Bioware get everything done correctly even to the taste of this so-called SJW? No. Ha, no. People keep complaining about the inclusion of Krem, Dorian, and Sera's gender identities and sexualities -- but Bioware has faced criticism for Cole's romance in Trespasser from the Ace and Aro communities who saw Cole as good representation.

Bioware is doing the best that it can. It is 2017, after all. As all art, video games reflect current sentiments, and our current sentiments lean towards inclusiveness and protection and, even, protest.

Will conservatives be happy? Hell, no. There's too much gay stuff, women stuff, I just want guns and big tits, bla-bla.
Will SJS's be happy? Are they ever happy? There will probably be some complaint about the lack of intersex or non-binary PCs, etc.

TLDR: In a nutshell, it is what it is. It's a Canadian video game company, it will show the temperament of Canadian liberalism.

Yes! Narratives of exploring a universe and kicking the shit out of countless and diverse alien species. Classic SJW.
