A misguided decision.
Mac kept saying it's to play into the theme of "exploration" and "freedom" but all you get is just a lack of choice. If you can choose everything, then reset and choose other stuff and everyone is cut from the same cloth from the outset then all it becomes is a complete lack of choice becuase nothing actually has a consequence. You don't have to live with choosing a specific class and then adapt to it. No, you can always just open the cheat-menu and select a different ability loadout that switches you from Biotic to Tech guy.
And don't get me started on SAM being the catalyst for allowing this to "realistically" happen in the canon. It's a complete mary-sue device. You can do everything, and as I always say with the Mary Sue conundrum: It's more of everything and very little of anything.

Well Linkenski If you read my above text then you will notice that changing it back to "choice" will alianate and make new age gamers angry.. I mean they are the main reason for the change, not exploration or freedom (because not having a choice is the opposite of freedom)

Has the question been asked and/or answered by a dev on whether or not one could just pick one profile and be able to get all the way through the game on the hardest level without having to use skills from other profiles? If you can't, then they simply replaced one limitation for another. If you can, then I'm fine with it.

I like the create-a-class style of it, but I much prefer being locked into a class. Adds more replay value.

I don't like the way it's introduced. Basically, I consider it a bad idea to mix story with the gameplay. Sometimes it might work (like being a Chosen One because of the Green Hand Magic), but...it's ME, ok?
I'm not spoiling any specifics, but I...well, I'd rather have something that makes more sense and does not involve my suspention of disbelief.
Also, starting as a 1-button tech with a gun & enormous CD on my one and only 'overload' reminded me of ME1 (and not in a good sense).
