I think we should avoid asking for what we want as a "fix" for the time being. To me, the focus should be on how this decision affected us, versus telling them, "This is how you should 'fix' the current issue." Offering fixes or solutions for ME:A ultimately diminishes the point we're trying to make. Telling them how the decision itself made posters feel is the important part. I'll try to encourage others to do that, but I can't do it alone. Spread the word for me. Here in a few hours I'm going to be pretty scarce this weekend. I need to spend some time with my family. I promise that I'll be around some to keep an eye on things.  I don't see the point in proceeding without a goal. Do better next time is all we could hope for then. Which would leave everything once more open to random chance of what they think is better. It is at least something to put some thought into. |

I think at this point you guys might have a better thought than I do. All I'm trying to do is give you guys a place to start and somewhere to get your thoughts out there.
I said this in the romance thread, but I wanted to share this with you guys as well.
I figured I'd give you guys a heads up. My husband has taken an extra day off from work and I haven't seen much at all lately due to him working extra hours. I've had bit of a rough time personally and I need to spend time with my family. In about an hour, I'm going to log off for the weekend.
I promise that I will be around some. I'll be here when my husband is asleep and I'll make sure to check in on this thread as well as the two m/m romance concerns threads every now and then. However, I won't be around very much aside from that until Monday. I got intense with someone that I never meant to get that intense with, ended up making a fool out of myself and I feel like a jerk about it as well. When I'm doing that, I know it's time for a bit of a break.

But truly, they can't take any actions until MEA2. So we are kind of at a '' damned if you do, damned if you don't '' stalemate here.
The only thing that can salvage this is DA4 being amazing.

I thought my bipolar ride with marketing would end at launch, but now I feel like there's just no end date in the near future anyway. I can't move on as long as there's still a chance something will be done. I really want to just accept it as a loss and move on, but I don't know how apparently. |

They COULD, but they won't. M/M weren't of any priority when the game was developed, and they won't become priority now. But, I am definitely team #MakeEvfraGayAndRomanceable, not gonna happen though. I get that, I don't want to wait years and years for the ME team to '' get it right '' when it should have been right NOW, not LATER when we don't even know if there is a damn sequel! But.... I just don't see them doing anything about it. |

I don't think that piggybacking on the #MakeJaalBi hashtag is a good idea. On the one hand, it makes it sound like the problem is specifically that we wanted Jaal as an M/M option when the actual problem is not specifically Jaal's orientation but their generally shoddy treatment of M/M romances. On the other hand, it's not very inclusive because not everyone who is going to write a letter and not everyone who has been affected necessarily wants them to make Jaal bi. I highly doubt we will be able to agree on what the best way to "fix" this mess would be, anyway, which we would need to do if we wanted to incorporate it into the hashtag. So yeah, keeping it less specific is the way to go IMO. If you want, you can always just use the general hashtag in conjunction with the #MakeJaalBi one. I'm not sure whether the hashtag absolutely needs to be ME-related (but then I'm not very knowledgeable when it comes to Twitter and using hashtags) but I guess it certainly couldn't hurt. That complicates matters further, of course. Are there any well-known Mass Effect memes/quotes/references that could be modified to reference the M/M issue? Maybe sth to do with leaving Kaidan to die on Virmire? I don't know  . If the hashtag doesn't absolutely have to be ME-related, though, I think #LettersFromGaySpace doesn't sound bad. |

I'm not on board with #MakeJaalBi because first of all, it should be #MakeJaalBiAGAIN(!!!!) and it's just, like you said, not the source of the problem. The source of the problem is the devastatingly shitty approach and handling of m/m romances, which are one, two... none of them squadmates, none of them have softcore space porn, both have a face created in CC, they seemingly don't have as much content as the rest of the romances, the bi option seemed like an afterthought and the f/m romance feels more fluid at times, Gil is not a strong presence in the game at all or in the Tempest (pales in comparison to other characters in every way), has a romance/story that's completely gay soap opera and doesn't feel Mass Effect at all... Gay men also have less options, no aliens, can't roleplay gay Ryder to get the achievement... THOSE are the problems. Not Jaal being straight, even though he SHOULD have been bi. |

I could imagine them to introduce a new character via DLC and that that character turns out to be gay/bi. But it wouldn't solve the overall problem, because I hardly doubt that character will be as relevant as the other characters are outside of his personal questline in the DLC... Of course, it would be better than nothing but the damage is already done and it's very unlikely that they're going to create a new companion with his own content, good kiss and sex animations and a real face model. This won't happen....as sad as it is. : ( Most likely is they'll give Gil a few more scenes...which wouldn't solve the problem either, because he's stil only a NPC and don't have his own face model.

I just wanted to say that to be fair, if you read the tweets in the #makejaalbi hashtag, MANY of them are clarifying that it's not about Jaal-- he's just become sort of the name/face of the problem. But lots of people using that tag are talking about the issues beyond just Jaal -- I think that tag caught on because it was catchy and short and to the point. Anyway, I look at it as more symbolic than literal. The vast majority of discussion happening in that hashtag is intelligent and calm/polite and addressing ALL the things we've talked about here. And it's gotten the attention of a few devs in a decent way (that is, noone is being attacked and the devs noticed) So, don't write off the effort entirely! That said, for the letters, I do think a different hashtag is a good idea because it is a different effort/project (even if the goal of getting the devs to acknowledge us in SOME fashion is the same). Just my thoughts. Also: I feel like these letters should contain whatever we each want to write about (feelings, reactions, suggestions, whatever). The more sincere and real they are, the more likely, I think, that someone will care to read them. So long as we are polite and not demanding, I don't think it can hurt. EDIT: Sleep for me, I'll check in here tomorrow! |

Oh, I didn't mean to imply that people using the hashtag are misunderstanding or misrepresenting the problem. Sorry if it came off that way. I just feel like it can give the impression that the one and only way to deal with the problem is to make Jaal bi (even if people explain that it's not in their tweets, the hashtag could easily plant that seed in dev's heads).
