Despite all my ranting and raving (which i did even tweet out to some of the devs in a polite way of course) I love the story of Andromeda, the ryder family and some of the characters as well. One big complaint from me was the lack of new races though (I know it's just the heleus cluster we're in though) I just figured if we're in a new galaxy, let's not rehash but instead do new things? idk just a nit picky thing for me. All Asari look alike too, this is a problem for me. However, I expected the worse but I find it a good game and I'm about 40+ hours in doing side missions and stuff, there's definitely room to build for the story. I'm just a huge fan of the idea of the initiative, building a new start and stuff plus I'm a space junkie which drew me in to the first ME, exploring planets and what not. And honestly i wanted to hate scott and sara off the bat deep down, I just didn't think they could fill Shepard's shoes but I fell in with Scott

I'm definitely getting in to it. I came back to EOS for some side quests and am having a blast. Originally I intended to stick to the main story, but wanted to knock out some missions, get resources, etc. I really love the different methods of augmentation- I have a sniper rifle which only shoots one bullet before reload, but it's a heat seaker! So I jump up with jet pack, fire, and drop down. It's a blast!
A lot of the writing is cringe worthy- most of the commentary from characters reminds me of a cheesy netflix cartoon. Bioware really needs to work on this- it's very distracting. Also have to agree, the lack of race diversity is dissapointing. A new galaxy and... everyone looks humanoid. In fact, I see so many similarities to Protheans in the new alien race- can't remember what they are called now. But Biowares lack of imagination is disturbing. Couldn't throw in something like with a third eye? Eight arms? Cat like creatures? Anything?
Still, Combat is really pulling me in. The wide variety of guns and augmentations has me hooked now that I'm getting the hang of crafting!

I'm still quite early in the story (just recruited Jaal) but it certainly gets more fun the more you play I just learnt how to respec and do profile switching so now my character is an Adept and a Vanguard, it's a lot more fun to be able to alter my play style depending on the situation. The side content on eos get's better once you activate the vault, leave and then come back so I am doing that atm. Then i'll go help Jall.

the lack of race diversity is dissapointing. A new galaxy and... everyone looks humanoid. Not sure what the galaxy has to do with it when evolution is locally bound lol If you didn't have a problem with the Milky Way variation then this shouldn't be any different. It's also a matter of not having to develop different systems to accommodate them.

I'd just like to start off by thanking you the time, thought and effort you put into that reply. Likewise, thanks very much for the reply! I'm having issues with quoting (new to the forum), so I apologize if I make any major formatting mistakes. I completely agree. I am really glad that games are being (generally) scored a bit more harshly in recent years, as scores really were getting to the point where anything under 8/10 was considered unplayable, and nearly every AAA title was getting 9s and 10s. It made it impossible to discern which games were actually worthy of their superb scores, and which ones were getting great scores just because of the reputation of their publisher or title. Lately, I feel a little more able to trust reviews compared to a few years ago. I also agree that 5 really should be considered average. Right now that's what the score means in theory, but in practice, it means "awful" and 7 is considered about average. Still, it's a bit of an improvement over the early 2010s when it seemed like 8-8.5 was the bare minimum standard and the cut-off for a decent game. I think that you're absolutely correct on this. Unfortunately. I think sometimes this can be mitigated in individual reviews by giving the numerical score at the end if it's a video, but in print media and sites like Metacritic, the number is front and center. It effectively acts as a gatekeeper as to whether or not someone will even bother reading the review, like you said. It's convenient to have sites like that if you want a quick overview of games you may want to consider, but it can also keep you from finding games you may actually really enjoy if scores are too low. All right! This sounds fun. I have to disclose that I've only played the 10 hour trial of MEA so far, as I didn't enjoy it quite enough to buy it in its current state. I'm waiting for a couple of patches to come out before I buy. That said, here're my opinions: Graphics: 6. I think that the planets and scenic graphics are very good - an 8. However, the character animations are below what my current standard is for games and the CC is horribly limited when put up against other open world RPGs and past ME games. So, character animations and CC gets a 4. If you average those two out, we get a 6. Audio: 6. This is tricky. If we only consider the soundtrack, I would give it a good score of 7. It's fine and fitting for the game, but lacks outstanding pieces and isn't all that prominent in the game. However, if we consider the voice acting as well, it gets trickier. Some characters are really excellent, but some are really not good due to slightly off-kilter timing. I disliked some of the voice acting enough to bring down the score a point on this one. Gameplay: 8. I think it's better than any of the recent Bioware games, and quite fun. It isn't innovative, as you said, and lacking in comparison to games from other genres, but for an open-world RPG, it's significantly above average - I'd consider it great for the genre. Setting: 7. I feel a little uneasy giving a score on this point, since I have only experienced a small part of the game. That said, it doesn't seem to be either terrible or fantastic. I really like the ambient dialogue, as you said, and think that the open worlds look quite stunning. I can tell that the devs put a lot of effort into world-building, and I love how big and interesting the world is. That said, there are some things that break the trilogy's lore in noticeable ways, and thus far the Andromeda galaxy just doesn't feel as likeable as the previous games. I have a feeling that later in the game it may be worthy of an 8 as you learn more and start to feel at home in the game, but based only on what I've personally experienced, I'll give it a 7. Value for money: 10. I agree - for the number of hours of gameplay, it's a great value. So if you average out all of the scores, it comes out to a 7.4, which can be rounded up to a 7.5. With some patches to improve the graphics and a few dozen more hours to get to know the universe and characters, I can see myself giving it an 8/10 when I do play the full game. So, really, our scores are very close! I might view the game a little more harshly since I would rate the original trilogy and other RPGs (Skyrim) higher than you would, but in context of our individual game preferences and standards, both our scores make complete sense. So, this is why I can understand game scores anywhere between 5-9. Everyone has different standards and opinions so a wide range of scores are justifiable. But anything less than a 5 would be really hard for me to understand. At that point, it's just score brigading from people who are angry at Bioware and are unfairly trying to tank user scores as a way to express their own frustration and disappointment. It's really a shame that some gamers choose to try to mislead other buyers due to their own personal issues. Save

Loving it too. Never understood what people mean by only two new alien species though. There are way more than two alien species with two of them being humanoid. The OT had multiple clusters and each humanoid race was from very different parts of the galaxy. Having two new humanoid races in one cluster is more than any other case in the OT.

I have a confession to make....I.....like the Asaru....the one that I said wasn't a really real Asari and labelled a monkey man from Andromeda and.....once called Pocahanto the last male Asari.
I might also have said something about stucking its head in the wrong places to get that weird face paint aroud its eyes and that its name was a rip off from adventure time.
I take it all back.
Shes delightlful.
Not commando delightful.
But, yeah.

Yes, it does get better, I am level 24 at 36 hrs in. Though I agree that a quick save, mini map and some chains on my Nomad's tires would make my travel's a bit smoother. Going back to the bar to pour a drink in my ear and get my wide eyes ready for my close up with Mr. Demill.

I love this game as well, for the most part.
My only gripe is probably those Remnant decryption puzzles. Sudoku just isn't my thing.
Other then that, I find the idea of colonizing planets to be fascinating. That and I'm a huge explorer junkie. Probably why this game became a hit for me.
